lump sensation in my throat
NMJG replied to ElyQuint's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Someone else was posting about similar stuff and I researched a bit and found some very interesting material. So, basically it looks like many of us could be suffering from Laryngopharyngeal reflux, or LPR. Taking Prilosec doesn't help, because the problem is that the little valve between the stomach and esophagus is weakened, so stuff comes back up. It can even go into the voice box and harm your vocal cords. Lowering the acid content of your stomach does nothing to tighten that valve. Hence why many of us have the lump in our throat, coughs, laryngitis, etc. maybe you can ask your ENT about it and see if this is on the right track. The articles below were very interesting. I for one have this lump issue every time I eat. I'm guessing I still eat too fast and too large bites. Maybe a vet who does not have this problem can share with us their eating methods. http://www.gbmc.org/home_voicecenter.cfm?id=1555 http://www.ucdvoice.org/lpr.html -
you can get patches, too. http://www.b12patch.com/. I haven't tried it but maybe others here have.

I've had problems. Was worse the first month, but my voice still isn't what it used to be at 6 weeks. I was thinking it might be carry over from anesthesia, but hey, it might be related to acid reflux, too.

lump sensation in my throat
NMJG replied to ElyQuint's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can really relate to this. 6 weeks out, lump is almost always there, but worse after I eat. I also have bad allergies. Been taking both omeprozol and ranitidine. Will try an allergy pill tonight. Thanks everyone! -
Thanks for posting this. It's so great to see concrete results from "one of our own." An amazing feat and congratulations are well deserved.

I'm a slow loser, too, but it's OK because people don't think I have had surgery, and even better, the slower you lose the less loose skin you will have. I know I'll have bat wings and tummy skin, but hopefully it won't be as bad as it could be. Still, 2 lbs a week is a little depressing

The Beverly Hills Diet, circa 1980's. It was all fruit like watermelon. You were supposed to eat the seeds for protein LOL.

Ready to ransack the closet..
NMJG replied to gomekast's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I emptied a third of my closet last week. It was such fun! -
I have the occasional small glass of wine that takes me an hour to drink or a 1 oz. shot of vodka (which I sip over 1/2 hour). No adverse effects and I haven't gotten tipsy from it. That small amount once a week or so is fine for me and I figure it into my daily calories, too. I'm dying for a cold beer, but even a sip of carbonation makes me ill now. I don't recommend alcohol for everyone.

I count calories, protein, carbs, fat and fiber. Tracking helps immensely to keep me on target.

I know most people or carb crazy but will I ever be able to eat a sandwich again?
NMJG replied to endless80's topic in Food and Nutrition
I await an answer too! My sandwich dreams include cold meatloaf on nutty wholegrain bread or a French Dip mmmmmm Right now (6 weeks out) I can handle 1/2 piece of toast but that's about it, and I usually don't have room for even that after my proteins. -
Size 16 jeans. Can't remember last time I wore them.

Things I will NOT miss about being fat.

Getting my blood pressure taken doesn't hurt any more. -
I have ants in my pants!
NMJG replied to gamergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, I have been struggling getting my prescription meds and vitamins down. I still have high BP so I really need to take my meds daily, although it's gotten much better since losing weight. And what's up with the vitamins? Seems so hard to get them down, yet without them I have definite deficiencies. It isn't like they are even that bad. Just my self destructive behavior -
No weight loss for 3-5months
NMJG replied to Southkrypt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just my $0.02, but you asked for advice to help lose weight. If you want to lose, you can't have a "little treat" every day. It doesn't work that way. At least switch to decaf and a sugar free and fat free creamer. Caffeine stimulates your appetite and dehydrates you. Also, 100 - 200 g of protein is pretty high. It isn't like you are running marathons weekly. I suspect you are way over your calories for weight loss. The best thing you could do is go back to your nutritionist and get back on the wagon with a set number of calories, grams of protein, carbs, and fats and track it. Good luck to you. Remember, the sleeve is a tool. You still need to follow the rules and keep discipline for success. -
No weight loss for 3-5months
NMJG replied to Southkrypt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'd ditch the coffee and creamer. Plus, I'd start logging everything every day. That should shed some light. Good luck! -
Wonderful pic! Congrats!

4 month weigh in - MAJOR SUCCESS
NMJG replied to determinedsleever70's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Man, that is amazing! Congratulations! Makes my 2 lb/week losses look so puny (sniff sniff). You should be so proud of yourself. -
While we can certainly give you advice, it's best if you call your Nut and get it from them. There are some differences between doctors. However, your list doesn't compute LOL, so I'd say roughly, go for 3 meals a day with two snacks, eating about every 3 hours. Wait 1 hour after eating to drink. Sip water all day long except after meals to insure you get your water in. At this point, you are eating so little that you really can't wait 5 hours between meals. That's for further down the road, not week two. You will only be able to get down a couple of ounces at a meal. Take protein drinks for your snacks so you get in your 70 - 80 or so grams (whatever your Nut told you to get in). Good luck.

Mornings and strange symptoms. HELP.
NMJG replied to MissErika's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, go to the doctor, honey. You also might have vitamin deficiencies going on in addition to other viral issues. Good luck. -
Did your tastes change after surgery?
NMJG replied to tigermom12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Very changed! I used to like sweets and now, not so much, even chocolate. I also never liked fish much and now I like it a lot, especially tuna salad, which I never ate before. I lost my interest in coffee. I really like savory and salty things now. Don't even care for wine like I did before. -
I'm in the same boat. I see these folks who are losing 20 lbs a month and I am amazed. I have been losing a steady 2 lbs a week eating less than 800 calories a day plus exercise. But at least I'm losing Let's cheer each other up and celebrate what we have lost instead of mourning what we wish we lost. Before, I couldn't lose even 2 lbs a week, my metabolism was so screwed up from menopause and yoyo weight loss and gain. We will get there, maybe slowly, but still at goal.
