Good thread. I am 8 months out and I too lose half as fast as I used to. Now I lose maybe a pound a week, used to lose 2 lbs a week. But, I am very close to goal and the BMI is low, so I think that has a lot to do with it. I also eat around 900-1000 calories a day now, not 700-800. I do a modified fast day once or twice a week. Breakfast Protein shake (low carb) or eggs or Protein powder & egg baked concoction or ricotta or cottage cheese or yogurt lunch some sort of meat and/or cheese (3 oz), some sort of veg, sometimes a small salad, occasionally include corn tortilla or a slice of bread or cracker (couple of times a week) dinner some sort of meat and/or cheese (3 oz), some sort of veg, occasionally include corn tortilla or a slice of bread or crackers (couple of times a week) Snacks low carb or sf sweets, fruit, apple & pnut butter, nuts, Jerky, pumpkin seeds, soy nuts, yogurt, sf pudding or ice pops. Very rarely I have a lower carb Protein Bar (emergencies only, couple times a month maybe) Other Occasional glass of wine or liquor, maybe a couple of times a week. I always get my daily minimum 64 oz of water/liquids. Typical Entrees (almost always 3 oz portions, I can't get down more than that) Carne Adovada (New Mexican pork stewed long and slow in red chile) PM if you want the recipe - yum! Roast chicken Green chile chicken stew Hamburger patty Corned beef Turkey meat Precooked Meatballs Tofu Steak Beans and shredded cheese (refried or charro beans) Cassoulet (white beans with variety of meat and sausage chunks) Italian deli meats (salame, prosciutto, cotto) and cheese and olives

Stop freaking out, dear. It is not fat. It's water or a big poop or some other biological thing. Don't worry yourself over it.

I made easy-peasy greek yogurt popsicles today. High Protein and great for warmer days. My popsicle mold (Ikea) has 6 compartments, and holds a total of 1 1/2 cups. For best results, measure how much yours holds. Mix together: 1 cup plain greek yogurt (nonfat or whole, as you prefer) 1/2 cup fruit (i used strawberries, but if you are early out stick with cooked fruit and no seeds) Splenda or other sweetener to taste (I used 3 packets) Blend together and pour into mold and freeze for a few hours. If you can't have fruit yet use 1 1/2 cups yogurt with sugar free flavored syrup like Torani. My next version is going to be coconut flavored with coconut extract and a few tablespoons of unsweetened coconut bits.

So why do people ask if you meant to lose weight?
NMJG posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Lots of people have commented on my weight loss, however, invariably they follow up with "did you mean to lose weight?" Why is that? Does it happen to you? Does anyone lose that kind of weight accidentally? Is our society so difficult to lose weight in that people automatically assume you are ill if you lose a lot of weight? Maybe I look awful as a thin person and I look sick? What is your experience? -
Vets, what is the story with the loud sounds the stomach makes?

Lol, still have it on occasion after 8 months. Just Sleevette sharing her opinion about our most recent meal together. -

I agree people mean well, I just find it odd it happens so frequently. -
I don't think you look fat. You look pretty normal to me.

Chike brand of protein coffee is awesome. Good hot or cold. Add unsweetened cocoa powder to make a mocha. I bought it online direct.

I love my sleeve and I am loving myself
NMJG replied to hatters's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Good for you! Best wishes and continued success -
Sorry, nothing really works except time and surgery. However, the younger you are the better it firms up over time. Lotions etc. make your skin soft and look somewhat better, but it is not a long term fix. If anyone has a miracle lotion, I would love to see it.

"Fudge"sicles - Stage 2 (possibly full liquids as well)

Walmart carries pb2 plain and chocolate -
You've got to get both your Protein and Water in, you simply have to do it for your health. I know it is hard, but do your best. Sending hugs Try different brands - many have sample packs. Try hot cocoa or chicken Soup type protein mixes, try clear fruit flavored Isopure type protein. You can mix your protein into Gelatin and make protein Jello, or freeze it into popsicles, or mix it into sugarfree jello pudding. Even a glass of nonfat milk will help you at this point. Search on this website for protein, you will find many recommendations.

I'm of the "fewer carbs the better" opinion. IMHO while complex carbs are certainly better than simple carbs, I believe they do slow you down in weight loss. I also don't believe, per many studies I have read, that we actually need carbs at all. Not to offend anyone who thinks differently.... This article lists 23 studies on low carb eating http://authoritynutrition.com/23-studies-on-low-carb-and-low-fat-diets/ That said, personally, I do eat Beans several times a week. And I eat vegetables and occasionally fruit. I skip breads, grains, Pasta, potato, corn, rice for the most part. Once in a blue moon I'll have a craving for something (a few days ago it was a grilled cheese sandwich, go figure), so I'll have it and be done with it. But overall, I feel that for me, low carb is the route I need to go for not only short term weight loss, but long term success at keeping the weight off.

Getting the hang of it
NMJG replied to littletont1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Pepcid isn't enough with the sleeve. You will likely need a PPI like omeprozole, prilosec, etc. and a prescription for it from your surgeon is a good idea. -
Stall is depressing me :-(
NMJG replied to TheWigster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Folks, stalls are normal, especially in the first month, but they happen any time. Just keep to your plan and you'll get through it. Stop weighing yourself daily and go to weekly or bi-weekly. Daily weighing will make you crazy and is unnecessary at this point. I never weigh daily, I weigh weekly. My weight can shift +/- 2 lbs. on a daily basis. -
Tijuana Or Puerto Vallarta?
NMJG replied to shanuska's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I am not a Mexico sleever, but I would think about the proximity to the border if I were you. People with complications do post here from time to time to tell their stories, and if by small chance you are someone with a complication, you can get to a hospital stateside very quickly from TJ. Just something to consider if everything else is equal. That said, I'm considering Dr. Saucedo in Monterrey for PS next year, and that is nowhere near the border. -
Depressed about Weight gain after an injury. Is this normal
NMJG replied to Kayakerak's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, I'm with the others on this. Swelling and water retention. No way that could be fat. Best wishes for a speedy recovery. -

Two weeks post for me. You'll know when you are ready and your body will tell you when it's not! My wife made an embankment of pillows for me which allowed me to transition nicely. I made a cloud of pillows after surgery, with my head a lot higher to counteract the acid, and I have gotten used to it. I still sleep with 4-6 pillows at 8 months, I like it -
I still need my PPI every night at 8 months. I tried going off and got an ulcer (very painful). I'm afraid this is my future.

Anyones Taste Buds Change After Being Sleeved?
NMJG replied to skinnygirlwithin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, it is fairly common. My first 6 months my tastes were completely different. At 8 months it's closer to what I liked pre-surgery, except for pasta and bread. -
I was on 40 mg of omeprozole for the first month. Also try 2 GasX strips, they work wonders. And walk, walk, walk, it helps so much.

How Much Weight Did You Lose in the 1st Year?
NMJG replied to Disabledaccount's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@ My two cents is to set 10 lb. mini goals with no date attached. 10 lbs. is very doable. This way you are only completing against yourself. The other type of goal that I like to use is dress size. Stick with a particular brand so it is consistent (I like Coldwater Creek). Good luck to you
