I'm a 58 year old, wife, mother, and professional. I've been obese most of my life and had multiple related medical problems. Three years ago I decided it was time to explore bariatric surgery (my sister had undergone bypass surgery in the early 80's) and was encouraged to pursue that avenue by all of my physicians. I found a female surgeon in the area and began the long process of qualifying for surgery. After 9-12 months of following the process and all of the testing, the surgeon's office never told me that I was approved for the surgery and so I did not have surgery and during that time, the surgeon moved her office to another city. I was devastated by the disappointment and waited a full year to try again to find another bariatric surgeon. My trust level was low, but I found Dr. Tuesday Cook and she immediately put me at ease and throughout the past year, she has been professional, consistent, and compassionate. It was such a relief to find a competent and excellent surgeon. I again went through the process of retesting, and finally obtained approval for GS surgery. My surgery was March 20, 2013 and I am now 4 weeks out. I've had a couple of ER visits post-surgery for chest pain which thankfully were not heart related, rather esophageal spasms. I made it to the soft food stage but had to go back to liquids until the spasms are managed. No matter -- I am determined to overcome these small setbacks. I know that I made the right decision for me. I am looking forward to a healthier and more active life.
