The belly button thing heals up fine. It was bad for me, too, but after a few weeks it will be OK.

Calcium Caseinate (a milk derivative)
NMJG replied to AmyInOrlando's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I'd check with your nut. Mine specifically said protein isolate only because the others won't provide your body with the full amount of protein because of digestibility. -
On holiday in the USA recommend me food products
NMJG replied to lubelu's topic in Food and Nutrition
Mexican food like beans (refried or charro or black beans), shredded chicken dishes, ground meat dishes, chicken fajitas. Just watch the fat content with too much cheese and avoid fried things. -
Who hated protein powder but found a good on?
NMJG replied to Fit2btied's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I liked Premier before surgery but now it makes me nauseous. Mixing it with decaf coffee helps, but it still gives me diarrhea. -
This is indeed a nice website

I told only my husband and two grown sons, who are all supportive. No other family or friends, and I would do it again that way. I told my sister (who lives several states away) that I'm on Weight Watchers. By the time she sees me next year or so, it won't matter how I lost it, and I don't plan to enlighten her. As for the surgery and time off, I have other real intestinal issues that I mention and leave my actual procedure very vague. Works for me. No drama, no explanations, no embarrassment.

What foods/drinks do you crave that surprised you after surgery?

It does get better, really! You've lost a lot for such a short amount of time, congratulations! When you get to more kinds of food, it is a huge help. The first month is the worst, but you'll get through it. Just hang in there

My $0.02: go for it! Think of all the families you will be helping, plus you'll receive a wonderful benefit to help you in your own life. Good luck!

I'm not a vet, but I'm freaked out about it, too. There are some articles on the web that indicate that the amount of fat you are taking in can also affect hair loss. In other words, an extremely low fat diet can cause hair loss. I'm going for low fat, but not extremely low fat (I eat nut butters, pistachios, etc. in moderation several times a week) in hopes that will help (plus they're tasty!) In general, any sort of body stress (like surgery) or significant weight loss can cause hair to fall out, despite all the treatments to save your hair.

what's the little things you've noticed with your weight loss so far!
NMJG replied to sleeveb430's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can wear dresses again. I have legs not tree trunks! -
That's why I decided it was nobody's business except my immediate family (hubby and 2 older kids). I applaud those who have been open, because the c*#p you have to deal with is so obnoxious. People can be so ignorant and hurtful. I'm sure my sister would have been the worst LOL.

5 1/2 weeks Post-Op update and Struggles
NMJG replied to Robert Angel's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm at 5 1/2 weeks too. I've really taken to fish. Tuna salad is so easy and there are Bumble Bee Light Tuna kits at the store that are great and easy to take with you. Be brave and stay away from fast food. It's a downfall for me. Can you get down beef jerky yet? I've tried a little, chewing it really, really well, and it went down fine. Do you like Mexican food? Beans with salsa are great for you (just watch out for the lard-heavy refried beans at restaurants, you can get cans of fat-free refried beans at the store, (or try Ranchero beans at restaurants). Get some shredded low fat Cheddar or Mexican cheese to sprinkle on your beans, add some hot sauce and yum! -
Great job! It's hard to get cut like that, lots of work.

Problems with protein, help?
NMJG replied to Sleepymagi1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A couple of things to keep in mind: First, your tastes could change. I had all my "good" Protein powders picked out presurgery and now can't stand any of them. Second, make sure your protein source is protein isolate because otherwise your body won't absorb all the protein listed on the label. It can be whey isolate, soy isolate, etc. Last, make sure your source is under 200 calories and provides at least 20 grams of protein. The most effective ones are well under 200 and provide 25 - 30 grams or more. Good luck! I hate Protein drinks -
Doesn't it feel wonderful? Congrats to you!

Have you froze a protein shake?
NMJG replied to mlowell's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Gonna try this. Anything to get protein shakes down! -
Who knew you were such a hottie! Great job!

3 wks out and can't down any protein drinks but hungry all the time!
NMJG replied to jordan1079's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What you may be thinking is hunger could well be acid. Many people mistake it and find that omeprozole or other antacid helps tremendously. It gets better! Really! I think all of us went through some sort of period where we despaired and doubted ourselves. The first month is so hard. Have you tried sour things like buttermilk or unsweetened lowfat kiefer? Even plain nonfat milk will help you get protein in. Also, you may be eating too fast and that is causing your discomfort. Soft foods are so easy to take in quickly. I still have a battle every meal to eat tiny bites slowly. Try using a baby spoon and time yourself. Your insides are still swollen and healing now. Good luck!
