  1. That's seriously the best way to do it. I measured everything because one bite too many and it all came back. I loved heavily mayonnaised salads. Crab salad, seafood salad, shrimp salad (I chopped the shrimp up a little). The fat kept me feeling full longer and it sat better on my stomach.
  2. You're fine. It took me almost a year to hit my Protein goals and I never could have done it without 2 Protein shakes a day. I'd voice your concern and see if you can't have one a day along with what you are eating. You can also add protein powder to yogurt, SF pudding, Peanut Butter... eggs were really hard on me for awhile as was chicken. Have you tried a softer protein like crab or shrimp? Crab legs were heaven for me because they were so soft and SO normal after so many weeks of liquids.

I feel great but my legs hurt

You may be dehydrated, that causes leg cramps. Best wishes!

    Summer Reading

I love current autobiographies and true crime. Fascinating stuff. I also love a great trashy novel. Life is too serious sometimes and it's great to just sink into a good book that is mindless. I used to be a huge Stephen King fan and would read all his books the moment they came out but kids came along and I fell behind. I am two in and plan on being all caught up by summer's end.

    Can I eat this?

I totally agree. My sushi guy uses cucumber instead of rice to hold my sushi together. It's awesome. Red peppers work, too. (Not for sushi, for salads and dips.)

    Can I eat this?

I was the same way. I took Zofran and a medicine that kept my stomach from cramping for three months post op. I could only drink watered down Gatorade for the first few weeks. I slimed like a beast and still throw up some days. ARGH. But totally worth it. This will pass.

    Can I eat this?

TOO EARLY for cucumber. That's not a soft food or puree'. According to my surgeon, no fruits or veggies with tiny seeds because they could get stuck and fester in your staple line. I don't know how true that is, but...

    Can I eat this?

I often have to remind myself that while I CAN eat something it doesn't mean I SHOULD. I ate my tuna (chicken salad, really, don't like tuna), with a baby spoon. No room for crackers.

So now I have killer gout!

@@proudgrammy said it best! Call your doc, insist on an appointment and take care. You will get past this and ultimately find peace in your WLS decision.

    Sleevers, Ramadan and fasting.

I didn't know you don't drink (or have sex!), too. Very interesting. My biggest struggle would not drinking all day. Once I was able to, I would not be able to eat for a while and once I eat, I can't drink for an hour or it all comes back up. You must be very organized and disciplined. Good on you! I'd probably have to skip the bread part of the sandwich and load up on Protein and healthy fats like avocado. Veggies would be hard to squeeze in, too. My only advice? Make sure you get in your B12. You might even ask your doctor for a b12 shot. It helps immensely with energy. Joyous Ramadan to you!

Hmmmm...perhaps there should be a study to see if there is a link between bad reality tv and obesity. I'm so relieved I'm not the only one!

    Deli meat

I'm 3+ years out and often ask the deli person for 1-3 slices of meat and cheese. I used to get weird looks for placing such a small order, but now they are used to it. Now I get weird looks for other reasons. When I am at home and feeling fancy, I take a slice of avocado, and roll it in pepper jack and ham or turkey. (Sometimes I go wild and add a slice of bacon.). I then throw it in a hot pan and roll it around until the cheese melts. Best roll ups ever.

These lists make me so happy! I'm going to add to mine. I used to own a hedgehog. Now that I'm not fat, I do mud runs with my kids ... but I hate getting dirty. My oldest is headed to a top ranked University to major in Evironmental Science and Statistics with her eye on a masters in Public Policy. She also grows her armpit hair out and dyes it various colors. My youngest wants to be a juvenile detention center counselor. She just hit 5 feet tall. Both of my kids are also 2nd degree black belts and certified instructors. Either could kick my azz. Since WLS my boobs have become 36 extra longs. I'm very good at making copy-cat recipes from restaurants. Unfortunately I'm too impatient to measure so I taste. After tasting, I rarely eat. No room. This probably explains my horrible baking skills. People either love me or hate me. Surprise!
