Anyone else with blood related problems?
Belize replied to NewAshes's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had clotting issues for almost a decade and I have survived a PE to boot. I was incredibly scared when I had a debulking surger for cancer almost 4 years ago. But there are things your surgeonis likely to do to prevent any problems: you may get an IVC filter which is placed in the main vein leading to the heart. Typically a radiologist will do his before surgery. You will probably have leg compressors placed on you legs before you are wheeled to recovery. This keeps the blood circulation . You might be on lovinox or arixtra which are subcutaneous injected blood thinners. I was on the shots for over a year and know on warfin for past two years. I have to stop blood thinners 6 days prior to surgery but will take heparin shots for a week after. I know how this adds to being scared but your surgeon will know how best to proceed. Make sure you get all your hemo records to the surgeon. Hope it works out -

Surgery tomorrow! Still wondering if I could do this myself!

When I started looking into all of this I was motivated by my children and family. Selfishly I wanted to be there for the graduations and weddings. I didn't want to miss seeing them grow up. But this journey has taught me that this decision is for me and for them. For me - I get to see grandchildren, attend my daughters wedding and spend time loving and laughing with them. I get to live a life i have only dared to dream. a life filled with self confidence, self love, and actualization of who i was intended to be. But I came to realize this is for them too. How could I leave them without a mother? How could they move beyond knowing I didn't do everything I could to stay with them. I 've head you need to do this for yourself first. And that may be true but if it is my children aren't far behind. Tough decisions often have glorious outcomes. Stay strong and I hope it all went well. -

Sabrina - don't worry you can do this!!!!! Make sure you get in protein every 4 hours MAX. In between eat jello, have a glass of skim milk. just keep track of protein and calories. i am 8 days in on the full liquid diet and i am eating around 800 calories and 70-80 grams protein. Just an aside, I went to my favorite Chinese restaurant. I have always been crazy for sizzling rice soup. I ask for 2large containers of Broth only. The broth is incredible flavorful. Since it is preop and volume doesn't matter I can have 2cups for 50 calories, . You can do the same thing with any restaurant that serves pho -the beef broth that is the foundation of pho is made with veggies, beef, and marrow. Yum yum... -
