This place has REALLY slowed down. And not just this particular section, the entire site. What a shame. A great wealth of knowledge was lost...

OH DEAR LORD!! That apostrophe in the title is HORRIBLE!!! FIX THAT: Veterans ONLY please. One year + post op. Please respond to this thread ONLY if you are a year or more post op. Thank you for your consideration. Many of us have expressed a desire to have a "safe place" for vets to discuss our progress, our maintenance plans, or just grumble in general. This forum is supposed to be that place, but it's quite often used as an "Ask A Vet" opportunity which is awesome, but sort of defeats the purpose. @@Alex Brecher and I have been tossing around ideas on how to better suit the needs of us oldies but goodies. We can restrict the forum by post number. We can restrict it by time registered on this site. We can restrict it by time post op. It's MY opinion that post number isn't working. Time post op makes most sense, but people can easily lie. I truly think we can sniff those people out, so this is MY first choice. The third option also makes sense if we say they have to be here 18 months of so. That would give them 6 months of pre-op diet time and then a year post op. Of course, Alex can make exceptions on a case by case basis. Please chime in with your opinions!! If you don't like the idea of a Vet's Only Forum, that's OK, too. You don't have to utilize it, but you are more than welcome to.

VET'S FORUM. What the %^&* is going on around here?
LipstickLady posted a topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
We have all these newbies coming in with questions/statements that make me wonder if they ever sat down with a NUT, their surgeon or if they were given any type of pre-op training. Is it OK to eat pizza/tacos/fried chicken? Is ice cream soft? How about milk shakes? I ate swedish fish/noodles/rice a few days post op. I am eating french fries and chicken nuggets, but it's ok because I'm ok so everyone else will be too. I want it so I ate it and I am going to get mad an anyone and everyone who tells me it wasn't a good idea. Anyone who disagrees is mean, rude, sarcastic, judgmental, non supportive, a bully, horrible, rotten, a monster. I get that this backlash is a defense mechanism because they know deep down that they are wrong but it still sucks to watch this downward spiral that is happening here. It's not great advice to chew and spit. It's not great advice to move along with your food stages because (you think) your body is telling you that it's OK. (Your body does NOT know best or you wouldn't be in this spot in the first place.) Vets should leave because all the above advice and pandering and coddling is MUCH better than real, honest, truthful, experienced answers. It's a freaking $h!tstorm out there the last few weeks. Seriously. -
I've got something to say and clearly I can't say it "out there".

I am scared for some of these newbies and the lurkers who are reading. This fear is probably a huge part of why I don't just log off permanently. Is it just me or does the trend seem to be "I'll eat what I want when I want no matter what my surgeon says" with other people actually coddling/recommending/applauding/defending that viewpoint? When I joined this site, I had my @ss handed to me several times (THANK GOD!!) because I wondered why (out loud) my diet was so restrictive. I wanted permission to break some rules because it was damn hard to follow them. I never did test those waters (with the exception of a Hershey's Kiss one week post op -- it tasted like I imagine licking an ashtray would) because the experienced people scared the **** out of me with talks of leaks, tears, vomiting, and the worst? BEING A FAILURE AT WLS. Maybe because I had my surgery in my 40s -- after decades of being fat and ready for a change -- I didn't take those words as "ganging up", "bullies", or "mean girls". Maybe it was because I knew in my head that I was being a dumbass every time I whined about wanted something salty instead of sweet. Maybe because I had the self realization that "listening to my body" put me in a place where I needed WLS, so clearly listening to me was a horrible idea... I will never forget my first WLS seminar. There was a young girl a few rows in front of me who was scheduled for surgery the next week. When we were going over the dietary stages post op, she raised her hand and told the NUT she has a bachelorette party a week after her surgery. She TOLD this woman that she WOULD be eating wings and drinking, no matter what. It was, after all, her body and her right. I would love to know what happened to her. Ideally, they took her off the surgery schedule. Most likely, she had surgery and is still obese 3 years later. I wish great success to anyone and everyone who has WLS. The quality of life this procedure has given back to me is worth all the coookies (sic) and crackers and french fries in the world. (Even McD's -- fresh out of the fryer!!) I hope everyone gets to experience everything they want to experience in a thinner, healthier body. I would love to hear less and less stories of people who never lost or gained it all back but I fear that those stories are just going to multiply with this new mindset. It's a shame. It's a great big DAMN shame. -
When my kids were bitty, my youngest would holler, "I lose!" within seconds every time. Sigh.

Wait, whuuuuuuuut?? You asked for advice and support and @@jenn1 was VERY gracious and supportive in her answer to you yet you choose to get snarky with her? She was SPOT ON and you are being defensive for no good reason that I can see. Either you want help or you don't. Seems to me like you are in that group that wants to come here and ask questions but also wants to put down and reject the honest, factual feedback that you originally asked for. Looks like another one for the block list. -
Dreaming of food [emoji85] (literally)
LipstickLady replied to roadtofit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You **CAN** handle it. It sucks, but it's worth it. Stop doubting yourself and just do what you need to do to be successful. The liquid diet does not last forever, it just feels like it does. To be crude, suck it up, buttercup. You are TOTALLY worth it. -

@@LittleLizzieLilliput She's an entertainer and a businesswoman. If she didn't want people to find her, I am certain she is intelligent enough NOT to use her real name (or at least, her FB name) on her BP profile. I, too, hope no one is mocking her, but finding her? I don't see the issue in that. -

I sincerely hope no one is judging her for her choice of profession, or her FB profile. Personally, I am all about making it work with what you've got! Clearly she has a strong sense of self confidence and I say MORE POWER to HER! I worry more about her food choices and what they could do to her healthwise. That's the ONLY issue here. -
@@pvechiola You are very determined to have surgery and I support that decision 100%. I am so confused on why you would be negative towards the 28 year old on a previous thread who also wanted it. You suggested diet and exercise yet you get frustrated when people suggest alternatives to you. Thoughts?

Be careful with those frozen strawberries! I personally wasn't allowed anything with little seeds until I was 6 months post op. Great idea for sure, but check with your surgeon.

Is ice cream a habit you want to keep in your weight loss efforts?

Lmaooooo do you search for my posts? You comment under every single one of my topics with a little "shady" comment then get upset when I curse you out, yet you claim that you're trying to help. Lmao you seem to be on this app 24/7, I know you're a little older but you should get a hobby..... or job. I think it's adorable how you stalk my posts though, thank you I didn't realize how important I was to you Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App You got me.

Clearly some people keep their common sense in their tummies -- the part that was removed.

MMMmmmm.... Carbs from the bread, sugar from the jelly, fat from the Peanut Butter. And barely any Protein. Seems like a perfect option to me!

I eat out almost daily and have never had an issue finding something. Soup, an appetizer, a side, the insides of a sandwich, a side salad, and if I'm not hungry, I don't order anything but a drink. (Tell a fat girl she can actually go to a restaurant and not order something and she will look at you like you have 400 heads, but I can and I do.) If I am with one of my kids, they usually order a salad, I have them add on a Protein for a few bucks extra and we ask for that add on to be on the side. I can't think of a single place I've been where I can't find something decent. Chinese? Egg drop soup and maybe the chinese ribs or a meal with steamed veggies, no rice. Italian? A meatball app. Pizza? The toppings or non breaded chicken wings. Burger joint? Burger, no bread, no fries. Mexican? A fish taco and Beans or I share fajitas no tortillas. It's seriously not a big deal.

So, you joined this site yesterday morning, you have two posts and one of them is advising someone to eat crackers and corn chips at 5 weeks out. Fabulous!! Welcome to BP. -

So, looking at this poster's history, she's consumed greasy chicken 10 days out, eaten Chinese food, pizza, had lots of drinks and the meal posted in the OP. She chose to skip the puréed stage and has vomited/felt sick due to her eating habits on several occasions. I'm sincerely flummoxed here. -
