Morning, my friends. Quiet day at work, it's nice. Since we are going out for Thanksgiving for the first time ever, we are trying to think of things to do in the city while we are there. Movie? 8PM early sales? We are having dinner at the restaurant at 4 pm. Any suggestions on things to do? What is going to be so weird this Thanksgiving is eating before dinner. In past years I saved up my appetite all day for the big meal. This year that won't work, since I won't be able to eat more if I skip meals early in the day or not. And skipping meals early in the day will hose my Protein intake.

Thanks, Lynda, that's very useful info,

Bump. I'd like to hear more, too.

Wow, everyone looks great! -
It would have been way too much for me, but everyone is different.

Del Sol in El Paso, Dr. Acosta. My insurance required a center of excellence, and there weren't any in Abq.

I'm dying. August kicks off green Chile season here in New Mexico, and chile roasters fill the road sides and markets. We bought some fresh roasted today and the family is eating them in hot buttered tortillas right now while I sip my liquid diet. Aaaarrrrgggghhhh.

Socorro, good weather for it right now

Megan, I'm so sorry to hear you are feeling so ill. Warm tea perhaps? I couldn't take cold water but chamomile tea worked for me. I agree with Laura on the liquids, it seems like you should be able to do full liquids at 6 weeks. It's definitely worth a call to your doctor or nut to find out. Protein shakes, or even a glass of milk, would do wonders for you. I think Isopure liquid protein drinks are consider clear liquids, but you can check with your doctor. You can get them online or at GNC or Vitamin Shoppe. Try it over ice, 8 oz at a time (trying to get down the entire enormous bottle at once is a bit daunting, so break it up over the day).

Honey, you are only 6 weeks out from major surgery. Give yourself a break. Recovery times can differ for everyone. Take it easy and enjoy your naps. If you are still feeling this way at 6 months, then I'd worry more (unless you do have a history of depression, of course). As you get further down the road, more weight will be off, you will have more energy, and the naps will cut back on their own.

Very nice explanation, Lips, knew we could count on you

4 Things I Wish I Would've Known Pre Op
NMJG replied to Tink22-sleeve's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love my sleeve, too, but I wish I had known how awful the first month would be, I would have been better prepared for it. -
Great input, folks, I love hearing everyone's thoughts on this. Laura and Lips, where are you?

No, but I have used Hemp powder, it's pretty good.

Feeling Too Full, Too Fast
NMJG replied to scootergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've noticed this, too, and I think it's normal, but I'm not a doctor. Some days I just don't feel like eating (just like before the sleeve). Those are days it is hard to get my Protein in. It's the other days that I worry about I find that if I switch back to softer Proteins for a couple of days (tuna salad, egg salad, cottage cheese, chicken salad, tofu, greek yogurt, beans) it helps to get through those times, as the soft proteins don't give me that sick stuffed feeling after 2 bites and I can actually get down 3 or 4 oz. Just make sure you don't overeat them, though, and get back to dense protein as soon as you can. -
Trader Joe's Dark Chocolate Nibs. 1 calorie a piece. Chocolate nibs dipped in 65% dark chocolate, very intense. A couple of nibs do the trick without sabotaging me.

I get dumping on occasion, typically when I eat something my tummy is not ready for. I'm at 3 1/2 months now and it's much less common, but I had it weekly in the first few months. I distinctly remember eating 4 fresh strawberries and having an explosive exit within a short amount of time. eggs can do it sometimes, even drinking a Protein shake too fast can sometimes do it. Sliming typically happens when I eat too much too fast. Bites are too big, I don't wait enough time between bites. Very unpleasant.

How To Tell Caring People To Just Shut Up!?
NMJG replied to Seela's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Seela, I feel for you. I have one kid that does that to me. I have no answers, just empathy. -
I can't do beer anymore, carbonation makes me ill. However, Jack Daniels with Water on the rocks works well and is only 65 calories. Sometimes it's a glass of red wine, which I can make last an hour if I sip it, but that's 110 calories and has carbs. I really have to watch the booze, the calories creep up. I need to limit it to one drink once a week to keep losing. I do like going out with friends to the local watering hole, though.

11 Months Post Op Vsg Not Losing Weight
NMJG replied to pinchyc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What GG said. Gotta log it so you can see where the issues are. Are you following the sleeve basics? That seems to help lots of people get back on the horse. Protein first 64 oz minimum Water Don't drink with your meals. If you want to get back on track, it might be a good idea to just try to stick to what worked for you early in your program. Can you visit your doctor or nut for a check up? Good luck. -
You can puree tuna and chicken salad, chili, etc.

When Does The Fatigue Go Away?!

It took me 6 to 8 weeks to feel myself again. Just be patient and try to not overdo. Be kind to yourself during this healing period. -

Synergy Kombucha Allowed?
NMJG replied to nomorecupcakes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I tried it because I used to love it. The fizzies were too much for me and I couldn't drink it it. Made me feel ill. -
Y'all just had major surgery, of course you feel icky. Totally normal. Just take it easy, pamper yourselves, and rest. The first month is bad, but it gets better. Just follow your doctor's orders as best you can. Get in your fluid like you have been doing and your protein. Don't second guess yourself. Best of luck to you.
