GERD - Indigestion, Reflux, Lumps in Throat/Chest. Exposition of Symptoms and Treatment.
NMJG replied to Madam Reverie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh yes. I'm at 8 weeks. My dr just prescribed Reglan, which I will try this week, and I have a barium swallow scheduled for Tuesday to check for stricture. The lump in the throat is awful and accounts for a lot of nausea and eating unpleasantness. I sleep with 4 pillows to keep the acid down. I take omeprozole and ranitidine daily. -

Heading towards week 3-looking to NOT stall
NMJG replied to ggflores's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Many people stall but not all. I haven't stalled yet at 8 weeks. I have no clue why some do and some don't. However, I only lose 2 lbs a week. Slow and steady. Wish I had pix like that, an excellent motivator. -

Does and one else worry about not waking
NMJG replied to marieelaine's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Never even occurred to me, but I've had several surgeries before. Getting hit by a car is more likely. -

Do I have the right to ask MD.....
NMJG replied to Rainae's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What answer are you expecting to get from him that would make it OK for you to proceed? I suspect that nothing he would say would make you comfortable. If that is so, switch doctors now, unless you just want to punish him by putting him on the spot. I don't approve of drunk driving either, but personally I would never confront my doctor about it. That's just me, though. -

I believe the acid in coffee can be a problem, besides the caffeine causing dehydration and acid. My dr said the caffeine also increases hunger. I think you could plan for that. I have decaf now and then, but I really lost my taste for coffee after the surgery Lots of people drink it, though, so it doesn't kill you.

Nonfat milk always works in a pinch (they never have small containers so I just get a quart). Nonfat cottage cheese if they have it, lowfat if they don't. Packet of nuts, sunflower seeds, beef jerky (look for ones with little or no sugar, local brands seem to have less sugar than the national brands). Some of the mini marts carry Muscle Milk now. Powerade Zero.

It is theoretically reversible. No one has done it yet. It also doesn't remove the portion of your stomach that creates ghrelin (I can never spell that right). So you will continue to have hunger. It is a good option for some people, but none of the options are perfect. You just need to pick the right one for you.

It's your decision. You are the one who has to live with it, not anyone else. Don't feel bad about it. Just commit yoursef to doing the best you can with it and I'm sure you will lose weight just fine. Good luck.
