Do Not Take PPIs if at all Possible
Cheer Mama replied to Catracks's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If I had started PPIs years earlier I wouldn't have been mistaking the acid pains for hunger pains.... If I don't take them now, then I STILL get those 'hunger' pains. So for me, they are wonderful! -
I'm on day 5 of pre op and starving!
Cheer Mama replied to allysonk2009's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you taking in enough Protein? That was and still is my biggest problem. On my pre diet I had to try to get in close to 60g of protein. It was much easier before than after the surgery. There is also Isopure clear drinks with a LOT of protein in them. I added flavor to them to make them more palatable. I guess what I am trying to say is get in enough protein because it will 'fill' you up. Oh, don't forget to drink lots of Water also...... Good luck! -

Besides weight loss, what has been the biggest benefit since getting surgery?
Cheer Mama replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm a little over a month out- less medication, blood pressure and cholesterol, lowering my chances if getting the inherited diabetes. Best of all, smaller clothes! Hehe -
Congrats! Did you have a surgery other than sleeve? I'm a month out and for me personally I am still a little sore, but I also had 2 hernias repaired. I was on pain meds for a solid 1.5 weeks because of my umbilical hernia. Remember, everyone is different. There is a reason they give out pain meds, it hurts to have your stomach muscles cut through. I was on serious meds and felt bad for asking for a 3rd refill and the nurse told me that this was not out of the ordinary. I hope you fell better soon.

There is nothing as good as a good.....
Cheer Mama posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just let me start with the fact that I am almost a month out from surgery. I have a hard time eating. I've figured out that I need to somehow eat and not allow gas to enter my stomach. Yea, right! I have to allow gas in my stomach to dissipate before I eat too many bites of food. If I don't I either get really uncomfortable or I just plain throw up. So, there is nothing as good as a good, earth shaking burp. :o :o -
When do you start counting calories and protein?
Cheer Mama replied to kjordan83's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Right out of surgery I had to keep track of how many oz. of liquids and grams of Protein I was getting. I had a goal of 60 of each. I made a chart of squares that were 6x10. I checked them off every time I drank. Then I wrote down them number of grams I had after each shake........ If I had not have had the chart, I would have found it hard to keep track, especially since I was on pain meds for a while! Good Luck! -
I am sooooo sorry hun. I know that some men can seriously be so very self centered. Talk to the doctor and ask him when sex will be safe. Then give this answer to your husband. You are still healing and don't want any of the staples or sutures to rupture and put you back in the hosp. I know that I wasn't able to lift anything heavy or to even start any kind of exercise for a month. Good luck

HUNGRY A LOT OF THE TIME?
Cheer Mama replied to TracyAnn15's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you on an acid reducer? What I always thought of as hunger pains has turned out to be acid.... -
I will be a month out on the 7th. I had HUGE buyer's remorse the first couple of weeks. I hurt, hated Protein drinks, and hated Water. Then the pain went away. I got on soft foods. The protein wasn't so bad anymore since I had variety now. I am down 2 pant sizes. I don't have to stretch out my t-shirts anymore. I'm down 22 lbs. I have a jawline and a thinner neck. It's easier to shave my legs and paint my toes. My blood pressure is down so far that I got off of my meds. I have a total of 4 friends who have had the sleeve. They just got it at about the same time as I did. AND we didn't tell each other, pure coincidence! The other 2, one is a size 6 and the other is still losing and she is getting to look awesome! I'm glad I did it..... now.

protein, and amount of food
Cheer Mama replied to cmathews77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I eat teaspoon of yogurt and cottage cheese. Some times I sprinkle a little bit of non-flavored Protein on top for a little bit of extra protein. I also a do soft scrambles egg. I couple this with my Protein drinks. I totally appreciate the disgust with your protein drinks! Now that I'm adding some real food into the mix, I find that the shakes aren't so bad. -

There is a danger of dying anytime you are put under for anesthesia and having any kind of surgery. There is also a danger of dying from obesity and all the comorbidities that go along with that.....

Excited but anxious
Cheer Mama replied to scarletflame02's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was seriously second guessing myself for the weeks prior to the surgery. That first week and a half AFTER sugery I even had HUGE buyers remorse. But I am now losing my fat. My chances of having diabetes, which runs strong in my family, are going down. My blood pressure is already low enough to get me off of that med. I'm going to be able to sit in stadium seating and not get "stuck.' I will soon be able to shop in the misses section of the store. My list goes on and on..... I am happy with my decision. :0) -
I am very excited about my first 20lbs gone. hehe Just had to share :0) I was sleeved 6/7/13 2.5 weeks ago. I've gone down 1 size in my jean shorts AND I don't have to stretch out my T-shirts.

Nope, I'm in my 3rd week and I just take TINY bites of food that I cut into tiny pieces, then proceed to chew for the next five minute.....
