How long was your hospital stay?
zempress replied to LittleDooker's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
10 days. Severe nausea caused dry heaving. Ripped sutures. Had second surgery next day to repair. Horrible experience. -
Change in strategy. What strategy works best for you?
zempress posted a blog entry in zempress' Blog
I have changed my strategy. I am no longer counting calories and only weighing in at the doctors once a month. I am trying not to be upset and judge success or failure via numbers. I know I am being successful based on people's comments and the way my clothes fit. Ultimately, I am trying to simply forget about my food obsession by incorporating my new lifestyle in to my daily routine. What strategy do you find works best for you? The band to sleeve revision is unfortunately only a tool for me. I must work really hard eating healthy food choices and exercising to actually lose weight. I am comforted knowing it is not a temporary change! -
Well after celebrating, what do i do?? BINGE! I still do not understand how my new stomach allows this. Disappointed in myself.

curious how people are eating...

Why do you have to have two surgeries? I had the band removed and had the sleeve in the same procedure. -
I cannot even imagine.

Went out n bought an outfit 2 sizes smaller. What r ur successes???

I find it very challenging to day after day only consume so few calories with high protein and low carb as my focus. I don't understand why some people do not experience hungry at all, and some people do – like me.
-
Almost 3000 calories this day. I usually eat 850-1000 but i'm always hungry
-
Olive garden fettuccini--entire lunch portion, minestrone soup 1/2 bowl, spinach artichoke dip, lasagna fritta, chips, pepsi, ice cream bar, broccoli, OG doughnuts. Not all at one time, throughout evening.

I have never been able to buy from regular stores--KUDOS to YOU!! Can,'t wait to join you in shopping in those departments!
-
I bought things in color! I even bought a white crocheted sweater!

After three weeks of eating very well, and exercising I have lost 8 pounds! I am almost where my normal weight range would be, but I am really looking forward to going beyond my normal weight And going much much lower. This surgery certainly is not the magic cure, but it has definitely given me motivation. It Is motivating because I know there's no way I can get back to where I was weight wise. This is the end of the yo-yo effect.

Finally, people are really noticing my weight loss. It has been almost 2 months. I really expected the weight to just drop off of me, but That is not the case. I have been working really really hard; it is nice that people are starting to notice. I put on a shirt that was extremely small last fall. Not only did it fit today, it was also loose! I think another two or three weeks may require me to do some shopping! Yippee!!!

I had the revision on 3/27, and I struggle daily with keeping my calories down only to 1000 cal per day. It is still really hard for me because I am hungry and 1000 cal is absolutely not a lot of food. Kudos to those of you who find it difficult to Consume enough calories. Envious!

So many questions, please help me!

I have been relearning how to eat because I too would trick the band. Drinking lots of water, enjoying a lot of oil and butter to help the food slide through the stoma, Self-induced bulimia due to overeating, etc. I had a revision on March 27 and I can tell you that it is really truly different trying to eat because there is nowhere else for the food to go when you are full. There is no waiting to wash it down through the stoma, no adding extra oil and butter to get things to slide down, et cetera. I am not a very good rule follower, but with the sleeve I have never had an incident where I had to vomit due to overheating. Again, I do have a really good shrink who helps me through the detours on my path of reinventing myself. It's a really hard struggle, but I am worth it. -
Yesterday, I was stark raving mad with hunger. I could not stop eating. Has this happened to anyone else? I actually bought a salad from outback steakhouse at lunch assuming I would only be able to eat a couple of pieces of lettuce or cucumber. I was completely wrong-- I scarfed the entire thing With no feeling of restriction. I do not understand how this works. I do not understand how I can eat an entire salad-- a house salad-- and not be full!! By the end of the day I just gave up and consumed over 2500 cal. On a normal day I eat between 850 to 1000 calories with low-carb and high-protein as my focus. Today, I do not feel particularly hungry, and I feel restricted. How is this possible? Has anyone else experienced the same thing? I would love to hear your feedback. Thank you.

I had the band, and it was a waste of time. I too would classify myself as a food addict. Unfortunately, I yesterday that I can still eat a ton of food. (See my blog) I'm working extremely hard to make good food choices throughout every minute of each and every day with the help of a very good psychologist. In fact, I email him daily. I concentrate my food choices on high-protein low-carb restricted calories (850-1000) and exercise. Even with all of that, I am only losing 1 pound a week. That is really hard for me to swallow (pun intended!) However, I am not starving on a normal basis. I am pretty satiated for the majority of the day with what I feed myself. Don't get me wrong, I still want more and know that my stomach will allow me to eat a lot more, but I am working hard to get this weight off. I hope this helps. Feel free to ask me anything. -
I heated water first n check temp w/a thermometer. 16 oz to one packet although it says 8 oz

Well, I am 6 1/2 weeks out. I have really increased my exercise and today I did 30 minutes on the treadmill most of it in zone two. (I use a heart rate monitor to record my data). I have started noticing I can fit into close one size smaller, and I have a lot more energy! So whether the pounds are coming off or not, I am feeling good about myself and my level of energy!! I weigh in at the doctors on June 3. I don't know whether I am excited about it or not...

Again I find myself thinking that this surgery was supposed to be the magic cure. It is not. My weight loss is only 1 pound per week. My diet is high-protein low-carb low-calorie (850 to 1000) and I must exercise often for that 1 pound per week. I see my surgeon every month n my next visit is 6/3. I'm hoping for a grand number. I am 6 1/2 weeks out. Am i the only one like this??? I keep waiting for my clothes to fall off of me--some sign apart from a number. But not yet. Only a couple of people have even noticed I've lost anything. I'm very disappointed... Band to sleeve revision. 6 1/2 weeks out, 22.5 down

Thank you everyone for your tips and especially your encouragement! Again, really glad to know I am not alone.
-
Thats amazing? 30 carbs is so low, what was your typical daily diet like?
-
I just drank it like broth. Really yummy
-
Extra protein drinks? I drink Advantage Edge. 100 cal, 17 grams protein, 5 carbs.

about to have a melt down.

I've only been losing one pound a week after the initial 20 pounds post-surgery. It's VERY disheartening! I do low-carb, low-cal, high protein, very busy n i go to the gym--all for that one pound. I'm 6 weeks out.
