OH, MY!! I am TIGHT tonight. Only able to eat a few bites of my dinner. Seem to have tightened up some since my fill about 10 days ago. I ate most of my veggies, but DH fixed me a really nice tuna steak and I could only eat a couple of bites. It is kind of dry, but.... Can't get it down. It's funny how I always seem to have a problem with tuna.. fresh or canned! I just sent him to the store for a new bottle of papaya! I didn't realize it, but I think I went through at least 1/2 bottle since my fill last week. Think I need to cut down portion size even more! Am I the only one not going out tonight???? I might be here all alone!!

Thanks, Joann!! I appreciate the compliments!! I am HAPPY and getting HEALTHIER all the time.... BP is down, Cholesterol numbers all within normal limits and i dropped one of those meds about 6 weeks ago. Welcome, Linda! I bet it's sticky down there, too, huh?? We spend the winters in southern CA and I wish we'd stayed longer this year!! The sun is shining here now, though, and it's supposed to go up to 60 degrees tomorrow!! Whoppee!!

I think we spent about $30 on our digital scale a couple of years ago and it is erratic and unreliable and apparently about 5 lb off! This morning it gave me three different weights in a 3 lb range!! I just sort of mentally subtract 2 lb from the best weight it gives me!! Karri, You're doing GREAT with the running!! Enjoy your trip to BEND this weekend! WOO HOO!! New shoes... one of my favorite things!! I just got my new mobility scooter.... Smaller, lighter, easier for DH to load in to the car!! Had to have a heavy duty model at my old weight!! So we're off to Wal-Mart for it's inaugural run!! Next week I see a new orthopedic surgeon.

See that... STUPID SCALE... you can't trust 'em!! Sharing our vulnerabilities with one another is what makes us "family". If you can't let your guard down, we're not being who we need to be for each other! Hmmm... not sure that makes sense, but you get it, right?? We have to be able to "spill our guts" when we need to!! And I do a lot of that! You're doing GREAT with your exercise. I quit logging mine when we left the desert! Lost count of my "Wii" sessions. Waking up from this dream??? Ain't gonna happen!! Quit worrying about that!

Yep, and she's at goal, too, right Denise?? Something like 100 lb off, right??!! What happened to your ticker, Denise??

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Honestly, I don't really remember, but I think I lost before my first fill. But, it's not that unusual to have a gain... and that's okay. Your body is recovering from surgery and you don't have any restriction yet. Don't get stressed out about it. Just follow your doctor's orders regarding what you should be eating now, and after your fill next week, you should start to see the weight come off.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

I love macaroni salad, too... you can have it occasionally.. but just a few bites of it. That's one thing I can't have in the house, because I'll keep taking those 2-3 bites until it's gone! Things like that... a special treat. and i have a "Three Bite Rule" with Desserts. Very seldom have things like that, but when I do... three bites. You get a taste, don't feel deprived, but stop after three bites! Popcorn.... not a favorite of mine, but some are eating those 100 cal bags for a night time snack. BLT's.... I have a pretty hard time with bread, so I very seldom do sandwiches at all. A lot depends on the type of bread... too doughy gets "stuck". We buy 45 cal a slice Sara Lee bread. Then DH toasts it and slices it down the middle so he has two to make me a sandwich (he runs the kitchen around here!). But I have to eat it really slow and sometimes only can manage to eat 1/2. Hamburgers... maybe 1/2 of one, but I think you'll find you don't want to waste the space in your stomach on things like bread/rolls. You'll be craving your meat and veggies instead! Honest! We've all gone through those same thought processes about all the foods we're going to miss after surgery, and amazingly, that's just not how you feel after surgery. I welcome the restriction and the inability to eat those things that used to be my favorites! With some exceptions, of course, like the macaroni salad I mentioned.. that talks to me if it's in the fridge! That hunger phase is pretty much just before you start getting your "fills". Initially most bands have no Fluid in them. The surgeon will begin to put fluid in the band at about the 3-6 week post-op time frame. It took me three fills before I had pretty good restricition. My surgeon's guidelines are to eat 1/2 cup servings about every three hours during that initial phase, and even beyond if that works for you. I did that for the first couple of months. But now I'm perfectly content with three small meals and an evening snack. I definitely think you are a candidate for LapBand, but you will need to try to get a handle on the emotional eating. We all have done it, we're all still sometimes plagued with that, but this site is a lifeline for many of us because we support and encourage one another and help one another through those times. And sometimes we use a little "tough love". Feel free to ask any questions you might have. You've come to the right place!

Thanks, Kari! I know. Last time she got mad at me for something really stupid and inconsequential she didn't speak to me for six weeks! She's extremely stubborn and holds a grudge for a LONG time! I'm hangin' in there, but next week is her birthday (42 yrs old... she's not a kid!), and the week after that Mother's Day. I suggested we go to Mother/Daughter Tea at church two weeks from tomorrow, but she said she didn't think she could take that this year (because of the problems with GD). So I said, "but... you and me, mother an daughter??" but she didn't respond, and now it would take a miracle for her to be back on friendly terms with me that fast! Don't know what we'll do about her birthday.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Welcome, Becky! You will definitely feel better when you start to lose some weight. What summertime foods are you worried about not being able to eat?? After the initial post-op phase, you will find that you can eat just about anything you want to eat, just in moderation... much smaller portions. And some of those favorites of yours, they won't be favorites any longer as you begin to change your eating habits. I think you will find your whole attitude towards food will begin to change. One example from my own experience... I thought I could not live without Diet Coke. I only drank about one can a day, but was very worried about the fact that I'd been told, NO MORE CARBONATED drinks after surgery. It really was the carbonation I was addicted to more than the Diet Coke because lots of times I drank carbonated Water and we even have our own carbonator to make our own. But, after my first pre-op appointment I decided to quit all my carbonated drinks... diet coke and carbonated water, and I was amazed at how quickly the craving stopped. I now always carry a bottle of crystal lite or similar drink. Keep us posted on your progress. We care!!

You're a SWEETIE!! Thanks for the encouragement. Frustrating thing is, we really didn't "get into it" over anything. The only reason I know she's ticked off and not speaking to me is I left 4 messages on her phone yesterday to see how her sleep study had gone and she won't call me back. So I talked to SIL and he acknowledged that she found out that I'd called a friend of hers and asked her to call & check up on her. (She is more DD's age & she's recently been through some teenage crap of her own.) DD is very bitter & angry towards our GD at this time because the kid moved out... senior in HS & about to turn 18 & has gotten very cocky & disrespectful recently. Well... it's a long story, but DD wants everyone to take sides and if you're not on "her side", then you're on her s..... list! We've been walking on eggs for a week (since we got home), and this week we both blew it!! DH wrote her a very loving email, not judgemental at all, just his observations of how HE has handled anger in the past and how that worked for him! And I made that phone call to her friend because I thought she could help her through this. They are supposed to go out for dinner tonight, so that is at least one good thing to come out of it... if she doesn't back out at the last minute! So, that's my sad story of woe. It's killing me that these family relationships are so broken at the moment and DD is perfectly happy with that. Wow!! You've done GREAT yourself!! Congratulations!! We'll be waiting to see the photos, Beth!

Here's some "perspective" for you that might help..... After 9 mos, I have finally reached the place where YOU started!! Ugh! I have another 100+ lb to go to get to my goal! But.... I WILL do it! I saw my PCP today. I sure love her... she is a sweetie. She never rushes... She spent a good 30 minutes or more with me and she goes over EVERYTHING! She is letting me stay off my "statin" and see where I'm at in 6 mos. She was very pleased with my HDL/LDL, Triglycerides, etc, as well as my BP, although she opted not to let me quit one of the BP meds at this time. She's having me see a pulmonologist to re-evaluate my CPAP needs as it probably needs to be readjusted. Also checking to see if my thyroid med needs to be readjusted. She liked my TAN, too! I told her thank you for noticing because it's fading fast!! Only a brief glimpse of sunshine today! Oh, yeah.... and my DD is not speaking to me! It's not been a great week!

Okay.... you can be depressed.. for a minute or two, but..... knock it off and look at what you've accomplished. Your body is getting ready to settle in... at your goal weight. It is REMARKABLE that in NINE MONTHS you've only had the scales stall TWICE!!! Give me a break!! Most of us have had weeks when we went UP instead of down! Talk about depressing!! You are doing so well....you're the LapBand Poster Child!!

Yeah, and then I answered you back and as soon as I hit the submit button the site went down again!! I played some golf today, bowling, boxing... knocked a guy out in the 2nd round, and redid my "Fitness Age".... 66 today! "Wii"!!

Slow, steady is okay. It's a daily thing... diet, exercise. My exercise right now is our new "Wii"!! Just finished a game of bowling and 3 holes of golf!! I'm eating very small portions since my 4th fill last week. Three small meals and a snack at night. Very few carbs, mostly fish and veggies.

I don't like to look at that original picture... it is gruesome!! I do miss that blue sweatshirt, though!! I loved that sweatshirt. Now it hangs like a tunic and the sleeves hang below my fingertips. I put it lovingly into the bottom door of my dresser today! New photo is okay... just should have worn different clothes. I need to put away those baggy pants for one thing! Why is it so hard to part with our BIG clothes???? Fill is GREAT!! Good restriction. Can't eat much at all, not getting hungry between meals. DH is not getting it, but eventually he will cut down my portions....since he serves me all my food!! I keep giving it back to him so he should get it pretty soon!! It doesn't seem to help to keep telling him.. smaller plates, smaller portions. So I just eat a little and give it back. I was so happy to hit that 75 # mark yesterday and now I'm on the brink of breaking another 10 lb. mark.

I hear you!! No snow here today... after four consecutive days of it!! That does NOT sound like fun, but all for a good cause. Get it done ASAP so you can go to the M of A with us!! Are you pursuing getting insurance to pay for this because of the back problems??

Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters

M of A..... I'm going no matter what!!! You had a GREAT day... except for the exercise.... which I haven't done yet either!! Have to switch the TV input to the Wii and play some TENNIS or something!! Did go for about a 2 hr ride on my scooter, but that doesn't count!! Next time I am going to take plastic bags and gather up pop/beer cans that I am passing along the way!! That should count for some exercise!! It is disgusting to see the garbage that people must throw out their car windows that is laying along the sides of the road!!:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:I can't believe you are leading Ruby astray..... telling her to be dishonest!! Shame!!:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: Poor Baby!! Too hot while exercising!! My scooter ride.... I had on sweat pants, heaviest sweat shirt I own, heavy fleece jacket, knit scarf, hat and gloves!! I wish I was back in the desert with the wind and the heat!! It's too cold here and ..... our DD is causing a lot of emotional turmoil for us... problems with our teenage GD have her very angry and she is not reacting with any degree of maturity. We've both been in tears over this today, and had two long phone conversations with our SIL. DD is in serious need of some counselling but it's impossible to even have a rational conversation with her about it at the moment. It's very frustrating, heartbreaking, and we are at our wits' end!!
