I've always been overweight but now I've gotten to the point where I'm morbidly obese. My BMI is 49.85, I have Type 2 Diabetes, Sleep Apnea, and High Blood Pressure. Also, being clinically depressed doesn't help with my weight factor. I remember my aunt having gastric bypass surgery around 12-15 years ago and around age 11 I started telling myself that I needed to have that surgery. Of course, being only 11, my mom said I was being ridiculous and that I could just start eating healthy. That didn't work. I've tried Slim Fast, Nuez de la India, Slim Quick, working out, I've had a dietitian, and I've even been on a Diabetic diet. Nothing seems to work for me. So, now that I am 21, I'm deciding for ME that I want to have bariatric surgery. People say that surgery is the easy way and I could not DISAGREE more. You have to COMPLETELY change your whole lifestyle!!! Yes, the liquid diets sound tough, and the making sure you have enough protein, and getting your vitamins... but ya know what, I definitely think that it will be worth it. My only problem with this whole surgery thing is having to go in on Monday, April 15, and telling my surgeon what procedure I'd like to have. I'm stuck between Laparascopic Roux-En-Y Gastric Bypass that the Vertical Sleeve Vasectomy. At first I was all for the gastric bypass because I heard it definitely definitely helps with Diabetes... but then I heard that the VSG procedure does the same. AND I'm not sure about the whole re-routing organs thing. If something major happens, God forbid, and I need to be intubated, I'd like to my body parts to be aligned and not maze-like. SO, if anyone has any advice or encouragement or reasons why the VSG procedure is overall better than a RNY, I'd love to hear it. Any feedback will be accepted. I also encourage every person just starting this journey like me, are continuing the journey, just finishing, or starting again, to not give up. :)
