Best Place to buy protein shakes
NMJG replied to jennlee's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
To those who are presleeve: don't buy too much before surgery. Your tastes will very likely change and a protein shake you like now may not appeal to you post-sleeve. It happens to a lot of people and they end up throwing out or giving away protein powders they used to like and now hate. -

Unjury makes Chicken Broth flavored protein powder. It's reasonably tasty. Just make sure you don't heat it over 140 degrees F. -
That's awesome! I was sleeved Aug 12. You have done amazingly well, you should be proud.

When Will I Have A Decent Meal Again
NMJG replied to CurvyCakes's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Around 4 months is likely when you'll have your first sorta-kinda normal meal LOL. A couple ounces of chicken and three bites of veg. It gets better every day. -
Reasons why sleevers should eat slowly: You can get more food in when you eat slowly. That means your meal lasts you longer through the day and you won't get hungry so soon afterwards. You will also be able to get in more protein in a meal and may not need to supplement protein with snacks. You also may not feel the need for snacks at all if you get in enough food at a meal. Eating fast gives your stomach less time to figure out what's going on and whether it is full or not. When you eat slowly it has plenty of time to send you signals to stop eating before you are too full. This helps avoid stretching your sleeve or experiencing discomfort after eating meals. I also recommend the phone app Eat Slower. I used it for months until I learned to slow down. Sometimes eating fast still creeps up on me. I have to stay vigilant.

I eat pizza on rare occasions, and then it's one or two small pieces without the crust and it's the best pizza I can find (no frozen or fast food pizza, but really good pizzeria pizza so it's worth it). I calculate it in to my foods for the day. I may even do a bit of extra exercise after pizza or have a modified fast day the following day. This is how I keep it in line. Pizza can be a slippery slope for lots of people. Thankfully, after I have my pizza craving satisfied I'm good for another month or two. I would caution anyone who has less pizza control to avoid it, though, or try one of the yummy pizza alternatives people have posted here. Lots of times it's just the sauce and cheesey goodness that we crave.

It gets better, really. Can you do something nice for yourself? A massage or pedicure? You will get through this, just hang tough, sister.

It's too late, but did I make the right decision?
NMJG replied to rbtnln's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You can do this. You are at a sucky period right now, but it will get a lot better. Don't plan on any significant hair growing in by the wedding, though I've got the hair loss thing going great guns, too. I don't know how old you are, but if you are middle age or post menopause, you might want to check your calories with your nut or doctor. Personally, I don't lose at all on 1000 calories a day. I go to 800 calories a day to see a loss, and I'm still getting in all my Protein with that, too. I just keep it very low carb and eat more vegs. At my fastest (during my honeymoon period) I lost 2 lbs. a week on 800 calories a day. Now I lose maybe a lb a week if I'm lucky. Just some ideas. Best of luck to you. -
Remember that you can always cut a Protein bar in half. Some of them are way too many calories (and just too big) for a sleever, but half a bar works great. I agree that they are best used as an occasional treat, but that's just my opinion.

Need breakfast ideas, sick of eggs and protein shakes

OK, I tried the Protein powder pancakes today and it was good! 1 scoop flavored Protein Powder (I used Syntrax Matrix Milk Chocolate) 2 eggs 1/4 cup blueberries Blend until smooth. Cook on medium heat. I made two cakes (two servings). It fills you up. They were a little thin but they puff up with cooking. Be careful not to burn them. The second one I filled with 2 tablespoons of ricotta cheese and 2 tablespoons of my berry syrup (recipe below) and rolled it up. One pancake per MFP: Calories: 141 Protein: 18 Carbs: 4 Fat: 6 Fiber: 1 Sugar: 3 Berry Syrup 1 cup frozen mixed berries (or any single berry is fine) 1 cup Water Sweetener to taste (I use liquid stevia drops). In a saucepan, bring the berries and water to a boil until reduced. Blend with an immersion blender until smooth. Add the sweeteneer (start with 1 tsp sugar equivalent) a little at a time until it is sweet enough to your liking. Store in the refrigerator up to a week. Makes 8 servings. Per serving per MFP: Calories: 9 Protein: 0 Carbs: 2 Fat: 0 Fiber: 0 Sugar: 1 -
Today I was at a community party with lots of yummy food. I prepared my typical plate, you know, the plate with tablespoons of food dotted around it (90% plate and 10% food). As I started to eat, a very nice lady I knew sat down with me. Last time i saw her was November and she was considerably bigger then. Today she was heavy, but not really really heavy like before. She immediately commented on how thin i looked, and I responded in kind. She had lost 70 lbs since November, Hmmmm i'm thinking..... So here is the interesting thing....her plate looked just like mine! I did not want to ask her and be rude, but i was mighty curious!

Tracking food too much for anyone?
NMJG replied to gomekast's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
some people don't track, and hopefully they will post here and give advice. For myself, I have seen indications for higher success rates for people who track food and weight consistently. Just my opinion, but I want to give myself the best chance possible for long term success. If that means tracking my stupid food till I die, guess that's what I'll be doing. I don't want to gain it back. As for thinking about food all day long, I'm afraid nothing is going to stop that for me. I'm a food addict. -
Maybe write her a note attached to a bouquet of flowers? A little romance never hurt....

Just make sure it is Protein isolate (best kind for sleevers as the protein is highly available to your body, more so than other types of protein) and make sure the mix is low in carbohydrates.
