What is your "(non)guilty pleasure" food?
NMJG replied to endless80's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Starbucks Skinny Mocha decaf and fat free, 110 calories for a Tall. -
I just googled the divorce rate for wls and found many anecdotal articles that the rate is 75%, and 85% for those who were obese prior to marriage. However, although I found these articles I couldn't find the original studies to support them. Remember, the general divorce rate is 50%.

I agree, Ely, you are a really beautiful woman. So nice to hear you got such a nice compliment.

The annoying new habits that came to be with my sleeve...
NMJG replied to LipstickLady's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Lips, thx so much for posting this, a great laugh for the day. My 20 yr old son is my mealtime taskmaster: don't eat too fast! Take smaller bites! You've had enough, you'll get sick! -
My dr said 4months for salad.

Been in a stall for the last 2 weeks (seems longer than that!), but I'm losing inches. Fit into a size Medium top today and I think the size 14 bottoms are right around the corner. Started off 8/12/2013 in a size 18/20. XXL. Just thought I would share for those in stall - yes, you are losing inches even if the darn scale won't move

Even at 9 weeks I can't handle carbonation at all. I desperately wanted to try a tiny taste of beer at a recent festival and thought I was going to puke. No carbonation for Sleevette.

Order some lightly seasoned. I love edamame and salty snacks, looking forward to it.

What flavor is best, GG?

Progress at 2.5 months with pics.

Thanks for sharing, it's great to see your progress. The difference is so apparent. How great to see hard work pay off -
Trader Joe's Dark Chocolate Nibs - 1 calorie each. Cocoa nibs covered in dark chocolate. One or two of these flavor packed nuggets takes care of a sweet craving for me. They come in a little tin.

Will you lie about the surgery?
NMJG replied to BigD35's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I chose not to share and to be vague about the surgery. Only my kids and hubby know. I just didn't want to deal with the discussions, good or bad. I'm just a private person, and I know the rest of my family would have been difficult. At the end of the day, it's no one's business but my own. -
This is not far off from what my dr and nut have me on, so you are not alone.

Does anyone know the reason?
NMJG replied to kim2002's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Basically, raw produce, with all of its fiber and peels and strings and everything that makes crunchy/tasty/textural, can also be too much for a sad little sleeve trying its best to act like a full size tummy. Everyone's healing rate and tolerance level is different, but as Wags noted above, when you over do it, it hurts. The nuts all seem to have different opinions, too. I can get down cooked fruit and veg (no peels) and fresh salsa. My dr says fresh salad in December (4 month mark). -
I seconds that, totally a violation of patient privacy. Please let the office know what happened.

Low fat plain kefir, fat free ricotta, combo pack of three Spanish cheeses, Ezekial Bread, bottled water, Greek yogurt, olive oil, spices, nuts, frozen fish. My favorite store!

I love your little foodie entries, Gamergirl, it always brightens my day.

questions for August ppl
NMJG replied to rossy222@yahoo.com's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
8/12 and I'm down 26 lbs. from surgery date, 31 lbs. from start. You are going a lot faster than I am, but I'll take whatever I can get. I'm over 50, had a starting BMI right at 36, and have a slow metabolism. But I've gone from 18/20 and XXL to 14/16 and size M in nine weeks, so I'm happy. Been stalled 2 weeks, too. -
That is so impressive. Thanks for posting pix and congratulations.

I'm 9 weeks out. I can drink water fairly normally. Not really a gulp, but not sipping, either. About 2-3 oz. of food fills me up, particularly if it is protein like chicken or meat. I can handle about 4 oz. of softer proteins like beans or tofu but then I'm stuffed. I still eat mostly protein, a tiny bit of cooked veg (I rarely have enough room for it after my protein), a protein shake every day, and the occasional glass of milk before bedtime if I need a protein boost at the end of the day. I also snack on 15-20 grams of nuts nearly every day.

make some sugar-free lemonade. instant is fine, but try some made with real lemon or lime juice for a real treat.

I can't add much to this thread other than Yes, it's easy to eat out if you pay attention. I love restaurants with large appetizer menus or tapas/small plate menus. Olive Garden has a small plate menu that is great, chicken skewers are yummy. I also order from the "Side Dishes" part of menus and find that is just enough food for a meal. Also Chinese can be good if you ask them to steam your food and serve the sauce on the side - just stay away from the fried dishes and rice/noodles. Vietnamese Pho is good if you can limit yourself on the noodles. Ask for extra veg and less or no noodles and it's very tasty and low cal (high sodium, though). I find fast food the most difficult just because I'm sick of fast food grilled chicken, but it does work in a pinch. Chick-fil-A has a lot of options from chicken breast soup to chicken salad or grilled nuggets, not to mention very good salads and great sugar-free lemonade. Don't forget Wendy's chile, too.

That is amazing. Congratulations on a truly inspiring feat.

sounds good, think I'll try it!
