Vets: foods you personally can't tolerate?
LipstickLady replied to NMJG's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Please don't take that stuff the wrong way! Your entitled to your opinion you'll see when your 6+ months out, you'll completely understand where we are coming from and by no means is it meant to hurt your feelings. Were just coming from a place of love and concern for our follow sleevers Absolutely! You are a gown up and can do/eat whatever you choose. I simply want you to have the best possible results and testing your limits, especially so early out, is not the best course of action *in my opinion*. -
Vets: foods you personally can't tolerate?
LipstickLady replied to NMJG's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My concern, and I'm not trying to jump on ya', just explaining myself as I know every doctor has a different plan... Why are you trying bread and doughnuts and ice cream and fried foods? This is your time to maximize your weight loss. I realize you may be having only a baby spoon or so, but I can't imagine that those foods are in any WLS doc's plan. -
I eat too fast, any tips?
LipstickLady replied to Amanda121279's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I bought a few sets of cocktail utensils to use. Each home I took a bite, I would get up and walk a lap around my house after swallowing. This helped me get my steps in and more importantly, it helped me burp when I was newly sleeved. -

Vets: foods you personally can't tolerate?
LipstickLady replied to NMJG's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
10.5 months out here. chicken is rough on me unless it is chopped finely against the grain. I can eat crumbled ground beef, but not a hamburger. If I do eat something like meatloaf or meatballs, the meat has to be 80/20 or fattier, no more 94/6 like I've always bought. Scrambled eggs are good, hard boiled whites are not. Soft bread sticks horribly as does Pasta. That's a good thing because I love bread and now it makes me feel so bad, I don't want it. I definitely have days that I can only eat soft and other days that I can eat firm Protein. It's bizarre. -
1 week post op - possible infection
LipstickLady replied to Cychored's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Looks more like bruising than infection. I'm thinking you are ok. I'm not a doctor, so do what makes you comfortable. -

HA! REALLY?? I find the opposite all the time. I won't go farther than that as this is not the place to create more hostility. -
Is there a way to see if your stomach has stretched out?
LipstickLady replied to throwaway557's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
And my doc said no soda because it causes it discomfort, gas, bloating and takes up valuable room that should be used for Protein. I was also told the high acid content is bad for our stomachs. Never have I heard about the stretching at the bottom of our stomachs before this very moment. I will send my surgeon an email inquiry about that today. -
Is there a way to see if your stomach has stretched out?
LipstickLady replied to throwaway557's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That article contradicts what three surgeons told me. I was advised our stomachs will not stretch significantly as the stretchy part was cut out and the muscle was left intact. It will relax, but not restretch. -
Celebrate your success!! No need for speed. How awesome is it that you can even finish it??

It really doesn't make a big difference. -

Three Weeks Without Weight Loss
LipstickLady replied to StJimmy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not a unique situation at all. Weight loss is not always going to be constant and everyone has plateaus from time to time. It's not really considered a stall until you've been stuck for 3+ months, so you've got some time before you should be concerned. I agree that 2000 calories is a lot, especially as you are not working out more than average. That said, I don't feel qualified to give you the answer you are seeking as NO ONE here is qualified to give you much more than a guess. A clear and precise answer is something you need to seek out via your surgeon and/or NUT. -
Size 9, lost 111 pounds so far and am now 8 or 8.5. Sigh. All my danskos are falling off my feet. I'm so sad.

Normal! I couldn't get more than 20oz of Fluid a day and was on mushies/soft for about 6 weeks. I had to take spasm and nausea meds with all meals or I would vomit. I foamed like a car wash with every meal and still do occasionally. I was exhausted for the first 6 weeks, but functioning. M At the 6 week mark, it was like a switch was pulled. I could drink a bit more, eat a bit more, still no appetite which was awesome --that was the point, right? I felt so much better, I could exercise more and the weight loss was really starting to show. Hang in there! You'll be fine soon enough!

Just wish I could make a decision!

If I had diabetes, I'd go bypass. That's a scary disease and if you can knock it out, you should. -
I am freaking out, it it normal,
LipstickLady replied to nancy264's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Girl, you don't even know how much your life is about to change. This is truly the best decision I have EVER made for myself. I am finally ME again. I can do anything I want to do (and some things I never thought I could do). I can wear anything I want to wear (or I can wear nothing at all ). I am no longer self conscious about the way I look. I no longer worry about who I might run into. I no longer care if my hair and face are perfect and if I feel like running out in workout clothes, I do. I can buy a cookie or a frozen yogurt and eat it *in public* without feeling like that fatty everyone is staring at. I no longer think anyone is looking in my grocery cart judging me. I am FINALLY a normal sized person and actually bordering on being thin. WHAT UP!?!?! Seriously, the best decision EVER. -
Is there a way to see if your stomach has stretched out?
LipstickLady replied to throwaway557's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What's your goal? I don't mean a weight goal, but your overall goal? Do you want to lose weight? Get healthy? Lower obesity related health risks? You created a throw away user name. You said you wanted no encouragement. You've said "I can't" to some very solid advice above. Most importantly, you don't want to go to the doctor who can answer your questions far better than anyone here and who can give you much better advice to get you to where you want to be. To answer your initial question. The stretchy part of your stomach was cut out leaving the muscle. Your capacity will increase over time, but your max should be 8oz or so at a sitting. The cottage cheese test above will answer that. liquids only for a few days will help you feel the restriction better as well as get you back into low carbs, high Protein. It's not meant to be forever, but a way to help you get back on track. I am going to do it once a month or so, just to keep my head in the game. It's not fun, but it's not impossible either. It sounds as if you are grazing. Are you eating because you are hungry or because you can? If you are hungry, my guess is you aren't eating the right foods. If it's because you CAN, you are choosing to fail yourself. It's time for you to be honest with YOU for YOUR benefit. Good luck to you! -
How long did you take off work for your VSG?
LipstickLady replied to pattyor's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I work from home. I had surgery Wednesday, I was home on Thursday and was working on Monday. I was very tired, but since I could work from my couch or me bed, it was not big deal. My exhaustion was lack of nutrients, not physical pain or discomfort. If I didn't work from home, I would have wanted a week off max. -
I was in a private room and had excellent care. I was out in 24 hours by choice. No need to stay in the hospital when I could rest better at home!
-
I just can't imagine any surgeon who would ok sugary foods, fried foods or rice, especially so soon. What else is on your eating plan?
-
WOW! You are quite adventurous for only a month out. chocolate? Fried foods? Ribs? Sushi? I don't think I ventured into those territories for at least six months and I've still not had anything fried at 10.5 months out. Your doctor must have a VERY progressive eating plan for you. I was on soft foods through week 6 and was then cleared to start trying new things after that. Good luck to you!
