No turning back...Tomorrow is my REBIRTH!
kckitty replied to rochelle25's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations! I go in the morning, too. Little scary, but it is a starting point for the rest of my life. Well, actually I started that thinking that on the 10th, when I started the 14 day liver reduction diet. Keep us posted~ -
Addiction is awful. My alcoholic parents quit that, then quit smoking when my mother had cancer. I admired them so much for overcoming that. Sometimes medication can help with addiction, so hopefully if the therapist sees you maybe that would help restrain the beast. Know that this beast is NOT the true you. You could try naming the 'beast', as Squeeky mentioned, sometimes separating out that part of you could help you and your family. Remembering you in my thoughts.

My adventure from the day before to Day 4.

Glad to hear about your journey so far. I am scheduled the 24th. Did you have any issues swallowing the pills that soon after surgery? -
I don't know. I just assumed it was to check your lungs and heart so they know if your heart is enlarged, or if there are potential problems (anesthesia) with your lungs. But they can be a blessing. My mom had one before she had a minor surgery many years ago, and they discovered lung cancer. She was able to have part of a lobe removed and lived for several years after that.

ANY APRIL SURGERIES?....
kckitty replied to mmlucas77's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Please add me: carole.pflanz.jennings@gmail.com I am scheduled April 24! So close, and still so far! -
I am pre-op, too. Day 10 of the liquid protein 14-day diet. As an older woman (60's) and married, I just want to tell you that you are the only one in your life who can make you happy. Concentrate on taking care of yourself. Get to know yourself. Find a therapist/counselor that you can relate with, and talk your head off. For depression, medication is sometimes needed. I don't know that surgery itself will solve any problems. But the weight loss will allow you to more easily indulge in any activities that you enjoyed when you were thinner. What did you enjoy doing then? What made you happy as a child? Try to take care of yourself in all ways: physically, socially, spiritually, intellectually. Indulge yourself in a massage, or taking a class, learning something new. These take you out of yourself and open you to the opportunities out there.

I am pre-op, approved and waiting, chugging down liquid protein shakes. Can't offer much in the way of experience talking, but I wanted you to know that others are thinking of you and wanting this journey for you to be successful. Think positive. How much easier it is going to be to walk, take care of the kids, and just move around in general. I can understand the tension. Have you tried the breathing techniques for relaxation? Have you been able to do anything just fun and relaxing for yourself? I took up knitting so that I would have something new to concentrate on, and that also keeps my hands busy. You are in my thoughts, La mom!

My pre-op is in day 8, surgery scheduled the 24th of April. My diet is completely different: 3-4 protein shakes a day (breakfast, lunch, dinner, and may have one in the evening) and water, broth, sugar-free crystal lite. I had headaches the first few days and blamed it on caffeine withdrawal. Did you drink colas or coffee or tea previously?

I am happy to hear you say that you would do this all again. I am scheduled for Apr 24, Day 8 today of liquid diet/protein drinks. It is boring, drinking the shakes, and I have added some hot herbal tea and broth because I am wanting hot things. Thanks for sharing.
