Cramping with cold water?
NMJG replied to KristinaRnY's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yes, very cold liquid makes me uncomfortable. I prefer warm drinks or room temperature drinks. -
I drink a couple of times a week. It's not good and I certainly don't recommend it, but there it is. If you are going to do it, limit yourself to ONE. More is very bad with the sleeve. It dehydrates you and makes you drunk very fast. Sip your drink and make it last 45 min to an hour. Shots are very bad with the sleeve. Last, don't have sugary mixed drinks like margaritas, unless they are skinny versions. I prefer a small glass of wine or an ounce of JD or bourbon with water over ice.

That's a very interesting observation. Food is a sort of meditation if you think about it. I haven't come up with an alternative.

Being able to feel comfortable and trust you pt is important. You want them to push you, but there is also a limit and you and your trainer need to both agree on what that line is. Adding muscle may well help you, since muscle burns more calories. It's a great thing to do for yourself. However, be prepared to not lose on the scale, and maybe even gain, while you are building muscle. Do expect to see fat reduction, though, via measurements and skin fold tests.

So let's see some specific recipes, folks! I bought a Ninja Pro and haven't a clue.

Travel? Where in the USA would you take your dream vacation? Why?
NMJG replied to Kitt3000's topic in The Lounge
I'm taking a trip this year, too. I'm thinking Alaska...maybe rent a motor home. -
I hate not drinking while I eat.
NMJG replied to karinbuck's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's hard to get used to, but I don't even think about it anymore, it's habit to avoid drinking while eating now. I even wait 60 minutes after eating most of the time, no problem at all. I used to drink 4-5 glasses of Water with meals. Karinbuck, just stick with it, it will get better, really -
Should I go pescatarian and dairy free for one month with my sleeve?
NMJG replied to TheNewSusie's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Susie, I say go for it. I'm having trouble getting off that last bit of weight myself, it's really dragging. Changing things up a bit might be the ticket for you. Good luck -

Sounds like Santa Fe, New Mexico is the place for you. Sunny warm days and cool nights at 6500'. Amazing architecture and some of the oldest history in the US, fabulous food (order appetizers or side dishes lol), stunning arts and crafts, great museums, and wonderful outdoor hiking/jeeping/ballooning opportunities. You will love our dry, clean desert air for a change of pace. -
I eat real food at almost 8 months out, but I honestly still cannot eat enough to get in all my Protein, so I still have shakes 5 times a week. They are a real life saver for getting in protein. My current favorites are Syntrax Matrix in chocolate flavors and Peanut Butter Cookie (I add an extra spoonful of PB2 to make it more nutty) Chike coffee Protein powder (I have it hot or cold, sometimes add in a tbl of unsweetened cocoa powder to make a mocha) unjury chicken broth protein I also have Amazing Meal brand on occasion, and use hemp or pea protein instead of whey sometimes to mix it up. I get tired of whey all the time and I'm not crazy about soy protein flavor.

Just my $0.02, but I don't think posting that article here is particularly helpful to WLS patients. No offense meant. So many people here don't get their water in and end up in the ER dehydrated. This article (by a regular person, not even a reputable medical researcher), tacitly gives people a reason to ignore their doctor's water mandate. Again, no offense to the poster, I am just worried that the newly sleeved will believe this blog posting and cause themselves real harm.

Frustrated and tired of string cheese!
NMJG replied to Darianna75's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Vomiting at 6 weeks isn't normal unless you are just eating too big bites and/or eating too fast. Took me 5 months to get the bite size and timing down. I second calling your dr. Just to check. -
They work well. I take them monthly. I got lazy about it for a few months and it got bad Now I'm back on them and my outlook brightened considerably. I also take B complex pills and liquid B since my bout with deficiency.

How many surgeons did you consult before making a final decision on who to perform the surgery?
NMJG replied to QueenA's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I attended info seminars from two different practices in different cities, both centers of excellence (as required by my insurance). I ended up choosing a center in El Paso (none in New Mexico was a center of excellence), and I researched the two doctors in that practice. I ended up deciding they were both excellent and just picked the one with the soonest appointment. He has been great. I hear very good things about his partner, too. -
Slow down your movin too fast!
NMJG replied to RJ'S/beginning's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
haha, if your trainer says you are going too fast, you are just a little spitfire, aren't you? Be patient, it will come. -
close to goal weight!
NMJG replied to allyrenee222's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow , that is so fast! Amazing! -

NMJG replied to RJ'S/beginning's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sending hugs, RJ. Are you in a position to work out with a personal trainer to improve strength? I did that for a couple of months and it helped a lot. She was very sensitive to my limitations. Now I can even help my 90 lb old dog get on the bed, which I couldn't do before. -
How are things going for those are are at (or near) goal?
NMJG replied to Oregondaisy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm switching it up from my original plan. Still trying to get the last 20 lbs off. I'm still pretty low calorie at 900, but I am now eating high fats and low carbs. Protein is the same. I've read a lot recently about high fat with low carb eating. Seems to be working for me tho. Been doing it just over a month. The fats do help with satiety. I eat nuts, butter, avocados, and whole fat dairy and cheese. It seems so weird to eat so much fat as I have eaten low fat for decades. I've also tried the modified fast days, and it wasn't hard at all. I'm not doing 5:2 regularly, but it's great to have another tool in case I need it. Mostly I have a modified fast day following an overeating day, which doesn't happen too frequently, three times a month maybe. I suspect 1300 calories is going to be where I'll end up maintaining. I still have to go under 1000 a day to lose anything. -
My boobs are my best friend.
NMJG replied to Mallori Baker's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At your age there is a good chance they will be just fine. You may even stay a DDD, but more like 36 DDD. I went from a 40 D to a 34 D. Mine sag, but I'm old enough to be your mom -
Percentage of protein, fat & carbs
NMJG replied to healthbound1's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My original plan was around 40% protein, 40% carb, and 20% fat. Nowadays I have my carbs and fats switched and shoot for much lower carbs and much higher fats. Seems to be working. Even at 40% carbs, though, it was 60 g a day max. -
I like jello sugar free puddings and mousses, Starbucks skinny mocha latte tall decaf (sugar free nonfat), swiss miss diet hot cocoa, or one of my tastier protein shakes (syntrax Matrix peanut butter cookie is delish).

Is there a way to see if your stomach has stretched out?

Do you really believe you would not lose on 900 calories a day? -

It was only for three days, not forever. But lex has a good idea, try 900. -

I'm really glad to hear you are seeing someone, that is a huge step. If you want to try something, take a stab at going all liquids for three days. No solid food, just three Protein shakes (or enough to meet your protein goal). I know it sounds stupid, but it will shrink your tummy back down a lot. I did it because I had other issues going on that required it, and I was shocked how little I could eat after three days of liquids. It was like being newly sleeved. Don't forget your Water, of course, and any other liquids that are calorie free. Let us know how you do. We are rooting for you.
