So I've decided that I'm ready to start amping up my work outs. I'm almost 8 weeks post op, and I'm feeling like I'm full of tons of energy. Although I've worked out before and have played sports most of my life I'm really thinking that having a personal trainer will kick my ass into gear. I know that if I work out just on my own I won't push myself as hard as I should. I've never had a personal trainer before, and I've had a few suggestions from different friends and met with two different trainers. There is one that I'm leaning towards, she seems peppy but I worry she might not be firm enough with me. The second has the personality of a wet mop, but from client testimonials seems to get great results. For those of you who have a personal trainer now, or have in the past what should I be looking for? Also I keep getting quotes for between $50-70/hr as the going rate for a trainer, I live in Vancouver, BC, does this seem like the going rate? Any insight would be great!

I had my surgery 8 week ago and I could not be more happy with the treatment I received from Dr. Aceves and his staff. I blogged about my experience here if you want to take a read. http://rockpaperthinner.com/2013/06/13/the-play-by-play-to-end-all-play-by-plays/ -

Leaving for Mexicali Tomorrow, Am I Missing Anything?

I'm all packed to leave for my Surgery with Dr. Aceves, I'm a frequent traveler but I'm so excited I'm worried I might have forgotten something. Aside from the obvious passport, ticket, credit cards and phone charger, does it sound like I'm missing anything? I've packed: -gas x strips -four different kinds of lip balm/chapstick (I've heard it's necessary and I like options! -toiletries -two pairs of shorts, two tops -a pair of pjs -undergarments -a book -headphones I'm there until Friday and I'm attempting to pack light. -

Leaving for Mexicali Tomorrow, Am I Missing Anything?

I didn't want to start a whole new thread, but I just wanted to let everyone know that my surgery went amazingly well. Everything I researched about Dr. Aceves was accurate. He was amazing, the staff at Almater is fantastic. I did a really detailed post on my blog if anyone is interested on how it went. Down 17.2 lbs since last Tuesday, and I know it's kind of early to say but it's easily the smartest decision I've ever made. Thanks for all your support! -

Ordering Syntrax Nectar in Canada
Rockpaperthinner posted a topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
So I'm in Vancouver, Canada and I'm trying to find out if there are any Canadians who have had success ordering Syntrax nectar in Canada. I've ordered the sampler pack from netrition.com, the cost of shipping was unreasonable but I caved, and the shipping time was much longer than I had anticipated. I've found thelowcarbgrocery.com, but they only have a select amount of flavors, and the base price is nearly double what I've found on U.S. sites. Pretty much I'm wanting to know if you've found somewhere with a full range of the flavors that ships to Canada, and if you could let me know if the shipping costs were reasonable or not. Thanks! -

I think I just replied to your post on the Canadian board, asking you to let me know if you find a good doctor! Mine is sooooo anti-Mexico, and anti-sleeve in general. I have a good endocrinologist who is really positive, but I'm still looking for a PCP who is not negative. I do quite a bit of shopping in Bellingham as well, and was thinking about going that route if all else fails. What's the cost like to have a P.O. box down there? Do you have to claim it when you come back through the border or is it like groceries where they don't make you pay duty? -
Any other Canadians out there?

If you find one let me know! I'm in Surrey and my current doctor is not too thrilled with me going to Mexico in few weeks either. Definitely looking for a doctor willing to do proper follow-up care without being judgemental. -
Curiosity on your appearance
Rockpaperthinner replied to joannao74's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I've thought the same thing, so much so that I have to talk myself out of thinking it. I haven't been thin...ever. And I haven't been at a healthy weight since I was like 7 or so. It's impossible for me to imagine what I'll look like thinner, but I'm excited to find out. -

Patients of Dr. Aceves
Rockpaperthinner replied to socklessinnyc's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Hi there! I have my surgery scheduled for June 4th with Dr. Aceves! The process was simple. I filled out the questionaire and was contacted back by Nina, his patient coordinator. She informed me of pricing and the options available. She also told me when they were scheduling for. When I decided I wanted to proceed I was sent more pre-op questions, at which point I was cleared for surgery. To be able to confirm the date I had to pay my $500 deposit. I didn't have to send over any medical records but I did have blood work done as well as a physical beforehand just in case (I have a very supportive GP), but they weren't requested. Nina is great, she gets back to you really quickly and has answered every question I've had. Hope that helps! -

No more lurking, newbie intro!
Rockpaperthinner posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Hi everyone! I've been lurking around for a while, reading and absorbing as much info as I can! My name is Lisa, I'm 26 and I live in Vancouver, BC. I'm having my surgery on June 4th with Dr. Aceves. I'm excited and looking forward to this journey. I have PCOS, insulin resistance and hypothyroidism. Aside from that there is diabetes and hypertension in my family history. I've struggled with my weight since I hit puberty and I haven't been able to keep it off since. I'm half white and half Filipino and grew up in the prairie city of Winnipeg. I have a really close relationship with my Dad and he has been super supportive and is coming with me. I've decided to start a blog to document this journey. Part of the reason I'm blogging is so my friends can read it, they're all being really supportive, but I'm also blogging so that I have something that I can look back at along the way that shows me how far I've come. I have a few questions: for those of you who flew, how was the back? Anything to do/avoid during or before the flight? if any of you suffer from PCOS, have you noticed a considerable difference in the symptoms? aside from walking, what was the first type of excerise you started with post surgery? anyone else heading down the same time as me? are you blogging about your experiences as well? I've been watching youtube vlogs and reading blogs non stop, and would love more reading material! -
