Your head explodes as you are wheeled into surgery. Yup. For real. KIDDING!!! Consult your NP.

    Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery

@@Alex Brecher These are the posts I think should be archived. The OP was from 2009 and has been resurrected in 2016??

    Food allergies

As far as the raw shellfish and pine needles ... I know that sounds odd. When I peel shrimp or decorate the Christmas tree, my hands swell up. I can eat cooked shrimp, though. That said, they say allergies can worsen with age. My dad is allergic to shellfish and I am terrified that I am developing that. I love shrimp, crab, mussels, clams... I can't imagine giving those up.

    Food allergies

I am allergic to so many fruits. Peaches, cantaloupe, kiwi, pear, banana, mango... I am allergic to raw shrimp but not cooked, pine needles (Christmas tree!), pine nuts, lobster... Oy! Surgery hasn't changed a thing.
  5. I said it in another thread and I will say it again here. Listerine strips. They taste horrid and will make anything you eat taste even more horrid. They are portable and the taste lingers for at least an hour. Your breath will be fresh and you will have plenty of time to let the head hunger pass. Keep them in your pocket.

Can I ever have coffee again?

My surgeon gave me permission to have coffee at the 3 month mark. It's best to ask your surgeon his/her advice on this one!
  7. Week three was my magic turn around. I was just starting purees but I think the surgery took more out of me than the lack of food. I was getting all the nutrition I needed with Protein drinks, but the diet itself was boring as hell. The more I walked, the better I felt, the better I slept (although insomnia lasted about 7-8 months) and I felt less foggy minded. Be good to yourself but don't go too easy on yourself. Move your body, force your liquids and try to get proper rest. This will pass!

    Tragedy in Orlando

    This guy right here. https://www.facebook.com/ABCNews/videos/10154495639018812/?pnref=story
  9. Miso soup, egg drop soup, pureed bean soup... Panera was my go to place. They were happy to strain any soup for me that I requested and I felt like I was eating something "normal" after almost 2 weeks of Protein shakes, Jello and Popsicles.

You know what would be really fun?

So to my detriment, I am a lazy forum poster. I rarely look at who I am replying to even after I hit submit. I generally don't pay attention to it, in fact, until I get a hot reply. Weird, I know, but I tend to reply to the COMMENT not to the USER. How great would it be if we had a week of blind posting? People couldn't use their "tells", so I'd have to be conscious of my this/that/theother/etc habit, @@KindaFamiliar couldn't be a creeper, @@Dub couldn't post food porn... It would be interesting to see how this would effect the rate of reporting, finger pointing, offended peeps, name calling, and on a positive side, which bonds could actually be made when the names started appearing again. I know, it's just a day dream, but it would be super interesting.

    Out to dinner!

I can go anywhere! I just look at menus online first and figure out which small plate or starter would be best. If all else fails, a side salad with a protein add on is best.

When your dog has the same stylist as Trump. Yes, this IS my dog.
  16. That's crazy talk!!!! chocolate tasted like licking an ashtray for about 6 months post op. My taste buds changed rapidly immediately after surgery so do not stock up on anything. You never know what you may grow a sudden distaste for tomorrow.
  17. Buy your own dang Harley once you get to goal and maintain for a year. Totally awesome incentive.

    Regret before surgery

No regrets here regarding having surgery. I DO, however, regret 20+ years of obesity and yo-yo dieting. I do regret the irreparable damage I've done to my joints. I do regret 15 years of rarely appearing in front of the camera with my kids as they grew up because I hated seeing myself in pictures. I do regret all the vacation opportunities I missed because I was too unfit to run the dunes/ride the horse/fit in the roller coaster/hike the mountain/participate in the school 10k/etc. I regret being the fat mom in the room. I regret being a horrible body image role model to my two teens. I could go on... No, I never regretted the idea of surgery. I was scared and nervous, but I knew it needed to be done to get my life back.
