Losing interest in food
NMJG replied to Zakura7477's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Z, this is entirely normal. Eventually your appetite will return. Just keep getting in your protein and liquids. Your losses will show soon, just be patient and realize that many people only lose a pound or two a week. Not everyone loses 3-4 lbs a week. Keep up the good work! -
Misty, congrats! that's wonderful!

Anyone throw up after a protein shake?
NMJG replied to KristinaRnY's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
They make me nauseous and give me the runs sometimes. I still use them a couple of times a week tho. Convenient. LOL. -
Maybe we can bring this thread back to life. I'm not Indian but have many friends from India. Would love to get sleeve friendly recipes from you guys. I adore Indian food.

I'm using Amlactin. Don't know if it really helps but it sure can't hurt.

It's awesome, isn't it? Congrats!

Deviled egg Hummus with veggie sticks Soy nuts Tapenade on celery sticks Roasted chickpeas (packaged) Sashimi Broccoli slaw with Asian dressing Dry roasted mixed nuts Pumpkin seeds Ostrim turkey sticks (GNC) Blue cheese alone or in celery Brie melted on zucchini or alone

Might be a good idea to make an appt with your doctor, run some tests, talk to the nut, visit a theraptist, etc. IMHO you sound like you may need professional help now, not just our two cents. Good luck to you.

I get them all the time. Couldn't function without Imitrex.

Don't kid yourself. Your hard work is making a big difference. People who eat sliders and drink too many Caramel Lattes don't get results like you are seeing. Congrats and keep it up!

I'm surprised you didn't find it in search. It's popular. You can add it to shakes, of course, but it's also tasty by itself mixed with a touch of water to make a paste. Makes a good Asian peanut dip or sauce. Nice added to chicken stock for African style chicken soup.

I was a slow loser. I lose around 2 lbs a week. Been pretty consistent from the beginning. Only lost 10 lbs the first month.

Using BariatricPal or Other Online Support Systems Can Improve Bariatric Success!
NMJG replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
The bariatric coordinator at United Healthcare recommended I join an online forum at the beginning of my looking into WLS. Best advice ever. -
Pain meds after surgery ?
NMJG replied to Nevermind's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Whatever surgery you have, beware pain meds afterwards and try to limit them as soon as possible because they cause terrible constipation. Search threads here to read about patient experiences with constipation. It is a very common problem the first week. -
Mine is much much less than it used to be. I loved sweets pre-surgery, but now I like salty stuff. Sweet tooth is not gone completely but is pretty tiny now. Low carb eating has really changed me. The weird thing is that if I forget and start to plan a meal I still fall back on "Protein, starch, veg." It's hard to shuck a lifetime of carbs that are ingrained in you, even when you don't really crave them any more.

why dont u just stay on the pre op diet?
NMJG replied to neev's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think it depends on your personal history. Many people here can lose weight. It's keeping it off long term. Many here are yoyo dieters and needed an extra tool to make it stick for life. -
I Weigh only weekly because the daily fluctuations make me crazy. They are completely normal. If I eat Asian food I'm up a couple of pounds the next day due to water. I thought I read somewhere that a stall is officially three weeks or more. So maybe you aren't stalling, just readjusting .

Bariatric coordinator thinks RNY would be better for me. What to do?!
NMJG replied to Scylla's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Scylla No offense meant. What came across to me in your post, whether it is what you meant or not, is that because of your coordinator's comments you were considering RnY because you eat sugary foods, with the assumption that RnY was a better choice because it would more likely make you sick if you ate it and thus "control" your sugar eating because you could not control it yourself. Perhaps this is only my poor understanding of your true concerns. If, however, my assumption is correct, I recommended a rethinking because this is very difficult and life altering procedure. Even those who think they have researched everything have a number of surprises in store. There are pitfalls waiting for us everywhere, and if one is already anticipating issues before surgery because of a habit they don't think they can give up, then it just seems like resolving those issues prior to WLS is the wisest choice and gives that person the best chance of success. Too many people don't resolve these before surgery, hence the sad posts we see here from people who keep running into problems along the way, or people who lose fast but their old habits rear their ugly heads and cause weight regain after the honeymoon is over. We all want you to succeed. -
Hi everyone, Good to hear how y'all are doing. Things are going well for me. How much I can eat each day varies for me too, but usually around 800 calories. Some days I just don't feel like eating and get in 500-600. Lately I started working out with a trainer and have had a few days where I was actually hungry (nothing like pre-surgery though) and ate 900-1000 calories. I needed to make use of more veggies to fill myself up after I got my protein in. I still can only eat half a cup of food at a sitting. Protein: maybe 2-3 ounces, then a couple of bites of veg. I have my 3 meals a day plus a snack midmorning and midafternoon. Have had some stalls along the way, but never more than a few weeks. Even during stalls I still lost inches. My biggest problem is eating slowly. That is the worst habit to break and I wasn't even a speed eater to start with.

every once in a while I will steal a bit of Mexican rice off my husband's plate, but other than that I stay away from it - brown, wild or whatever. Dense calories and carbs with no benefit. For me, rice is not a good food when losing weight or trying to keep it off long term. As far as tummy trouble, one bite did not bother me. I just choose to avoid it. Sushi? I do sashimi now. Same flavor without the rice (more expensive though).

It stimulate stomach acid, dehydrates you, and stimulates appetite. All bad things early on after surgery. Everyone does it differently on this board, but I followed my doctor's orders. No coffee or caffeine for first 3 months. After that, I may have decaf on occasion, but also have caffeinated things like Chike Protein coffee or a skinny latte once every so often. I used to drink 2 cups of coffee a day, plus ice tea at lunch. It was great to get rid of that addiction. Plus, whenever I do have caffeine now it really packs a punch, so one cup is fine, and I really enjoy it.

From that reply I suspect he and his wife were there for marriage counseling!

Wow. This is why my WLS is my business and no one else's. I hate busy bodies and personal comments, so invasive. Every time I hear a story like this it just reinforces my decision to keep it private. Sounds like you handled it like a lady (more than I would have done LOL). I order my stuff online.

I still struggle with....(fill in the blanks)
NMJG replied to Disabledaccount's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's easy: Roasted and salted soy nuts Crunchamame The Good Bean garbanzo snacks Mixed nuts (salted is fine) Jerky Ostrim turkey sticks My bugaboo is eating slowly, like everyone else. Dang, I wish I could get the hang of it. I even have a timer. -
Frequently: Protein shake Cottage cheese Greek or Icelandic yogurt Very occasionally: Mcdonalds egg white delight without the muffin Omelette Deviled egg Skinny latte, skinny mocha or skinny london fog Not terribly creative I'm afraid.
