I was sleeved August 12. Sooo sick of Protein shakes, like everyone else. I am getting the protein in every day, though. Being able to eat food really helps so I only have to choke down one Protein Drink a day. Just tried Isopure grape and I think I can get this down. As others have said, like a weird Gatorade BUT it's not a gross imitation of a chocolate milkshake LOL. Tried sashimi for dinner and it was great! Could only get down about 2 oz., but having real food is so nice now, even if it is a tiny amount. My son says I eat like an ant. Teehee. I eat mostly cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, Beans, cheese, and a cup of nonfat milk every couple of days. Gonna try hemp seed protein next. Not doing so well with exercise but hopefully now that I'm feeling better I can get that going. HW 235 Preop 211 SW 206 CW 191

Sorry, I don't think this article is at all medically sound. I wouldn't follow their advice.

My understanding is that indigestible items can sometimes become stuck and block things going down. You can't eat or drink and it requires surgery to remove it. I'm sure some of the vets on here have a more accurate explanation.

Oh, I miss them too. My doc said Tylenol only. The 8 hour Arthritis Tylenol works somewhat, but not as well as Advil.
-
I want a nice cold beer when it's hot out. Really miss that. I tried a tiny sip of my hubby's glass and even that was too much. No beer for me.

Me too, was just exhausted until week three, when it started to improve. I'm still not 100% but at least I can function. Every week is better.
-
Yes! I never connected it with the surgery, but week 2 is when it started.

My dr had cream of wheat for me while still in the hospital. I couldn't eat it, though.

That amount of loss is fine, it could be water loss. First two weeks have pretty high loss.

What are the things you wish you knew before surgery that would have made after surgery easier?
NMJG replied to morphinmom's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I only had heavy duty painkillers the day of surgery and day after. Then I switched to plain Tylenol and I had no constipation issues. In the past I've had that problem from painkillers and it was horrible. Heating pad works wonders for the pain too. -
Hunger + Angry = Hangry!
NMJG replied to IdahoGirl32's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't have hunger per se like I used to, but my body gets hungry, ghrelin or no. I get an animal kind of manic need for nourishment. I will say that it's easily satisfied with a couple bites, and I can't get more than that down without barfing. I've found a cup of milk to work wonders when it hits, and it helps your protein count. -
Who started pureed foods during week 1 or 2?
NMJG replied to LMarie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree. Follow your doctor's orders talk to them and explain your situation. I was allowed purees week 2, but it doesn't help the weakness. You just can't get much down, maybe a few ounces. Try Beneprotein - 3 scoops or 4 can be mixed with 4 oz. of liquid, which is a relatively small amount to choke down. Add flavoring though. -
Did anyone ask for their stomach to take home?

ROTFL. Love this thread -
Cut up a fresh pumpkin in quarters and reserve the seeds. Wrap in plastic wrap and microwave on high for 8-10 minutes until soft. Let it cool and scrape it out of the shell. You can now do several things: Soup, crustless pie, soufflé . Soup: 1 quart vegetable or chicken broth 1tsp dried sage 1/2 onion minced 1 tbl olive oil 1 tsp dried thyme 1 apple, peeled, cored and chopped Pumpkin you just cooked or 1 can unsweetened pumpkin Salt and pepper to taste Sauté the onion until transparent. Add the rest of the ingredients and simmer until the apple is soft. Use a blender or immersion blender to purée the soup. Taste and adjust salt and pepper.

I was sleeved August 12. At 3 weeks I was allowed soft foods, including soft cooked veggies, and I've eaten them with no problem. Seeds and peels were a no no during this period. When I get to 4 weeks the dr said I could try anything, but I'm nervous about seeds and nuts, celery and asparagus - anything fibrous or seedy or hard. I sure don't want a blockage.

Good lord, I had to go back after a week and it almost killed me. However, I was able to get off pain meds after the hospital. Only used Tylenol after that. Good luck with that and remember your body is healing after major surgery. Be kind to it.

Honey, call your dr first thing Monday morning. This sort of thing needs medical attention. Good luck!

Im genuinely struggling, and im surprised I havent gotten a leak yet.
NMJG replied to robocop12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Robo, I'm so proud of you for talking to a therapist. Don't give up on yourself. Get back to basics and stick with the program. I hate the protein shakes, too, but you gotta do it. There is this magical 6 month window after surgery when it is the easiest to lose weight. You can still lose later, but not like you can in the first few months. Don't waste it! 1) Get your protein down first and get enough 2) Get your 8 glasses of water down and don't drink during meals 3) Keep off of carbs and crap - you can do this! 4) Walk a little every day, even 15 minutes. Just get up and move. We are cheering for you. Get back on track, and you'll feel so proud of yourself. Good luck! -
Georgia, that's excellent. Thank you for posting.
