  1. I paid $5500 everything included except airfare. He's done almost 7,000 surgeries and he was the only one I was comfortable with (I would have been comfortable with Dr Aceves but he is 3k more and I'm going to use that 3k for vacation June 1st ) He is a member of the prestigious FACS and American Society of Bariatric Surgeons. He did his residency here in the US, served in the military and also completed a transplant residency before falling in love with bariatrics. His only website is www.wlsclinic.com, I personally would schedule directly with the Dr or his secretary because I'm not big into the whole agency/coordinator drama. I posted a really long review, did you find it? Here is his facs page, I believe that email goes directly to him also. http://web2.facs.org/acsdir/public/DetailMember.cfm?CHKDGTS=70304750667
  2. I'm allowed clear liquids only until the 8th day, so clear liquids wouldn't include tomato soup but you could have apple, grape juice watered down, jello, ect

    Immediate food nausea.

Well the odd thing is that I had already did well with milk twice. This would have been my first sip of my favorite milk that I have drank for years, local farm.......pasteurized but a little cream swirled through. It was definitely trying to come back up the top end. I'm almost 2 weeks post op so I'm terrified of vomiting, otherwise I don't think I could have stopped it. So in short (I'm sure you've all heard worse) I almost threw up on the floor right by my husband. It definitely wasn't overload. I took two small sips and I drink in a cup with ounces printed on it I borrowed from the hospital and I didn't even sip down 1/2 ounce. It was like it tasted that bad to me, out of the blue. I'm so scared that this will happen in public. Eck!

    Oh my!

I'm down 11 more lbs since my surgery 10 days ago! 22 total including my preop diet, but I gained that in fluids after the surgery then lost 22 since the post op gain. I'm rambling. I've lost 11lbs in 10 days would be the short version. Yaaaay! I need to get a ticker but I had to tell someone!

    Oh my!

I lost another 1.8lbs overnight. You guys weren't lying, it really works! Yaaaay! (I'm sure we've all had that "maybe it won't work on me" thought). I've found a ton a tickers and know how to copy and paste the code but I'd really love one with a surgery date.
  8. And it's totally unfair that you are in Naples and I'm in Wheeling! Lol
  9. Oh, I didn't mean to discourage you. I was reading the TJ plastics forum on here and there were soooooo many happy people who had all their work done there

    Dr. Garcia vs. Dr. Aceves?

Don't google Florence, google Oasis of Hope in Tijuana.

    Dr. Garcia vs. Dr. Aceves?

I think a lot of Drs use staples and sutures. Dr Kelly does something using the tissue around the stomach and sutures it over the line of staples so it greatly reduces the risk of a leak. Hearing him explain it is pretty neat, but this thread isn't about him. I don't think staples are expensive enough to save money on them. There is no way the staples alone cost 3,000. Not even near that. If I had to choose between the 2 doctors I almost always go with the one with more experience, which would be Aceves by a long shot. I think there are only 2 in Mexico on par with his experience. Florence is a great hospital btw, full scale with all the things you would find in the states.

  16. And I do mean hospitals available for plastics. I've seen Florence/Oasis and I would be comfortable there but I don't think they do plastics.......
  17. I don't know if the recovery in Tijuana or Wheeling would be worse for an out of towner lol. They both have their points. I guess I'd have to look at the Hospitals available in TJ before I made my decision living where you do. I'll definitely be having my lifts in Wheeling. Wheeling Hospital is a really big metro hospital with 5 large towers and a main building. They do open heart surgery, etc etc. I've just seen people recover from tummy tucks and it looks horrid. Drains everywhere and not being able to stand upright for a week plus. I wanna be close to home although I wouldn't have had my sleeve in Wheeling if they would have paid me. There are some surgeons and some not so good ones around here The plastics is better than anything in Pgh or Columbus (I'm kinda in between) that I can find and super cheap.
  18. Thanks for all the kind words! That's awesome your insurance covered it! I'll PM you Dr Kelly's personal email, I've heard they have very good suggestions for body work as well as who to stay away from. I read on this board once someone ignored the who to stay away from suggestion and suffered greatly. Maybe someone will know what I'm talking about because that was still in my research phase. Just a quick FYI, there is a local plastic surgeon in my area (about 1 hr sw of Pittsburgh) that is amazing. He's done work in a lot of my friends and it was better than work I've seen from big time pgh surgeons. His name is Dr Meuller at Wheeling Hospital. He specializes in abdominoplasty and skin lifts. His prices are very good, not any more than TJ surgeons but of course he would require an in person consult and could take as long as 3 months to schedule the surgery. He's awesome, I've worked with him on a professional level also way back in the day. I'm going to get veneers at the dentist Cecy suggests a year from my surgery. It's about 1/3 of the price of anything here I can find.

Tijuana, VSG, DR Kelly and Me

My best friend is having it May 16th, her name is Christie and you'll likely cross paths! I will certainly say a prayer! If you are at peace God will take care of you every step of the way.
  20. Ok, I have a special situation. I'm 9 days preop and Sunday night my son was admitted for an emergency appendectomy. I've been at the hospital now 3 days with nothing but apple and grape juice. If I see any more juice I'm going to throw it through the window (not really). Yesterday I was allowed to start milk a little at a time. Today it went fine also. Tomorrow I'm allowed Protein shakes. I am physically hungry and was wondering if I'm allowed to have a pediatric size ice cream. I know it's not an ok food, but it's milk and sugar. Should I just tough it out til I can get home and get my protein tomorrow? Can I eat this without injury to my pouch? I just need another 150 cals and need a bridge. I'll never eat ice cream again (blech, but it sounds better than more apple juice).

There was recently a thread about a "certain" Dr being on drugs without a bit of proof that was not removed.
