Post Surgical Diet & eating out

When I eat out, I look at the apps and the sides. I have no need to order a meal as I can only take a few ounces in anyways. More often than not, I eat a bowl of soup. When I was immediately post op, I asked for more broth than the stuff inside and restaurants were happy to comply. I make sure I look up the restaurant I am going to ahead of time so I can decide what I want. I also make sure I make suggestions about where we are going to so know there is something I can eat. Lately, I've been doing a lot of Mexican. I order one soft taco, lose the shell, eat the meat, cheese and sour cream. lunch has been costing me about $2! Love that.

    pancakes

I nibbled at about an ounce of a waffle. I think because it was crispy, it went down better than a spongy pancake would. It was all I could handle and it satisfied that funky craving. This was at 8 weeks out.

    Liquid diet nightmare!

It won't curb your appetite as much as it will just make everything taste bad. I rinse with something strong like Listerine when I bake so I am not tempted to taste.

    When can i eat?

I'll just make you eat the can.
  5. Go for it! I was called mean for questioning the logic of eating a few wontons 5 days post op during the liquid phase, so who am I to advise anyone that they stick with their surgeon's advice? Good luck to you!

Girl, I'll beat you with the can then shove it up your..... Nose.

    When can i eat?

Eeeeeek! Last I checked, applesauce will go through a strainer but wonton wrappers won't. I'd love the name of your Chinese restaurant so I can avoid it. No one was "jumping your ass", you read that into it yourself. Don't think that people don't care about others here, you old be VERY wrong about that. If you are endangering yourself by making bad choices, people are going to stand up and say so. Personally, I would much rather that then be enabled to make risky decisions.

    When can i eat?

Awesome! You got the answer you wanted! I hope that advice trumps that medical degree of the surgeon you entrusted your life with.

    When can i eat?

Wontons aren't included on the mushy food list, so you are skipping past liquid, mushy and into soft/solid. Yes, some people tolerate food better than others but I'd hate for you to find out that you are not one if them the hard way. I'd recommend you use this time to figure out why you are unwilling or unable to stick to your surgeon's plan. Talk to your doctor about your options, too. I could have smooth yogurt, pudding, Jello, cream strained Soups and shakes during my full liquid stage. Perhaps you can find one thicker options. I'm confused on why you might be offended that some are looking out for your best interest by stating fact; wontons aren't liquid and your doctor knows best. It seems that you were looking for approval only, so why even bother to ask?

    Most embarassing moment so far

I went 15 days total without making a poodle. Don't worry about Protein for your first week or two, just keep yourself hydrated. If you can get down a vanilla greek yogurt, that's great if you can't handle the shakes. The first week is the worst but it does get better. Just keep in mind that as long as you are on all liquids, een full liquids like Soups, your poops will most likely be puddles. Buy flushable baby wipes, too. Your bum will thank you.
  11. I would have told the doctor about the experience. Then, I would have followed up with a letter addressed to all the doctors in the practice exactly what was said to you and by whom. That witch should be fired. On the record.

    Most embarassing moment so far

I learned early on in this process never to trust a fart. Just when you start to get comfortable, SHART happens. I did it at the pool the other day. I thought I had a gas bubble and it wasn't. Fortunately, I wasn't in the Water and I was able to "contain" the incident until I got to the locker room. Thank GAWD for showers at the gym, right? I am 8 weeks out so you'd think my body would have figured all this out, but nope. I am now carrying a change of clothes in the car with me at all times. Yup. Like you would for a toddler. Suck it up. It's happened to most of us, it will happen again. You are so lucky to have someone that loves you enough to accept this and help you through it. This will be funny in a few weeks, I promise.
  13. I am not Muslim but I love to learn about other cultures and would like to know about the reasons behind fasting. I love the idea of having the option to feed others as I do a lot of volunteer work at a women's shelter. Do you pick an underprivileged person or family to feed?
  14. Not really. Protein shakes, yogurt, pudding...

    Soup Question

I didn't make a poodle for 13 days, 2 days pre-op and 11 days post. I finally took a colace and it helped things along. I felt like singing for the rest of the day, too. In fact, I think I did.

Did you eat grits in post- op?

    You eat grits? On purpose?

    Carbonation

Carbonation will not stretch your sleeve, but it can/might leave you full and uncomfortable. It will take up room in your sleeve that is better utilized for Protein and fluids that will not dehydrate you like caffeine will. What is your logic to not drinking coke/coke like products that doesn't apply to red bull?

    Carbonation

Only if you get it wet.
  19. It's normal to have weight fluctuations and you will almost always weigh more at night than in the AM. I weigh myself once a day, same time, same level of nudity and log it. I then weigh myself a million more times a day just to see. It doesn't make me crazy, but if it makes you so, don't do it. You may be seeing Water weight, your period may be about to start, it could be that you were dehydrated one day or ate too much salt (again with the water weight). There are tons of variables that will make you fluctuate from day to day so weigh if you must (I must) but look at your weekly or bi weekly trend, not your daily trend. Are you logging everything you eat? Even the drinks? If you are staying within your guidelines, you will lose weight. Be patient. It's hard, but it's doable.

    How things changes

I hear ya! I get full off one soft taco at our favorite place ($1.75 -- cheap date), minus the tortilla and lettuce. That said, three bananas? I wouldn't poo for a month!
  21. My doctor said that because he didn't operate "down there", sex was ok when ready. We waited about 5 or 6 days.
  22. What is the pain like? Where is it? I hate to hear that you are so uncomfortable! Are your pain meds helping?

    First bite of pureed foods

My first taste of food after liquid was KFC mashed taters and gravy per my NUT's advice. They are low fat, thin and so tasty. It was the best thing ever after three weeks of almost all sweet protein shakes, yogurt and pudding.
  24. I m 9 weeks out today and it wasn't until 7 weeks out that I stopped taking my nausea meds almost daily. I still take them, along with my tummy cramping meds, here and there but the need is tapering off quickly now. I hate being nauseous so I feel your pain! No shame in taking meds for it!
