You have two topics so far and you've asked about eating steak, hot dogs, cheeseburgers and BBQ. Have you had at nutrition consult? Perhaps you need to sit down with him/her and with a support group to hear what your diet is going to be like before you go through surgery. The things you are asking about are not in the best interest of your new stomach, new lifestyle or your weightloss.

I'm not sure a hot dog is your best source of protein.
-
They should come with a lid. You can get a handle, too, for hot drinks.
-
What kind of socks are you wearing? If your feet are warm, you probably will be, too. Check the camping section of any outdoor store. They make wool breathable socks that are really low rise so you can wear them under Ked-like shoes.

My Tervis Tumbler will keep my coffee HOT for about three hours. It will also keep my drink ice cold for about the same, even in the summer. They are pricey, but worth it. I have one for my protein drinks and another for my water/crystal light. And yes, I bring them both into the car as I travel a lot for work and am on my pre-op.

Up calories to loose weight?
LipstickLady replied to laughingheels's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Eating more will pull your body out of starvation mode and allow it to burn the calories it is clinging on to to live. -

How soon after surgery did you travel?
LipstickLady replied to dansgem's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Remember, many people travel to Mexico and Tijuana to have surgery and are home within a week. Good luck and safe travels! -
I am not in your situation but I can offer you an internet hug from a stranger and a high five for recognizing where you are and where you need to go. I wish you the strength and courage to move forward into a better situation. I have no doubt you can!

My two week pre-op diet starts today and marks the beginning of my period, too. My diet isn't nearly as bad as some that I've read on here. That said, I am so thankful I started a modification of this two weeks ago to ease my fat ass into healthier eating and smaller portions. Breakfast: One shake. Lunch: One shake and one small piece of fruit. Snack: 6-8oz non fat greek yogurt or 1/2 cup FF cottage cheese. Dinner: 4oz lean meat and unlimited non-starchy veggies. Snack: 1/2 cup veggies. I can have unlimited veggies all day as well as needed. I did make one great discovery this morning. Our NUT said not to knock ourselves our looking for the perfect Protein powder. She recommends dried non fat milk. She did say that my favorite Protein Shake, EAS Carb Advantage does NOT meat the dietery requirements as they are too low in carbs and calories, but with the addition of nonfat dried milk, they are perfect. Mixed one in a blender with 1 cup of crushed ice and 1/3 cup of the powdered milk and the stats are: 190 cal/ 16 carbs/ 3 fat/ 25 protein. Rich, creamy and much more like an ice cream shake. Next to start adding SF coffee syrups to add variety. What a barrel of fun I am! From mixing cocktails that would make your pants fall off in the sorority house to mixing Protein drinks in my own home to make the pounds fall of. HA!! I'm officially old.

This should be fun for the whole family!
LipstickLady replied to LipstickLady's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
That WOULD be hard. I feel for you. That said, you can do anything for 5 days. Just tell yourself that everytime you inhale/exhale and sleep your way through it as much as possible. Hugs to you!! -
This should be fun for the whole family!
LipstickLady replied to LipstickLady's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I'm still besties with many of my sorority sisters (and yes, it was 18 years ago that we graduated). We have a private FB group and we've noticed the shift of talk from drinking and dating and hangovers to recipes, husbands and report cards. UGH. I have tried Premier and I like them, too. They are still too low in carbs for my NUT to approve, but the higher calorie count works. I am saving those until after surgery when I need more calorie per sip. Love the coffee idea! I made one the other day with coconut and almond sf syrup, and it resembled a mocha coconut frap from Starbucks. YUM! It did need the coffee flavor for sure. -
Avocado smoosh sounds YUMMY!

Agree with Richard. This procedure was actually used 20-30 years ago along with a piece of mesh as a first attempt at weight loss surgery and was very successful. I can only imagine that the quality if stitches and stitch line has gotten better over the years.

Would you rather have flappy skin or filled out with fat skin? Not trying to be flip (ok, well....just a little), but that's the bottom line. No matter how you lose weight, you are going to have skin.

Surgeon's office just called and told me I have to see a cardiologist because I have a prolonged QT wave. Of course, I googled it and I have none of the symptoms, and none of the problems associated. Surgery is less than two and a half weeks away and now I'm a bit freaked out. Anyone have or know of this?

Prolonged QT Wave?
LipstickLady replied to LipstickLady's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks. I've been googling my little Prolonged QT wave heart out. HA! Stupidity at it's finest. -
Perhaps you could have half of your Protein drink before walking and half after? You need some sugar energy in your system to get you going after eating so little and then nothing after 8 hours of sleep. Wait. You have kids? Six hours of sleep.

On MyFitnessPal, you can go to: HOME GOALS CHANGE GOALS And input what you want for pre-op calories, Protein, Carbs, Fiber or whatever else your NUT wants you to focus on. I put in 1000 cals (too many, but the closest I could get with the right protein), 125g carbs (we only need 120 but again, the closest I could get), 75g protein (which is exactly what my doct and NUT want) and 25 grams of fiber. Now I can count down WITHOUT referring back to my book constantly. I am not in pre-op yet, but I am trying to ease down and it's annoying to see I have so much left over each day. Just an FYI! Pre-op starts Thursday for 2 weeks, surgery on the 16th.

WW and medical history, help!
LipstickLady replied to xcillax's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have BCBS, too. They accepted my WWs. I also had a two year gap, but I was able to give them stuff from 7 years ago, too. -
Yup! I had anthem, too. Think of anything you've done that you've gotten weighed. Flu shot? OBGYN? WWs counts! I have BCBS, too.

Nah. My surgeon couldn't care less about my IUD. His quote was that he's "not operating down there" so it doesn't matter.

I had a ring. Hated it. I took the pill for about 20 years (ages 13 - 35ish) to control my heavy flow and after all that time, you'd think I'd mastered taking it daily. As soon as I got the ring, I popped it in (HA! As if it is THAT easy!) and forgot about it. It would be in there for 45 days, 60 days, etc. Never did I remember to change it. My Mirena, I LOVE. I am on my second one. My period is one pink wipe every few months, my debilitating cramps are gone, it lasts for 5 years with no problems and it took about 15 seconds for my doc to insert. It hurts like a b***h on the way out, but that only takes about 30 seconds, too, so it's totally worth it.

Waffling, Waffling, Waffling
LipstickLady replied to CharmingTortoise's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I keep asking myself if I REALLY need the surgery, too. My stats are similar as I am 5'3 and about 5 pounds more than you now. I am also 41 and have NO co-morbidities. Like everyone here, I have tried everything. I lost 88 pounds on WWs in 7 months one go around but was highly discouraged because I couldn't become a lifetime member as they felt I needed to lose 30 more. I was already a size 8/10 and that would have put me in a 2/4 and for my frame, I would have looked ridiculous. As I have on all my diets, I gained all my weight back plus a couple dozen of it's friends. I started my pre-op diet 11 days ago and have lost 13.4 pounds so I know what to do. I am physically active. I have no back pain. I have no joint pain. I have no reflux or high ANYTHING other than my hair. I am on no meds. I know I can lose it on my own, but I also know that I can gain it all back without a backwards glance. I need to do this before I get older and before my physical health starts to suffer. I know how bad it is for my heart to yo-yo diet and that's what I've been doing for the last 20 years. I want to be a healthy role model for my teenage girls. I want to continue being physically active and keep up with my kids. I don't want to be the "fat mom" anymore, nor do I want to lose weight with the thought in the back of my mind that everyone's thinking "here she goes again, wonder how long it will last THIS time". I am DONE doing it the non-surgical way because it is not long term for me. I am so excited about the 16th of May, I can hardly stand it. WOOOOOOOOT! -
Pre-op diet causing ......
LipstickLady replied to cls8402's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Make sure you are drinking a lot. You don't want to get dehydrated before surgery.
