Tale of a bariatric diet goody-two-shoes...

I have sushi with fellow sleevers at least once a week. Yum! Did you know some places will make riceless sushi with cucumber instead of rice? Fabulous!

Tale of a bariatric diet goody-two-shoes...

And I know I can only eat 2-4 ounces so I want maximum flavor out of each bite. No more bland food for me.

Tale of a bariatric diet goody-two-shoes...

I'm fairly lazy (but I prefer to call myself super freaking busy) and I am doing my best not to fall into a diet rut. I've finally started branching out from my regular staples of cheese and beef Jerky to a lot of pre-prepped food from gourmet groceries like Whole Foods and Fresh Market. I never bought too much before, but now that I can only eat a few ounces, it's really not expensive. Shrimp salad, chicken salad (the fancy stuff!), sushi, mini crab cakes, ceviche, boneless ribs, meatballs... I can get any of these items for a meal for just a few bucks and it keeps me interested. I also keep lunch meat in the fridge for roll ups along with avocado for yum. My "naughty" fast food? Cheese hot dogs, pre-cooked chicken sausages, precooked bacon, imitation crab legs and peel and eat shrimp.

    Hard to feed your kids?

I had the same concern for my family, having two kids ages 14 and 16. I kept it simple by cooking up a few pounds of taco meat for salads, nachos, burritos, etc. and freezing it in one pound increments to be used when I had absolutely no energy to cook. I also made a froze a few gallons of chili, beef stew, and meatballs. I always have lunch meat on hand for hot sandwiches (they love paninis) and they can make those themselves. Cereal is always on hand as is pb&j. I also keep bacon in the fridge for blts. All low cost, low energy options...

    Read the research!

I don't agree with your thoughts that the VSG is metabolic, but I do agree with your thought process that people should learn about each procedure so they can make an educated decision.

If you look on the right hand side of your messaging screen, you can see if the PM you sent was read or not. Just an FYI.

It's all good. I was just commenting on what *I* felt, not what anyone else was *doing*.

    The Bariatric Foodie

How funny is it that we are all/were fat (and got here somehow!), yet I feel sort of judged about canned cream of mushroom Soup. Yes, we all do choose what to put in our bodies. It's pretty clear that 99% of us sucked that one up.

i found a lump on my breast and i'm petrified

I have lumpy boobies. It runs in the family. There's a great chance it's nothing, but seeing the doctor ASAP for peace of mind is worth it.

I would! My thoughts are with you.
  14. I promise you, nobody really cares about how much you eat. If you don't make a big deal out of it, they won't even notice.

    Ice cream?

I am not a sweets person, but my one sweet favorite was ice cream. Now I can't handle more than a few tablespoons without vomiting. Eeeek! I don't even miss it.

    Feeling like a failure

Fourteen months out and I still foam and heave more than most. One bite too many and it's over. Problem is, my "too many" might be after 1/4 cup or at 1 cup, I never know till it's too late. I'm happy for the tight restriction, but I still have a learning curve.
  17. If it can't go through the strainer, you shouldn't have it. You can sip the liquid, just skip the chunks.
  18. I loved Phentermine. I had great success with losing weight, no appetite, tremendous energy, loved it. The minute I went off it, I was ravenous and gained back all the weight plus some. This happened at least three times before I gave it up. Good stuff but not a permanent habit.

    Bye

I love spicy food! Yum yum! No need to say goodbye to anything so change that mindset. You will most likely be able to eat anything, you just might not want to. I'm an oddball and I can no longer eat more than a nibble of bread, Pasta, rice or ice cream, all of which used to be favorites. They make me feel like holy hell. In fact, I feel so bad after, I no longer WANT them and I don't miss them at all. I figure that I ate more than my share of these foods over the last 42 years, I've exhausted my supply. My body says no more and that's ok. I'm fit, healthy and look darn good in my clothes. No bread is a small price to pay.

    Depressed and Scared...will this work?

Totally disagree on the bean thing. Great source of Protein, healthy carbs and fiber! There are good carbs and bad carbs. These are the good guys.

    Three strikes and your out

EEEEEEK! I'd be P!SSED about the lack of professionalism of the staff. As a business owner, I am very much into excellent customer service so perhaps I am a bit sensitive, but I get irritated when a cashier rolls her eyes at a customer, when a customer service desk employee mutters about the person they just got off the phone with, etc. To me, this is much worse. If they are talking badly about a patient who was a no show to such a major life changing event, what might they be saying about any other patient? Assuming the patient didn't have an unforeseen emergency blocking them from coming, isn't it better they "chickened out" before surgery rather than physically alter their body forever when they were uncertain that this was their best decision? There are people who post on these very boards that may have been better off if they were a no show vs. where they are and what they are feeling now.

Why are some weight loss surgery patients so clueless?

    I've got one!! Did you hear about the constipated mathematician? l l l l l l l He worked his problem out with a pencil. l l l l l l l l l It was a number 2 pencil.
  24. I have one between my boobs, too!! Freaked out about that one and the two on my hips. The nurse at my surgeon's office laughed at me a bit before easing my mind by telling me that those bumps are commonly known as bones. Most people have them, mine were just hidden before.
