Wow! Didn't know that! Makes perfect sense. Wonder why my doctor didn't tell me that!? He and his nurse practitioner acted like they didn't know where the missing 1cc went! Good explanation. Thanks for sharing that.

Janet, I forgot how you said to do the multiquote thing... hit multiquote on messages you want to respond to and then what.... new reply?? Thanks!

A thread for super-sized bandsters - starting BMI over 50?
phyllser replied to Wheetsin's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well, I thought I'd figured out how to do the "multiquote" thing, but I guess not because it didn't work! Trying to respond to both of you. Anyway, I'm in the SW right now, live in WA state, was born in Buffalo NY, though. We are "snowbirds" living in our RV for the winter near Palm Springs. I'm transitioning from 3X to 2X. I was wearing a 28 bathing suit last season but bought a new one yesterday... size 22!! It's hard because when I'm looking at clothes, I'm still going to the 3X and above! -

I sure can relate to that!! I'm 5' also... one nurse even measured me at 4'11". I didn't accept that! I was 5'2" all my adult life and suddenly I'm 5'! I didn't look to see what the BMI charts say is a "normal" weight for me. I'm shooting for 150 at this point. When I get there, if I decide I want to go lower, that'll be time enough to make that decision. 128 sounds unattainable to me right now!! -
How is weight loss for people over 50?

Yeah, it was good! And i LOVE sushi! I was looking at some at Costco yesterday. DH won't eat it, so I can't buy it. It goes bad before I can finish even one of those small Costco trays. That's one of the things I enjoy at the Morongo seafood buffet! -

Yep! I am BAD!! Neighbors had us over for a Christmas get-together tonight and I over did the wine a little! But I had only 2 crackers and some salmon... they have Alaska connections and they had caribou sausage, smoked salmon and salmon spread!! I got my seafood fix. We had no dinner after that. -

Great report on your doctor visit!! So when's your photo shoot??? He needs a lap band person to speak at his seminars. You'd be great at that! When I went last winter he had mostly bypass people speaking.

You betcha!! I'll be there!! Hope to see you before that, though! GOOD DAY today!! Been gone all day! TOPS weigh in was a real boost! Down 3.6 lb this week. That's 9 lb in the last month. That's pretty okay! I've lost about 17.75% of my body weight or about 1/3 of what I need to lose. Not bad... tomorrow is my 5 month bandaversary. Bathing suit sale here at the park today and I got a new suit about 3 sizes smaller than I was wearing last winter! So we went from TOPS to breakfast, stopped back at the RV to drop off the rest of my breakfast, went to Costco, Sam's & Wal-Mart, back here and to the suit sale, then to the neighbors for a Christmas get-together, so not home at all from 8 am until 7 pm!! Now trying to catch up on email! Hope everyone had a great day! I did!

Oh, my! DH grilled some salmon tonight and served it with some steamed veggies... broccoli, cauliflower and carrots. I could only eat a few bites. I don't know what's up with that. I had maybe 1-2 oz. of the salmon and not even 1/4 cup of the veggies and I couldn't eat anymore. That was 30 minutes ago and I'm still really uncomfortable, burping and feeling miserable. Wonder why!?? Similar to what happens sometimes when I eat tuna fish. Of course, don't you know those are two of my favorite things!

Just read this on one of the Seattle area TV/News websites. Very interesting: Stand up to lose weight 06:15 PM PST on Monday, December 17, 2007 JEAN ENERSEN / KING 5 News #main-video { background:#000; position:relative; top:0px; left:0px; height:0px; width:0px; margin:0; padding:0; visibility: hidden; } #videoPlayer { position:relative; left:1px; top:1px; margin:0; padding:0; } #loading_container { background:#fff; height:0px; width:0px; text-align:center; font-size:10px; } #loading { position:relative; top:45%; } #video-image { margin:0; padding:0; } #video-controller { margin:0; padding:0; } #shareEmail { visibility:hidden; } #showShareEmail { cursor:pointer; } #preroll_companion { height:0px; width:300px; } #flash_section { background-image: url(/sharedcontent/video/img/gred_back.jpg); text-align: center;}.text_style_1 { font-family: Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; text-transform: uppercase; color: #000000; font-weight: bold; font-size: 12px;}.flash_symbol_placer { padding-top: 50px; left: 40%; text-align: center;} Stand up more often Stand up to lose weight. Sit down to fatten up. "Spend less time in the chair, get up and move around as much as you can throughout the day," said physiologist Fabio Comana. Standing up stimulates a fat burning enzyme, explains Comana. "When you're up walking around, standing, puttering around or exercising, that enzyme gets activated," he said. Sitting down shuts it off. "That enzyme really responds to physical activity," said Comana. The good news is you don't have to exercise to make it work. University of Missouri researchers found daily puttering around will drop off the pounds. "If I can get a few more calories burned every few minutes, you translate that over a 12-, 14-, 16-hour day, it can make a difference of as little a 100 calories a day, that may not seem like much in one day, but it's a pound a month and 12 pounds a year," said Comana. A simple way to stand up more often at work: Instead of calling or e-mailing a co-worker, walk over to them to deliver your message in person. At home, try getting up and doing something every time there's a commercial on TV.

Sounds yummy!! I would've done the same thing!

Hey, Peaches & Kathybad.... and anyone else who is interested, someone just sent me an email about the "smallest house in Toronto" currently on the market. Pictures are pretty interesting. If you want me to forward it to you, PM me with your preferred email address. It's a pretty cute little house. Interesting pictures.

And then wash it down with a glass of wine!! LOL... No, I didn't really say that, did I???? Dh says I'm having a bitchy day!! Still not feeling great so I guess I'm a little cranky! -
HELLO, any oldies out there? I'm almost 63 and want to live.
phyllser replied to FatAttack's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Well, this is just me, but I'd see if they'd give you a date. You can always cancel and reschedule. I say that because I had one doctor's office tell me there was a 3 year wait for Medicare patients!! Then, the one I went to, they kept trying to put me off until I got a little pushy about it. Then they came up with a "cancellation"! LOL -

Yeah, if you've done all your preliminaries, once they get their approval, it shouldn't take long at all. Do you know if they have others waiting for that approval as well?? If they have an anticipated date that they will be approved, maybe they'll give you a tentative surgery date. Can always cancel & reschedule. Just a thought. -
Thanks, Brandy! I do have a good time down here in the desert!! I love it down here!

Okay... now I need to know what are CORNELL NOTES AND PERIODIC TABLES????? Dini, Your pictures are great!! I looked at them on your website last night. You are SOOOO young!! "Auntie Phyl" could be your GRANDMOTHER!! I feel so old now! LOL So sorry you had such a bummer of an experience in NYC. My oldest daughter and granddaughter went for a couple of days last summer and one of my sisters, Barb, went with them. Barb moves at about the same pace as your friend does! And she did not bring walking shoes with her, so her feet were hurting and she couldn't keep up. GD, Alisha, is 17 yrs old and she is a GOER!! She had an agenda of things she wanted to see and do, like finding the guys that sell fake Coach purses, etc. and, from what I was told, Barb was quite miserable and Alisha was frustrated! They did have a good time, though, and managed to fit in everything on Alisha's schedule. NYC really is a neat place, so it's too bad you had such a frustrating time! Indian men are male chauvenists!! They were probably pissed because you thought it was okay for two gals to be traveling unaccompanied.

Don't forget Morongo!! My favorite! I like to play slots but DH usually only lets me have $20!! Why bother! When I go to NY I go with my sisters to Seneca Niagara (in Niagara Falls) and play slots. I like to go to Morongo on Thurs. nights when they have seafood buffet! $7.77 if you put $10 in the slots! But I found out you can put the $10 in, play a couple of times and cash out!! I'm so bad!! LOL I don't really like the slots at Morongo. I never win anything.... or see anyone else winning anything!

One of our son-in-laws thought that he wanted to be a teacher. He didn't even make it through student teaching before he was completely disillusioned... parents too much in control... "my kid is failing because you didn't teach him right", etc. Now he works for Microsoft making probably 3X what he ever would have made teaching. Too bad because he would've been a good one. School just AIN'T what it was when I was growing up!!!

If I got up that early, I'd be lookin' for coffee about now, too!! If I were a little closer, I'd bring you a Starbucks... SF and Fat Free, of course!! :ranger:

:welcome2::welcomeB::welcome2: Hi, Jaymie, what you are feeling is completely normal! don't be grieving the food... some of that stuff you love, you won't even want anymore, and you'll find it's no big deal. I eat whatever i want to eat, just in much, much smaller portions than I used to. The only thing you might have to give up is bread and I can actually eat a little, if I want to, but I don't usually want it. We'll be praying for you. You won't be sorry you did this!
-
Good plan. You'll be much happier!

I am impressed!! That is EARLY in the morning! :clap2::clap2::clap2: You've been preparing yourself for those tamales and cookies for WEEKS!! You'll do fine! You've got a plan and you're stickin' to it!! :hungry:
