Surgery before starting grad school
Denn replied to AthinnerAmy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First of all congrats on your future surgery. I had mine two weeks ago and will be starting classes in two weeks. I'm just working on my bachelors- so my work load may not be as much but I'll be taking 12 credit hours this summer and working about 35 hours a week. I also did self-pay in Mexico. During the first and second weeks I was tired at times but honestly I feel great and wish classes would begin earlier. I think if you prepare in advance and make a definite eating plan you should be ok - but If it were possible doing it even a couple of weeks earlier might help. Good luck!!! -
We go to Mexico for various reasons. For me it was lack of insurance, some people' insurance won't cover it, and some don't want to spend the money when there are qualified doctors in Mexico. My parents have their own - very successful business- but since we are Mexican have always trusted the doctors and felt that the care is really good and without insurance has been a great option. I have basic care in the states but without surgery I was basically facing higher costs with insulin medications and constant sickness. I wish I could have done it in the states but I have no regrets of going across the border. I'm 13 days post op and hit 20 pounds 30 counting preop diet today. It's a choice for some of us who may not have had another.

Hi- I had my surgery in Mexico 12 days ago. They do require a pre-op diet and for you to fill out a questionnaire. They will contact you as well. I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Quinones and his staff. PM if you have any questions.

I've heard some say sleevers can't do soy - and same say its ok? I love soy products- so is it yay or nay and why?
-
Thanks guys, I know we are given lots of directions and instructions and I want to follow them- but the soy one seems a little off.

What about soy milk in my shakes? I was told its hard to digest... But I love soy milk... Or is it ok after I'm totally healed?

Nervous Wreck about flying!
Denn replied to csutton22's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
After surgery I actually went up to the desk and explained I had just had surgery and wanted to know if i could have a seat with the next seat to me empty - because I was afraid of getting hurt... They were able to do it for both of my flights. You never know unless you ask. On my way there it was a tight fit on one flight but bearable. Good luckk -

What did you do? How do you eat, how many calories, protein? You look amazing!!! -
I am 11 days post-op and don't have any regrets. But I woke up last night and was like OMG!!! I'm missing more than 70% of my stomach what the hell did I do!!! I have gotten my diabetes under control and am not taking any other meds at this point. I just wish I would've done it sooner. The only thing I'm hoping is that I will be a good loser - not fast not slow - just lose :-)

I was 246 pre-op and after two week liquid diet was down to 233. I am 11 days out and am about 215. But it doesn't show - my patents doesn't see it and think I may have wrong numbers. How long did it take for you all to show?

Where the May sleevers i just got my date!
Denn replied to Luvlvnlyfe5's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We can do this May sleevers !! I'm 8 days post op and 13 pounds down - 26 counting pre-op diet. I am feeling great. I haven't had an insulin shot in over two weeks and feel awesome. I am still healing and learning to sip and drink. My non-professional opinion is to walk as soon as you can after surgery. It helps with gas and soreness. Pre-op sucks - but it's so worth it. You all will do great. :-) -
So back to the bougie - my doc used a 34 and I cried - literally. But he told me to not freak out and that I'd be ok - now I see that the diff isn't that big!!! Thanks ladies. I find these treads informative and funny. Keep it coming :-)

Thanks - I was able to finish a 4 ounce shake in an hour with the sippy cup.
-
I'm six days post op and having a hard time getting fluids in. Today I used a sippy cup and it helped ... So I'd like to know if drinking out of a sippy cup is ok or is it the equivalent to using a straw ???

Denn replied to Luvlvnlyfe5's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi ! I had my surgery on the 7th with Dr.Quinones in Tijuana Mexico. I spent an extra day recovering there and came home late last night. I have to say that my experience was great. Of course there is slight pain and nausea but overall I'm doing well. If any one is thinking of self-pay I would definitely recommend him. His place is small but it's clean and his staff is great. I'm not working for him or anything , it's just that I see others have difficulties and think Dr Q would be a good fit for self payers. My dad was with me the whole time - which really helped. Now all I need to work on is getting fluids in!!! Happy with my sleeve and would do it again . -

I was sleeved Tuesday the 7th and am going great. I haven't thrown up and have only had mild pain. I've been pushing myself to drink and been mastering the art of the soft burp. I think for me the key was sticking to the pre- op diet. I'm flying back home today and would donor again in a heart beat. -
midnight it is officially May 2nd.
