  1. I was joking with Laura, she said her surgeon got his degree online. The convo had turned pretty lighthearted.

    Ice cream.

I was saved at the last minute by remembering the Protein shakes I took to TJ at the last minute. It was late and the cafeteria was closed and the ped fridge is packed with ice cream. Not to worry, I just drank my Protein shake at 9 1/2 days instead if 10. I will say a prayer for all the sleevers who can't stand Protein Shakes. It was my first feeling of fullness. I love, love the Dr Mercola grass fed, artificial sweetener free chocolate protein shakes. Tastes like chocolate milk even when made with Water. 160 cals per 20 mg protein 2 scoops. Yum!

Well it's only about one Dr, obviously complaints about other Drs fly high like a flag
  4. Well if go back and look at the thread I said nothing to her and she attacked me saying how much I get on her nerves. I somehow am at fault? Attacks are allowed with such crudeness but I may not respond? Just checking..... I've been on quite a few boards and attacks like that aren't allowed. Oh well.......

    Dr. Kelly: Laura is AWESOME!

I love her too! Lora must have answered a zillion texts from me before I went to MX calming my nerves as much as possible. She had her surgery with him and works only for him. She also doesn't get paid per patient-she is salary. It's refreshing. She's moving to TJ this year also. When I was down there Cecy did all the driving and care when I needed her (her English is so-so) and Alina is an assistant that helps you with dietary instructions ect. She speaks perfect English. It's quite a great team Lora was still available the entire time for questions and welcomed me back to the states. <3

    Oh my!

Thanks everyone!!!!! 11 lbs in 10 days? And I haven't been hungry? It's sooooo awesome! I won't turn this into a ticker thread, but does anyone have a link to one that includes the surgery date (because I also lost 11lbs on that torturous preop liver shrinking diet)?

Dr garcia 1 month out update!

    I love your post!!!!
  8. For the first 4 days the one between my breasts (sorta, the tiny one blow between? Lol) swelled kind of big. I was told not to put anything on them but I swabbed it with Betadine because my breasts are large and I was afraid the area was too moist. Problem solved
  9. gibson_girl

    Really

It has to do with them being more aware of their weight in general, but you can't let 5lb swings bother you. It's really not weight and it will go away!
  10. gibson_girl

    Really

Research has shown people who weigh themselves daily are generally thinner. That being said, you can gain as much as 5-7 lbs by the end of the day. Be sure to weigh yourself first thing in the morning after you pee, naked. And if you gained 2lbs in one day, unless you ate 7,000 calories over your basal metabolic rate it's not real weight!
  11. Everyone seems to forget that Bariatric surgery has a statistical risk of death 1 in 400. The US leak rate is 1 in 100. The risk goes down significantly the more surgeries a surgeon has performed, but they do not go away. I went into my surgery knowing that my surgeon had almost 7k surgeries but I knew that I could die. I didn't and so far, so blessed. The dead do not speak and most people having surgery are not on these forums. If your surgeon has any significant amount of experience he has had major complications and deaths. If you believe otherwise, well that is your choice. But if you really think your coordinator or surgeon is going to give up their true complication or mortality rate when it isn't recorded anywhere......I think you deserve to go into this with your eyes wide open for your family's and your own sake.

    Ice cream.

I'm not pre op, I need to chance my profile because I'm always mobile. Today I'm 10 days post op. At the last minute I remembered the Protein shakes in my car and avoided eating that crap ! Yay! My son is being discharged today, we had laparoscopic surgery one week apart. He's a big strong 13 year old and I was really counting on his lifting abilities lol but I'm just overjoyed he is ok

    Sore throat?

After the saltwater gargle last night my throat feels soooo much better! Relief finally.
  14. Laura, you are really getting on my nerves are you married to him? I've seen you post in the surgery section about your surgeon. That's ridiculous. Something MUST be up
  15. Here is a picture of Florence/Oasis of Hope.
  16. Olivia, Florence/Oasis is a full hospital with a blood bank and real ICU. It's actually a world renowned cancer hospital specializing in late stage cancer. There were people from Europe, New York and a lot of Amish folks. When you pull up the first building is a one or 2 level building with a very nice lobby etc. The Bariatric section is in this building. There are 2 tall, multilevel buildings connected behind it. I've worked in healthcare 15ish years and I have no idea where you get this hospital isn't a real one. Oh and the nurse got my IV in on the first try and I am an IV therapist's nightmare lol.
  17. Well I'll certainly keep my mouth shut on making any suggestions to you

    Sore throat?

Same boat here. I did a saltwater gargle and TMI but so much icky stuff came out and I already feel better.

    Ice cream.

Never mind, I remember protein powder is in my car. I'll try that 12 hours early..........
  20. And if you truly read my posts you would see I talk about a wide variety of subjects, seat belt extenders, healing with a toddler, even my preop diet woes etc. I think Dr Kelly is excellent, I've had 2 surgeries in the states and I've never been treated so kindly or felt in better hands. I hear so much glorious feedback from other people about their surgeons but somehow you picked me to be rude to. Thanks. I'll try not to lose any sleep :/

Thanks! I'm very pleased with my choice. Did you see the thread with my pics? http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/77426-hola-from-tj-3-days-post-op-with-dr-kelly-pics/page__fromsearch__1

How to book with Dr. Kelly

Same glowing experience. He hired an American post-op assistant named Lora. The contact info above is still correct. I loved Lora, I texted her nonstop. His price is now $5500. It includes the upgraded leak test at Hospital Angeles and the Lucerna hotel. You can book through Mexican Bariatrics but my fellow post op across the hall was MAD at them for downgrading her hotel post op without telling her. Their price is $5200.

<cut and pasted from a different thread> I'm more passionate because I'm a midwife. Delivering babies is a lot of responsibility and there is always a chance of something going wrong fast that isn't caused by something you did. I've had hemorrhages, shoulder dystocias and other life threatening complications. Thankfully I'm still new and had a more experienced midwife with me but I handled it well and all was well. A local midwife that has delivered over 5,000 babies and is extremely well respected and has been teaching other midwives for years lost a baby a few months back. This obviously tore her apart. Other midwives and their support staff are much more supportive than Mexican bariatric surgery staff and coordinators lemme tell you. I so far have a 0% long term complication rate and a 0% death rate. It's because I've only been doing this for 2 1/2 years. The likelihood of me having a severe complication or death regardless of doing everything right when I get to 5-7k babies is really high. I truly feel for all these surgeons, especially the one(s) drug through the mud for operating on THE most at risk population (obese, morbidly obese). That's where my strong feelings in my posts come from. I'm a Christian person and believe God works through the hands of surgeons. I believe I was led to Dr Kelly, but I was there 4 days and met him a few times per day. I appreciate him and all his wife did very much, but it's not enough to be my hero just a talented person I'm very glad came into my life. And YES, if anyone was wondering posts about Drs that are obviously great Drs repeatedly saying how awful they were would make me every bit as mad. Proverbs 19:5 A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who speaks lies will not escape.

Cerenetee, The only serious problems Dr Kelly is having is people constantly gossiping and spreading lies about him. Give me some proof, I know about a death 2 years ago. I want some actual, solid proof that other than one unfortunate problem in thousands (Dr Garcia has had less than 1/3 of Dr Kelly 's experience, one day he WILL have a death. The death rate from Bariatric surgery is 1 in 400). I'm going to post below why I'm sick of hearing these lies. It's not hero worship, or even a close relationship....it's all about tearing a good surgeon down.

How to Research a Doctor in MX

I think my links above are broken, here are the correct ones. http://web2.facs.org/acsdir/public/DetailMember.cfm?CHKDGTS=70304750667 http://web2.facs.org/acsdir/public/DetailMember.cfm?CHKDGTS=18700144761 Just go to the FACS website and see if your Dr is on there as well as the American College of Baiatrics. Cerenatee, I find it extremely unlikely that a Dr is practicing in MX without being a licensed surgeon. Is there any proof of this? Mexico has standards for their Drs and don't let them operate without a license, just like in the US.
