fascinated by changing taste buds!
mandyrenee82 replied to lynndtt's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Had a very small bite of my husbands Burger King Whopper Jr this evening, didnt eat any of the bun. Used to love whoppers, but that small bite made me nauseous. I think it was the charboil flavor that did it. This is a good thing. No more BK for me! Taste has definitely changed. In this case, it's definitely a good thing. -
Anyone had surgery to have a baby...
mandyrenee82 replied to linda305's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
We never used condoms either but I have reactions to latex. I really don't want my who-ha on fire. LOL. my cousin got pregnant with an iud so that worries me too. I didn't have this surgery to just get preggo. I have health issues that have basically almost resolved themselves in the short time I've had surgery. No more insulin and my bp meds cut in half. I feel better than I have in years. Healthier me = healthier baby and pregnancy. -
Anyone had surgery to have a baby...
mandyrenee82 replied to linda305's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I have pcos and this was the main factor for me to get this surgery done. My husband and I have been married 5 years now. Tried since day 1. Had tests done low and behold I have pcos. Couldn't afford fertility drugs at the time so we just got to the point "if it happens, it happens". I'll be 31 in August. My clock is ticking here. Our eggs lose quality as we age. Had the sleeve on 4/16 and down 70 pounds. Started my period which I didn't have for two years. Have actually had two now. Normal periods. Now on birth control so I don't get preggo too early. We all know we barely eat enough to keep us going, let alone another person growing inside us. I was told by my surgeon to wait 18 months. My pcp who is a fnp used to work for a wl center and said 12-18 months. So April/may/June next year we are going to start trying again. I honestly don't have that much time to wait. As I said my clock is ticking!! -
What if I die?
mandyrenee82 replied to Mrs.FullerRN's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dying during surgery was my only worry. It scares me to be put to sleep and worry about not ever waking up. But I'm still here, alive and kickin'. And 75 pounds lighter! -

Anyone with PCOS?
mandyrenee82 replied to nataliesunshine's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was sleeved 4/16 and have had two periods since. The first one was brutal because I hadn't had one in 2 years. Dr put me on birth control and the second one wasn't so bad and not heavy like the other. Thank God! Pcos sucks. Weight gain, excess body hair, thinning hair and possible infertility sucks. And no one knows anything about it unless they have it. No one else understands either. My weight loss has been pretty good. Had about a 3 week stall but seems fine now. Surgery weight was 284 and now I'm 210. Hopefully these pcos symptoms go away. Hubby and I want a baby. That was the main reason for surgery. I'm 30 will be 31 in August. My clock is ticking really fast!! The 18 month wait is gonna be the hardest! -

Eating a slice of avocado a day got me out of my stall!! Not sure what it is about that stuff but it worked for me. Worth a shot! -

I didn't tell anyone other than my hubby and immediate family. I was visiting my parents Memorial Day and a family friend saw me out and immediately called my mom and told her that I had to be on drugs because I had lost 60 lbs since Easter. My mom just laughed and told her to mind her own business. So it's damned if you do tell, damn if you don't. You're either lectured and ridiculed or you're on drugs. My hometown thinks I'm a crack head now lol. Ahh. Gotta love small towns.

fascinated by changing taste buds!
mandyrenee82 replied to lynndtt's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I used to love iced tea with sweetener like splenda or sweet and low. Now all tea tastes like dirt to me. Even tried a drink of my hubby's McDonald's sweet tea (used to love it when I could have it) and it tasted like dirt, too. Don't know what it is. Certain smells now make me nauseous. coffee is the biggest one. YUCK! Walked by krogers deli yesterday and the smell of their fried chicken made me nauseous, too. So yes. Taste changed for me, plus smells of food. -
Try a banana.

10 more pounds gone!! Starting process weight 291. May 2012 Had surgeon problems and switched. Surgery date 4/16/2013 weight 284 Current weight 210. 81 pounds gone in a lil over a year. 74 in two months. . Happy happy happy!! -
PS. I was going to keep it from my immediate family but I kept thinking what if something went wrong during surgery and I died or had severe complications. They would've killed my husband for not telling them. And I wouldn't have got to tell them how much I loved them before they wheeled me off to surgery. I'm a big softie. Family is my everything.

My hubby, mom and dad and siblings plus a good friend that used to be my preacher before I moved from my hometown knows. I didn't tell my parents until a month before my surgery. My dad was against it at first because his mom had her stomach stapled whenever it first came out like in the late 60s or 70s. Idk which. She didn't lose any weight from it and totally went against drs orders. So it was her fault not the surgery although technology has improved since then. The reason I chose to have this done was because I had blood work and my kidney function was slightly elevated. It has been since childhood. I had an ultrasound done and my kidneys are way too small for my weight and age. Nephrologist said lose weight and mentioned wls or i'd be looking at dialysis before I'm 45. Im 30. Scared the crap outta me. I explained this to my dad and he accepted it. (my Grandma-his mom died on dialysis) Looked into it and after I went through the 6 month process, had sleeve on 4/16. My Lost 60 pounds in less than a month. I've done it for me and my health. I haven't weighed myself in awhile though. That scale is evil!' Reason I kept it only between my immediate family and former preacher and me is because I didn't want people to think I took the easy way out. Or that I was an attention seeker. Plain and simple, it's nobodies damn business. Anyhow when I went to visit my family on Memorial Day, someone close to my family saw me out and immediately called my mom and said "I think Mandy is on drugs. She's lost a lot of weight since Easter". (Last time I was home). Mom told her to get a life. And if it mattered to her, I was doing weight watchers. And also told her to mind her own business that she knew better that I wouldn't do drugs. So word around my hometown now is that I'm on drugs. LMAO. Let them think what they will. They ain't getting the truth from anyone. Small towns can be the worst sometimes. Pleased to tell that I haven't taken a shot of insulin since surgery and cut my bp meds in half. Just wish this gout attack would disappear so I can exercise more.

I've read of people on here using tortilla shells instead of bread. Sparingly of course. I saw one person make a pizza out of one. Put sauce on it and then healthy toppings and baked it for a few minutes. I wouldn't throw them out but maybe use them less.

There's this baby ointment called Buttpaste. I put it on my face on cold windy days to keep from getting chapped and wind burnt. Swear it works like a charm. The name cracks me up though.

Ever been called fat by a kid?
mandyrenee82 replied to a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I blame it on the parents lack of discipline and teaching respect. In my adult years, I don't think I was called fat by kids but rather a/s/s/h/o/l/e adults. I was teased and made fun of everyday while I was in school, up until high school. I guess the bullies got different bait. It still hurts to think about what my classmates called me and you begin to believe it because its beat into your head several times a day. Looking back I wish I had the willpower to stand up for myself or knock their teeth down their throat. But I knew it would have probably made the bullying worse. Funny thing is now, 90% of the kids who made fun of me have been in and out of jail, rehab, strung out on drugs, have 10 kids all by different men. Some are way bigger than me now. Karma is definitely a b/i/t/c/h. -
I have read that too. Hopefully when my hormones settle down, I'll be in the mood again.

Why are my readings not coming down?!?!?!
mandyrenee82 replied to bascott73's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have to watch and be careful more now than ever. My sugar can fall at the drop of a hat. I keep sugar free and regular Popsicles around just in case. Along with fruits. I was told when my a1c was over 10, I couldn't have surgery til it was 9.0 or lower. I made it to 9 just before surgery and now a 6.6. No insulin shots make it so much more worthwhile. You'll get there girls. Watch your carb intake and excess sugars and drink lots of water (even if it means adding a pack of sugar free kool aid or Hawaiian punch packets to your bottled water.) You can do it. I'm cheering you on!!
