A thread for super-sized bandsters - starting BMI over 50?
phyllser replied to Wheetsin's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
A few more suggestions for your evening cravings: rye crisp crackers, only 25 calories for a pretty good sized cracker. Sometimes I spread a little humus on top... comes in lots of different flavors, or have a thin slice of cheese with it, or maybe a little beef/turkey/ham jerky. Smoked fish... salmon, tuna, etc. is expensive, but a little bit goes a long way and it's healthy and low cal. -

Thanks for sharing that. Wow!! We're having oven roasted Yukons instead of mashed, so no gravy to worry about either! Everything organic, but maybe not low cal! Dinner is tomorrow because our main "cook" has to get his wife back to WA in time for work Friday morning. -

Yeah, it's been really quiet here lately! Guess everyone is busy with the holidays... Thanksgiving week. I'm holding steady, but not really losing right now. Was able to do some water exercise this week and maybe that will help. Happy Thanksgiving, All! -
Good Luck to you, James. Dr. Hunter is my doctor, too. I really like him and his staff.

I'm so sorry for what you went through. Really, most of the time mine is a peach. He does all the cooking, even the dishes, etc. Being a control freak, he thinks he's the only one who can do things the "right way"! So I just smile and let him! He doesn't dust and do bathrooms... YET!! Also, I tend to just VENT when I'm fed up with him, so you guys hear it all! I don't do well with keeping things to myself! And he doesn't have as much control as he thinks he has!! Like I said, if he only gives me a half glass of wine, I wait until he's not looking and go get my other half!! -
So sorry!! The Costco story made me smile!! After three fills, have yet to PB, but have had some samples at Costco that I shouldn't have!!

But I've spent 43 years "training" him!! He's not so bad. He was having a bad day yesterday.. Had to do with a son who is always calling us when he gets in a jam and wants money. So then I figured, since he was already mad, it was a good time to fess up about the shoes and that made it worse. He's okay today! -

How is weight loss for people over 50?

Nah, don't cancel!! Just go. You'll enjoy it. I've ordered TONS of clothes from WW.... from back when they were Lane Bryant until recently. Clothes pretty much run true to size. I get their catalogs & there's a size chart inside, so there's probably one online, too. But, true confessions, frankly I buy a lot of clothes at Wal-Mart! Everyday type stuff, especially tops. I really like Lands End and you can get them at Sears now but they don't always have a lot of the plus sizes and I need a 2X or 3X. I'm able to wear a lot of 2X now. I recently found 3-4 Lands End things ON SALE at Sears, really cheap. Just take comfy stuff and a couple of dressier things. I've been on lots of cruises and the last one, I didn't even take a dress, just nice slacks and a couple of dressy tops. It was fine, even on formal nights. There are still some who dress up in tuxedos & evening gowns, but the majority keep it somewhat simpler. Not like 10 years or so ago. So, don't go crazy buying a lot of new clothes. -

Yeah, DH is really bugging me lately. He's gotten a little better but I always see him checking out what I'm eating. And when I ask for my afternoon glass of wine I'm lucky if he gives me 1/2 glass. I usually just wait until he's busy doing something else and go fill it up! He makes me use these very small glasses and then gives me 1/2. It's really irritating. I'm mad at him today. Can you tell?? He's been a real pill all day... crabby and mean. So since he was already being a jerk, I decided it would be a good day to tell him I bought a new pair of shoes the other day. Since he was already in that mood, might as well give him something to really sulk about. I had them hidden in the bottom of my closet in the RV but I kept trying to figure out how I would ever be able to wear them if I didn't let him know I bought them!! He hates when I buy shoes or purses. -

I went to a seminar in Palm Springs last winter but then had to find a doctor in WA that took Medicare and the whole "Center of Excellence" thing, so my first appointment with the surgeon was the beginning of May and surgery was July 20. -
That's a great idea, Nichole! Count me in, too! We'll be settled at our RV park by then & I can be doing Water aerobics. Your challenge will be a great incentive to get out there and do it on those chilly mornings when I want to stay in front of the TV wrapped up in my blanky!

Carol, Glad you got through all that okay. I know you weren't looking forward to it. Yes, Medicare was a breeze for me. Few requirements and not too many hoops to jump. This is great... you're on your way. Good idea.. having the meat/fish cut in the right portions. I eat fish ANY TIME of the day! DH has been making me eggbeaters omelets with a little smoked salmon/tuna and cheese every day! ME, TOO!! Down with bras!! Glad to hear you're doing so well PCGIRL!! Keep up the good work! -

Hey! Why are you apologizing!?? We need to hear stuff like that! Keeps us all going!! That is GREAT!!! Wonderful news! Encouraging & supporting each other is what this site is all about! I love it! -
Where are the rest of you?? I see a couple of you are online. Wonder why we haven't heard from Dini in so long. Our "regulars" just aren't around very much these days!

Good Morning! You have the day off today, right? Nice morning here in the bay area but glad we're not in the PNW. Big storm in WA/OR. Sounds like you have a busy Thanksgiving vacation planned! Lots of things to do. We usually have our Christmas shopping done by the time we leave for the winter but NOT this year! We're behind the power curve and are going to keep it very simple! Interesting info from your uncle. My DH was in the AF 20+ years, but we didn't get to go out of the states. At least, I didn't! He did a Viet Nam tour and a remote in Alaska. We did a little traveling in recent years, though, including a couple of trips to England. Remember eating in a pub once with my SIL... fish & chips. That was good. We stayed at a B & B a couple of times. Weird breakfast... baked beans, something like a hot dog and a cooked 1/2 of tomato. Didn't like it.
