a list of things to bring?
getlownurse replied to katie75009's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Whoop whoop dr Ortiz is awesome! I was sleeved by Lopez and Ortiz. My phone didn't work in Mexico, so think about that. I used my iPad constantly for tv and FaceTime/Skype calls. They let you change out of your gown prettysoonafter surgery there. So sweatpants or loose pants or shorts are good. Something with pockets so you can put your drain in there. A big t shirt. Something comfortable to wear out for when Abraham and Ricardo take you out n the town. Bring some cash to tip people and if you want souvenirs. Flip flops or slippers. Last but not least, hemorrhoid cream if you have butt issues lol. I don't know how else to put it. There's some diareah that comes with it all... -
I learned from my days in the military. We ALL wore compression shorts. I'll never go without them now.

Someone posted an egg casserole muffin recipe recently. I can't remember the specifics, but it was eggs, cheese, turkey sausage and some other stuff like tomatoes all mixed together. Then cooked in cupcake tins so you have individual ones and you can grab one to take with you.

how to know when you're full?
getlownurse replied to nanabanana's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ha I get the runny nose . That tells me I need to stop. If I have another bite or two, then I feel food sitting in my neck/chest area. -
June sleevers, what are you eating?
getlownurse replied to getlownurse's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am not getting the proteins in, but I do not drink shakes. I average abut 40g protein. If I could stomach just ne shake, I would meet my goal. But no thanks. -
Mexican wrestling? That would have been awesome.

The goal weight number
getlownurse replied to Fiddleman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My dr did not discuss a goal weight. I wouldn't have cared anyway, I know my goal weight. As a teenager, I was steadily a certain weight and it was perfect, except that I had very few curves. My goal weight is 10 pounds over that teenage weight, with thoughts that those extra ten pounds will be in my hips and bewbs. We will see. Fiddleman, a note about your 10 lbs. I was in the military and watched many incredibly fit men have to get taped (aka measuring the width of neck and stomach ratio) because their bmi suggested they were overweight. If their taped measurements met a certain criteria, they were considered at ideal weight, not overweight. It's really too much for me to get in depth about since I'm typing on my iPad, however it's something you may be interested in looking info up about. It's your exact situation. Great job and keep doing what you do. -
I only have experience with mi doctor. Staff was amazing- nurses, X-ray tech, intake, transportation (wheelchair guy)... They were all great. The hospital itself was nice. It wasn't as beautiful as some of the pristine ones I've been in here in Florida, but it was nice in its own right. They had all of the equipment you see in US hospitals. The only negative I have to say is that the night nurses didn't make regular rounds like they do here in the states. I'm not sure if that is a mi doctor thing or a Mexico thing though. Good luck.

What's your favorite veggie and how do you prep it?
getlownurse replied to Reigo's topic in Food and Nutrition
Mmmmmmmmm edamame! I put a ton of sea salt on it though. -
I was sleeved the 19th and I've already been swimming several times and kitesurfing once. Obviously, follow doctors orders yadda yadda but that's what I've done and all is well. If it makes a difference, I was on antibiotics for ten days post surgery and my incisions were mostly healed up.

Sleeve + 30th Birthday = .....?
getlownurse replied to MsJones83's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, this was a problem for me. Pre sleeve, I could turn anything into an event just so I could eat my face off. So yesterday, the 4th of July, I ate as normal, but I had a red, white, and blue ice pop. I'm an Iraqi and Afg war vet, so this is a holiday I'm all for. I suppose my response is to have a bite or two of cake, walk around with some ice cream in your bowl, whatever. But just because you're socializing and having fun doesn't mean you have to pig out. Happy birthday and good luck -
Let's Check In November 2012 Sleevers!
getlownurse replied to timetobefree's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
While you do look amazing, I'm more excited about the wheel! Haha. Good job -
I started them like 10 days out, no issues here. I put cheese on top and sometimes add salsa verde, not that that matters.

June sleevers, what are you eating?
getlownurse replied to getlownurse's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks for the recipe! I was wondering too . I eat my hummus on a spoon, usually, although I've had it on pita bread- I ate VERY little of the bread and chewed it to death. I'm gonna try that dip! -
June sleevers, what are you eating?
getlownurse replied to getlownurse's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved June 19. I'm eating soups, yogurts, hummus, tuna, canned chicken, eggs, avocado/guacamole. My fat ass had the tiniest bite of my husbands burger the other day. Keep us updated when you all level up to new foods. Keep truckin! -
Marriot popcicles!
getlownurse replied to thetattooedlady's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
When I was there, room service brought me two different favors of Popsicles. An orange colored one that was good. Then a purple colored one that was possibly the worst thing I've ever tasted. Unfortunately, I only got the good one once. -
Crystal light has like zero sugar, right? Mio too. You could drink tea with honey.

Oh and we do the cauliflower in place of mashed potatoes too. I'm a southern girl and I love me some mashed potatoes. Never thought the cauliflower would measure up, but wow, it really does. Good, good stuff.
