Jackie, VERY IMPRESSIVE!! WHAT a GREAT DAy you had! Good work! That Body Bugg sounds really cool! I'm watching a few on eBay. Don't know if it'd be practical for me because I'm not getting much exercise now and when I get south it'll be water exercise. But I LOVE techy gadgets like that! Janet, I momentarily forgot what it's like to shop in Coachella Valley! Yes, that drives me crazy when people open up packages and scatter the contents. Open packages of socks, underwear, etc. I think you're right about Target & Mervyn's. Well, I suppose it's time to get dressed and go in the house! I'm not a morning person and it takes me a few hours to get in gear in the morning!
-
Janet, Wow!! You DID shop! Good job! I haven't been in a Mervyn's in a long time but what you described doesn't sound like the norm for their stores. They have been in financial trouble for several years and closed all their stores in WA state and I seem to remember they closed almost all the stores in OK when we were living there. Kept one open in Tulsa which was 2 hours away from where we lived. They'll probably go bankrupt sooner or later. If they're not doing a good job of maintaining their stores people will stop shopping there Using DH computer since I'm outside in the RV and mine is inside my son's house! We're parked out in front. I'm finding not all of his keyboard keys work! I've been bugging him to get a new laptop. I didn't know about these sluggish keys! I don't hate smokers, but I do bug DH all the time to quit! He's down to about 3 a day. Not bad. I just hated it when he sneaked them behind my back so I like this new arrangement! He has me keep his pack so he's not tempted to smoke more. He just went off to the airport with our son again and I don't think he even had his morning one before he left! I got rid of a bunch of clothes just before we left on our trip. Last year I got rid of a BIG bunch of clothes and probably shoiuld have kept some of them because they were smaller!! And some of them I'd never worn. But we were getting ready to move from OK to WA so we were purging!
-
A good Thanksgiving dinner....turkey, fresh cranberries, green beans.
-
That's impressive! Wow!! Did you go shopping today?? I took new measurements a couple of weeks ago, too. A couple of inches here, there and everywhere, but the most awesome was 6" in the hips. My shoulders have shrunk! I can tell because all my sleeves are too long! My favorite nightgown is like a tent. It's going to fall off my shouldes soon. In fact, I have about three like that. I should get rid of them and then I could buy a new one! I need some new bras but I HATE trying them on. I'd just buy one size smaller except the ones I have are so old you can no longer read the size on the tags and I can't remember what size they are!!
-
I can't believe it!! I'm playing "where'd my post go" again!!! I had this long reply composed and I don't know what happened but all of a sudden it was gone!! Now I have to start all over and it was SO GOOD!! So... I was giggling reading the morning posts... Janet, your night time eating... midnight raids, give me a chuckle! I'm so stingy about my sleep, I hate to even get up to go to the bathroom for fear I won't be able to get back to sleep! I LOVE my sleep too much to get up to eat, but I understand. Our youngest son used to do that sometimes. Food addiction is a real bitch! I had this intersting encounter with myself today... the angel/devil thing. Our son lives on what used to be Moffett Field. No more military base.... NASA/Ames Research. But, there is government housing, and there is still a BX, commissary, BX annex, McDonald's and a few other amentities for us military folks. So today, after riding my scooter off base to granddaughter's soccer game, when I got back, I decided I'd go to the commissary and pick up a few things. I wanted some sharp cheddar cheese to go with that wonderful smoked salmon/tuna I bought in OR earlier in the week. So, on the way over there I'm having this conversation with myself... wonder what I can buy (sneak) at the commissary that I can eat on the way home. NO, what are you thinking?? You're not even hungry!! You just ate two hours ago. Hmmm, maybe I could stop at McDonald's on the way back.. get myself one of those chicken wrap snacks. NO, YOU JUST ATE TWO HOURS AGO!! I mean, I wasn't even hungry and I'm plotting and planning what I can buy to eat on the way back because I'm alone and no one will know! How stupid!! Why do we do these things??? :faint: FOOD ADDICTION, that's why!! How disgusting! How annoying! We want to eat when we're not even hungry! So I got over that and came home and when it was THREE hours, I had some beef jerky and a string cheese and one rye krisp cracker! I did sneak something, though. My DH and I have this "deal". He's the food cop, but I get to say when he can have a cigarette. So he decides to pour me a little (and I DO mean a LITTLE) wine before he goes out for an agreed upon afternoon smoke. So as soon as he's out the door, I'm on my way to the kitchen to fill up my glass!! It IS a VERY SMALL glass that probably holds only 4 ounces, so I don't feel too guilty about it, but I did sneak it! And>>> I AM back online for a few days because our son has cable internet and he gave us his network key so we both could get our laptops online on his network. Heeheehee... I'm hangin' out here for a few days! At least, when we're not busy with our son and his family. He & DH went flying this morning while we were gone to the soccer game. Son has a 1947 Cessna that he's trying to sell. He's been building a small plane for about 12 years now, I think, and it's almost done, so time to sell the old Cessna. They had a great time. Oh, friends we were caravanning with down to Palm Springs chickened out and headed back north!! We thought we slowed down the pace enough for them... only 120-140 miles per day, stopping early, taking time for sightseeing. But, the husband is almost 80 and just too tense for driving an RV on the freeway. They decided to bail out about 50 miles north of San Francisco and head back to WA. We will miss them. It was fun having company as we traveled.

A place for bandsters in their 60's

Glad to be of help, Carol. Take a seat cushion with you to the meeting. That might help a little. I can't sit long in hard folding chairs, either. My legs and knees start hurting and I get "twitchy", but, like you said... get up now and then. Do what you need to to make it through it. You won't be sorry because you'll get lots of good info. Often they have people at those meetings who have had the surgery that will share a little about their experience. And you will have an opportunity to ask questions. I can understand why they want you to be there in person. It'll be okay. You can do it. I think it's also a test of your committment. Those three hours won't be the only discomfort you'll have to go through, but it will be worth it. I saw two different dieticians and they were both excellent. They had good suggestions for supplements to take after surgery, showed me what 1/2 cup serving looks like, had examples... empty containers... of acceptable foods...different kinds of yogurt, soups, etc to show me. It was very beneficial. -

My doctor required one pre-op and one post-op visit with their dietician. She gave me a print out detailing what I could have and how much. Each doctor's food plan is a little different, but they'll tell you very specifically what you can have. I have not vomited at all, or pb-ed or slimed or anything. I'm very careful not to push what i can eat. I quit when I start feeling full because I also HATE to vomit and avoid it at all cost!! -
Uh Oh!! Janet is going to be ON YOUR CASE!! :yell: :yell: :nono: :yell: :decision: :decision: :decision: :decision: Tomorrow is a NEW DAY!! Back to basics, girl! :) :)

Good Morning/Afternoon, #7's! Beautiful sunny, but chilly morning here in PNW. We're going to go see the BEE MOVIE in Coos Bay OR today. Looking forward to that. Last week DH & I went to see "Dan in Real Life" and LOVED it!! Good movie! Have tried several times to do that multiquote thing and can't figure it out. Can you tell me how to do that, Janet?? You are doing great! I am happy to have some baggy clothes, too, and found yesterday that I can already fit in to some of the things I packed in the RV for "later". Yesterday I wore a Panama Canal t-shirt I bought on a cruise last year and never wore! And I have one from Jamaica that fits now, too! Found a pair of pants, new ones, that I can wear, also. It's great! Guess what my sister made for breakfast???? Cinnamon rolls!! They were on the table staring at me when I came in from the RV!! DH had fixed me an eggbeaters omelet before I came in, so it's not like I didn't have anything to eat. DH gave me a tiny sliver of his that couldn't even qualify as a "BITE", but gave me a taste, anyway. She's fixing meat loaf for dinner, so I can live with that. But, anyone else finding that things that are soft texture like that, the band doesn't care!!?? My restriction seems to be greatly influenced by the texture of the food I'm eating. Congrats, again, on the NSV's 7's! :ranger: :kiss2:

:welcomeB: :welcome2: Hi, Carol! Congrats on your band date. I had my surgery at Virginia Mason in Seattle and go to Dr. Hunter at the Fed Way clinic. I know they have just started support group meetings there at that facility. They're led by the nurse practitioner, Kat Redman. You could call her and see if they care if you attend even though you're not one of their patients. I think there may be other support group meetings in that area, too. I live in Lake Stevens, so I don't drive way down there for support group. I attend one in Monroe, but it's very small and sometimes no one shows up!! I'm looking for something more active, but right now we're gone for the winter. I'm going to go to a group down in Palm Springs this winter. Good to have you on this thread. I subscribe to quite a few. As you explore this site, you'll find some that are age specific, BMI specific, threads for folks banded in specific months... you may find one for Feb 2008, or if you start one, well... like they say, "if you build it, they will come"!!

A thread for super-sized bandsters - starting BMI over 50?
phyllser replied to Wheetsin's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Good Sunday Morning, Ladies! At least, it's Sunday morning here on the west coast. I can certainly relate to the things you are expressing regarding being stalled! I've played with the same three pounds for two weeks now. I lost 10 lb. in 12 days, then gained 3 lb. back and gone up and down with those 3 lb for two weeks! I am so much wanting to get to the -50 lb mark and just can't seem to make it! I think it's quite normal to go through these "plateau" times, though, so I'm trying to be patient with myself and encourage you to do the same. We're in the process of changing eating habits that are LONG established. I didn't have a problem with Halloween candy this week, but some former neighbors brought their two little ones over for "Trick or Treat" and brought us a small bag of homemade chocolate chip cookies!! I had a few of those and I hadn't had a whole cookie in 4-5 months! It does start a chain reaction when you have JUST ONE!! I couldn't leave them alone until they were gone. Good thing there were only six of them and DH did eat a couple of them. Then we got to my sister's. We are RVing and on our way to sunny CA for the winter. Guess what her DH brought home from work that night??? A little container of chocolate cake and chocolate chip cookies!!! I had ONE HALF of one cookie! Then today my sister made cinnamon rolls for breakfast! Fortunately, DH had fixed me an eggbeaters omelet out in the RV before we came in the house. So I only had a really tiny sliver of a roll. I mean it didn't even qualify as a BITE!! I don't have trouble with the sweets if they're not staring me in the face. So....it's a HEAD battle, isn't it???!!! The band is great but the restriction isn't always there for me.. it seems to be as sporadic as my weight loss! Sometimes it wonderfully keeps me in check, but other times it seems to abandon me. I've had three fills, so it should be good. But it isn't always! Texture of the food I'm eating seems to matter a LOT. Softer things go down easy.... eggs, for example. Oh, well, that's enough of my rambling. I'm not sure that's going to help anyone, but at least you know, here's another one struggling but still plugging along and determined to be successful. -

Just my 2 cents, but if I were you I'd take the pain med at least at bedtime so you get a good night's rest. Important for healing, especially if you want to go back to work that soon. Congrats! Sounds like you're doing great! -

You should have better restriction after your 2nd fill. I know I did. I've had my 3rd now, last Monday, but it almost seems like no better than after the 2nd. I almost wish they'd put in a little more than 1cc the 3rd time. But I'm doing okay. Just a little stalled on my weight loss right now but it'll pick up. -

Yeah, but now I'm addicted to the scale, too!! I'm struggling with these same stupid 3 lb. for the last two weeks. My lowest weight was two weeks ago and I'm having such a struggle getting back to it. Up, down, up, down! At my sister's now & we're going to cook trout for dinner, maybe have 1/2 baked potato & some veggies. We're going to be "on the road" for the next four weeks so I HAVE TO make good food choices!! We are so much looking forward to warmer temperatures!!

How is weight loss for people over 50?

Hi, My weight loss is so sporadic! It's frustrating! I had my 3rd fill last Monday and it's almost like I had more restriction after the 2nd than I do since the 3rd.. which of course makes no sense. I had 3cc in there and they put in 1cc more. After the 2nd fill I lost 10 lb. in 12 days. Then I gained three back and I've been playing with those 3 lb for the last two weeks. I thought after my fill on Monday I'd start losing again. Of course, we're on the road in our RV now and that's more of a challenge, and I retain water on the days when I'm just sitting in the RV riding all day. But, I also don't eat as well as I do at home. Like yesterday I had a can of chicken/rice soup for lunch. Not enough protein, too many carbs, too much sodium. Got to my sister's in the afternoon & we all went out for Mexican! I had a seafood Chimichanga type thing and just ate some of the insides, but also some of the rice and beans and 4-5 chips w/salsa. So, not too bad. But I also had access to cookies yesterday and ate about 3 small chocolate chip cookies over the course of the day after not one whole cookie in 4 months! So, no more sweets and I must be more diligent about my food choices even though we are away from home because it's going to be a LOOOONNNGGG winter!!<!-- google_ad_section_end --><!-- / message --><!-- sig --> __________________ <!-- google_ad_section_start(weight=ignore) --> -

Been trying to get on my sister's wireless network all afternoon. finally got the password from one of her son's. Wow! Marcy! 7 lb. is great! You're definitely in the lead on our Thanksgiving Challenge! I'm losing very slowly right now. Don't know if I'm going to make that 10 lb. loss! Janet, you are really impressive with that exercise! I can't wait to get down there and back to water aerobics. We're in OR now and it's still cold!
-
Hi, All! We're stopped for the night a little south of Portland OR. We're right behind a huge outlet mall so went shopping for a little while. No clothes!! Too many already in the RV. Weather was great today. No rain, no fog, sunny most of the day. Hope the weekend goes well. We're stopping to visit one of my sisters. Hopefully, she understands my dietary restrictions and I won't have to fight her off. DH will help me with that. After the weekend, we're traveling south down the OR coast towards San Francisco. You're all doing great! Back on the wagon! I bought Tootsie Pops for Halloween and left all that were left at our daughter's! DH fixed me tuna and a couple rye crisp crackers for lunch, broiled lamb chop for dinner with broccoli and a real tiny baked potato. We'll see what the scale does. Legs are swollen. I retain water when we're driving all day. Watch that wine, Janet!! I had about 4 oz. this afternoon.

Well, DH is on his way back home to get me and the cat and take us to the RV (at our daughter's). We take off for the winter bright and early tomorrow morning. You gals could help me a lot while we're on the road if you would PM me with your Thanksgiving Challenge progress. Then I don't have to take the time to search through the thread for your posts. I can get them all from my inbox, write them down and get them online a lot easier. Thanks... I appreciate that. I'll be getting online whenever I can by cell phone or borrowed Wi-Fi.
