So, MFP is not sabotaging you, YOU are. Why not simply lower your calories a bit?

    Driving...Post Operation

Surgery on Wednesday, home on Thursday, drove on Friday.
  3. I am an expert on no one's surgery but my own (and by my own, I mean ME and what my NUT and surgeon have done, not sleevers in general), but basically what I've been told to follow for life is high protein/low carb. More of South Beach than Atkins, but the same general idea with healthy complex carbs in place of no carbs.
  4. This is my first response to this thread or to you, so I do hope you will take my words as sincere with no intention of being rude or disrespectful. It seems to me that you are looking for validation for your actions, not input, and I think that's absolutely OK. Why do I assume this? It seems to me that you are rejecting the words of anyone who is not in full agreement with what you are doing or what you say your surgeon has approved. Again, that's totally your prerogative, but by asking for opinion, you are opening the door to get exactly those. Some of our biggest success stories here have given you input and it saddens me that you are brushing them off as if they are worthless. This is a forum for support and learning, and those things come even in words we don't necessarily want to hear. I would suggest that if you truly only want a cheering section (which again, is perfectly acceptable), that you simply say what you are doing, that you are feeling great (YAY! I'm so glad that you are!) and that you are losing at a rate that makes both you and your surgeon happy. Personally, at your stage, I was on purees. I didn't start on solid foods, like tortillas, until 3+ months out. In fact, I still cannot eat 1/3 of a tortilla at almost 10 months out because they fill me up so solidly I feel sick and uncomfortable after the third nibble. Right now, your new tummy is tender, numb and healing. You cannot feel everything that is going on with it. While I do not agree with the person who keeps insisting that you are stretching it (something that is next to impossible to stretch very much), it is very possible that you are over filling yourself without knowing it. I was told, when I hit pureed, not to eat more than 2-3 tablespoons of food. At 6 months, I was given the OK to eat up to 1/2 or 3/4 of a cup, something I am still not very successful at, in one sitting. I saw that you were previously told that your new tummy would hold about 3 oz. By eating a 1/2 cup, you are exceeding amount already, and that concerns me, but if it doesn't concern you, all is well. Something my nurse told me that I still have to remind myself of? Just because you *CAN* eat it, doesn't mean you *SHOULD*. You made a huge step in the right direction towards good health. Maximize this honeymoon period by eating all the right things in as little quantity (but maximum quality) that you can. This isn't about starving yourself, I'm certainly not interested in doing that, but about relearning good habits while your capacity if very limited and the drive to eat is at it's least. As a host, I am going to respectfully as that you change your username because I do think it's detrimental to our community. I do hope that you will come back and reread the intentions of these posts as they are meant, not as attacks (for the most part) but as support. I do see where some would ruffle your feathers, and those are best ignored. You have a lot to learn and a lot to add, I am sure. This is great place and I would love to see you get everything you can out of here.
  5. I'm for it in the a Richmond VA area. I've already met 5 people from this board and some of us have formed a mini group. Our hospital has a group but it meets irregularly, so... Interested!

    Protein bars

I'm one that does to like quest bars. Gross. Oh yeah bars are the way to go! Not a fan of the victory bars, but the candy crunch and brownie bars are awesome.
  7. It completely floors me that someone would be so negative about another's weight loss journey on a weight loss forum. Note. No sarcasm there.

Family plunged into panic mode :(

Very odd. I looked all over for research supporting this and can't find anything. Interesting theory, though!

Family plunged into panic mode :(

I'd love to see research on the idea that metabolism will triple post op. Not challenging you, this is just a curious thing to hear. I've had several major surgeries and never was this mentioned as a side effect.

Family plunged into panic mode :(

Where did you hear that surgery speeds metabolism?

    I hate it when...

I hibernated for the protection of others. I wanted to cut someone the first few days.

cancelled surgery for a third time!

    Why was it canceled?

    I hate it when...

People are just trying to be nice. Instead of concentrating on the words that YOU might have chosen, think about the intent in which the message was sent. I hear you (I promise I do as most people p!ss me off on a daily basis with their ignorance) but I do think your (totally natural) stress and anxiety is working you up about nothing.

    How's your new life?

    Two words: FREAKING AWESOME.
  16. Don't get me wrong! I think everyone should learn to write in cursive and read it, I just can't read the itty bitty computer font here on these forums and I tend to skip those posts. I taught my kids handwriting because the schools didn't. They need to be able to sign their names, right?
  17. The cursive font makes me nuts. It's next to impossible to read on my iPad and I know I'm missing valuable input from our members who use this pretty script. Maybe I'm old, perhaps I need glasses, most likely I'm just crotchety, but I wish it wasn't an option. Argh! Make an old girl happy and pick another font. Please?
  18. 100 pounds in a year is great, especially with all the stress, travel and functions involved with his career. Good for him!

I'm trying to come to terms with the idea that...

That's why I said on the OUTSIDE. Ha! xxxooo
  20. Yes, the one that looks like script, not print.

Why is my doctor pushing for bypass?

I went through 4 months of my 6 month process being pushed into bypass by both my original surgeon and his NP. They grudgingly agreed to do what I wanted but made my feel like crap about my decision with each visit. While I was fat as a house, I had no other health issues and all my research pointed to the sleeve. I knew that I would not stick to the "right" diet 100%, that I would NOT take Vitamins forever and that I did not want to risk dumping. (Yes, I know it's possible with the sleeve but much less likely.) I finally got POed enough to seek out the opinion of a second doctor who, in the seminar, was a huge advocate of the sleeve unless one was diabetic or extremely severely obese. I switched docs, started the process over and am thrilled with my choice. The bottom line? My original doctor is an fabulous surgeon who has 30+ excellent years of experience. He's done 1000s of bypass procedures and is well below the statistical average of complications. That said, he's only done about 100 sleeves. My actual surgeon only has about 15 years of experience, but has done 1000+ bypass and just as many sleeves. He was more up on the newer procedures and is not in a rut of what he "knows". He cared more about ME than about his known "specialty". I made the right choice and you will, too.
  22. I'm 5.3 and started at 264. I lost 100 pounds in 7 months and feel great. I can't tell you what would be best for you, but I can tell you why I chose the sleeve. First, I was deathly afraid of dumping. I am not a huge sugar eater but I wanted to live as normal of a life as possible. I know too many people who get deathly ill after bypass and I didn't want to explain my surgery to anyone if I turned out to be a dumper. Second, I hate swallowing pills. I knew I would start out great and eventually stop taking them. I knew that with my sleeve, I still need to ( but I don't) and I'm going to be ok. (My levels are tested every 6 months and they were great except for my D which I've always been deficient in. Dammit.) Third, malabsorption. It scared me. I didn't want to risk it. Fourth, I had three friends who sleeved a year before me and their results were great and their healing process was so much easier than the bypass people I know. For ME, the sleeve was right. I'm sure you will figure out what's best for you.
