  1. I'm posting on this board because everytime I post a question on the Post-op board, it never gets answered LOL So, I'm hoping someone post-op reads this and can help... I'm trying to figure out which Vitamins to take. I know I need the multi and the Calcium. Were there any others you found you needed? And are chewables okay to take in the beginning or does it have to be liquid? Thanks in advance
  2. Okay, I am beginning to freak out! LOL My surgery is 2 weeks away and I keep thinking about everything...all of it. I see the lists of foods I can and cant have just after surgery, I hear about the hair loss and vomiting and such, and it just scares me. I know for long term this is what would be best. I'm trying not to let my fears stop me from doing this because I know it's the right thing to do... Is anyone else going through the same thing?

    Getting scared!

Thank you everyone!! It is helpful to see that everyone feels the same, and the outcome ends up good. I can do this!
  4. Hi everyone I'm having the surgery on June 10th. I've heard from a couple people I know that their taste actually changed after the procedure? Have any of you experienced this? If so, what do you eat that you didn't before or do you not eat anymore? I wouldn't mind not wanting chocolate as much as I do now LOL

    Outpatient?

He said I would go home the same day, but if I wanted to stay or if there were any issues, there was a place for me to stay. He has a really good rep and I've known 2 people who had him and both had good experiences. One of them had the surgery at night so he had to stay overnight. The other had other health issues going on too, so she had to stay to be monitored also. *Knock on wood* I am okay otherwise, so it looks like I can do the outpatient thing. It's good to see some of you did go home the same day and did okay
  6. My surgeon says my surgery is going to be outpatient. Has anyone else had this? I keep reading people stay at least 24 hours, so I'm confused. I know he's a very well respected and advised surgeon in our area for this, and I know two people who had him too. Is that something I should be concerned about though? I'm really nervous as it is...

    Outpatient?

Thanks everyone! He has his own clinic where he performs the surgeries (which is in the medical center of the hospital). He said there is a recovery area too if we wanted to use it. He is a well respected doctor, been on the news, many referrals, etc...so, maybe it's just being a low risk patient? I don't know. I will definately ask him next time. My insurance isn't covering any of this (bariatric surgery is excluded completely...stupid insurance), so I'm sure staying longer would be even more expensive. But, we will see... It is nice to see there are others who do outpatient as well! I will keep everyone posted
  8. That's awesome! Also an inspiration and something I needed to read right now. I've got my date coming up (June 10th), and I keep getting scared and asking myself, "Do I REALLY need this?" LOL I'm 5'3 and 235(ish) lbs. I'm in a size 18/20 or so too. Did you have any complications after? Were you scared or second guessing yourself before? LOL
  9. It looks like I'm going in on June 10th! I'm so excited and so nervous!! I talked to the nutritionist today and she was going over all the foods and such with me. All I could think to myself is "I really hope I can do this!" LOL Any tips I could use? She mentioned starting the "food" thing early. Like cut out one meal for a Protein drink...then two meals...then eventually down to three just so it's not such a shock. Any good and tasty chocolate Protein drinks you recommend? OH! And has anyone had any problems with hair loss after surgery? Sorry for all the questions

    Surgery date is set!

Thanks Christina! Any advice is helpful

    cardiac clearance

I had it done too. They did a stress test on the treadmill, and an echo on my heart. They just want to be sure your heart can handle the stress while under anesthesia. Best of luck, I'm sure it will be fine
  12. I'm most likely going to have my surgery the second week of June. My cousin has her wedding on June 23rd....do you think I'll be able to make it? Someone I know had it done and two weeks later he was out, going back to school, walking around, etc. I hear different things from different people. What's "typical" for healing with this surgery?

    "Allowed" Foods?

Hi everyone! I'm curious about the foods we can and can't eat. I know for a while it's really restricted, and I know carbonation is a no no....and I heard certain fats can make you sick. Is there anything else we can't have?

    "Allowed" Foods?

    Great! Good to know!

    "Allowed" Foods?

Thank you both for your replies! Apelt001, That's is amazing you're down 68 lbs in 12 weeks! Congratulations! Also nice to have a "steel sleeve" lol I can see how that can be a blessing and a curse. But, it must be nice being able to know you can eat anything without it making you sick....and you are in control of what you actually eat. I just kept hearing so many different things about what we can and can't eat, I wasn't sure. Thanks for the input
  17. Just ordered it on Kindle Great info! Thanks!
  18. Yeah I think the emotional and mental toward the food is the biggest hurdle. I'm planning on getting back to a therapist soon to get back into these issues again. I'm seeing a nutritionist right now who has helped a bunch, and is also really good at helping with the emotional part. But, therapy I think is a must as well. That is one of my fears...that I only loose say 30 lbs after surgery...and it comes back. But...I would guess that is normal LOL
  19. Hi everyone! I'm shooting to get my surgery the beginning of June. I'm excited...but I'm also nervous because I know this is a huge deal. I was wondering if any of you had second thoughts once you decided to do this? And then after you went through with it...how is it for you now? Thanks Laura
  20. Not mean at all I don't know if I would mind not being hungry. I can't even imagine what it's like NOT to be hungry LOL So I don't know...maybe I would. I guess I'll cross that bridge when I get there
  21. Thank you all for the great info!! Annette, Good to hear about the mental state of mind just after. It does seem people get depressed immediately after, but most seem to love it shortly later... Skinny9608, I think it's great you were able to overcome that and look back at it so positively I'm also the type of person who would weight myself and wonder, "Why isn't there more coming off?!" LOL So, it's good to know that it is a slow and steady progress...but...I guess the difference with having the surgery vs just a diet, is that you WILL loose. You really can't help it when you're stomach is that small, right? hehe I'm hoping I don't crave sugars and carbs like I do now, but I guess we will see. I have a friend who had it done about 3 weeks ago, and he was saying how he doesn't even crave what he used to. So, I guess everyone is different in that regard. But, learning how to eat...and changing the mental and emotional aspect of food is definitely going to be the hardest part I think.
  22. That's great! Yeah, anesthesia is scary in itself. I'll keep my anti-depressants close by after surgery LOL
  23. my3sons, That's great! I love the success stories and hearing how happy people are after I can't wait!
  24. Yeah I can relate to a lot of what you said! Especially the weight watchers thing. I do lose on WW, but it's never much and then it stops...then the vicious yo-yo dieting cycle starts again. So, I think this even may be safer then always going on diet after diet. Good to know the majority of people are happy they did it too!
  25. That's awesome!! So good to hear I think I'm more excited then anything...but of course, I think about how much my life will change after (like having kids LOL) and its scary. I am excited to feel better though!
