I've not read any of the responses, but I find your post completely offensive and honestly, quite ridiculous and purposefully inflamatory. You don't know me, you don't know how private I am and just because I don't feel the need to spread my personal business to the general public does not mean I am "ashamed", "afraid" or "dishonest". I don't need to justify my decision to keep my medical history to myself, and it's quite baffling to me that one would start such an inflammatory or derogatory post on a board that is meant to support others in a like situation. It's 100% your business if you want to shout about your WLS decision from the rooftops just as it is MY business to share it with only a select few. I have no idea why you care about MY decisions and why such a personal decision has to be made into an us vs. them debate. I would never feel the need to bash the decision of a woman who chooses to go to work over staying at home as I did. I would never devalue someone who chose to wait until they were 500+ pounds before having surgery or decides not to exercise or until was deep into diabetes before they sought help. It's none of my business if someone believes in God or Buddha or gay marriage or plural marriage. I don't care if you choose the sleeve, the band or bypass. I don't care if you cover your grey hair or go natural. Thongs vs. granny panties? None of my business. You're a cat person? I hate cats but that doesn't take away from your decision. I could go on forever, but I won't because I have MUCH MORE valuable things to waste my time worrying about, thinking about or discussing. Would you also like to know how much money I make? How much my house cost? Perhaps I should show you the contents of my underwear drawer or tell you the details of my sex life. Do you want to know many sexual partners have I had? I'm not ashamed. Yeesh! By the same logic, I should be loud and proud about all of the above, too. It's not my job to be a symbol, a learning tool or an advocate for WLS unless I choose to be. Thank goodness I am extremely secure in my decision to keep my WLS private. Shame on you if you think your post was helpful or respectful in any way. Amazing.

Overwhelmed at the thought of the new way of life I will have to adapt
LipstickLady replied to MauiGirl5555's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't think recovery was bad at all. I don't have a particularly high tolerance for pain, but I left the hospital the day after surgery, went home and was out shopping the next day. I was tired, nauseated, and a bit sore, but I was fine. I had to take anti nausea meds for about three months and I had (have) a slight stricture, so I stayed on liquids/purées for about 2 months. That sucked, but I had no desire to eat much so it was no big deal. I was seriously fine. Absolute truth. I think the worst part was the nausea whenever I ate but the meds took care of that, and the fatigue. The fatigue left at three weeks so, again, no big deal. -
Take pictures in the same place (a doorframe is perfect), in the same outfit (same idea when it's too big, white tank and yoga pants for example), every week. Front, back and side. You will love the difference. Plus, if you "stall" on the scale, you will still SEE the changes.

One day at a time. Your hormone levels are all out of whack as is everything you know as "normal" as far as your eating habits. You are tired, your body is healing, you are completely entitled to a melt down once in awhile. Kiss your family, tell them you love them and that you will be back to normal in a few weeks.

Bariatric surgery causes alcoholism?
LipstickLady replied to Timmy2shirts's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Almost 17 months out here and while I will have a few drinks here and there, I've not become an alcoholic yet. -
One day at a time. If that doesn't work, one meal at a time. And if that doesn't work, one hour at a time. You can do this. It's You're worth it.

Tmi I know but I have to ask
LipstickLady replied to auntiemel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yup. Poop soup, pee pee dirt, water poop, 17 months out and I still have this issue. It's slowing down, but when I've gotta go, it's NOW. -
What really pisses me off is other WLS folk who choose to share and are judgemental towards those of us who don't. We aren't liars, we aren't ashamed, we just don't feel the need to explain, justify or be defined by this decision. Sorry. Off topic.

I thought y'all were exaggerating! FREEZING!
LipstickLady replied to SparkleCat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I sink. I freeze. I can no longer move heavy objects. It's weird. -

I regularly wear leggings, socks, a tank and a long sleeved T to bed. I sleep under a sheet, blanket and a down comforter, too. I have the heat on in the car all the time and I live in southern VA. It's crazy. -
A "surprise" during my sleeve operation
LipstickLady replied to norcalkitty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had one, too. It was big and ugly so they took it out. Nothing was said about no longer taking BC pills, though. -
Im sure this has been discussed to death...
LipstickLady replied to Abigail13's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It never hurts to stop at a smaller portion and then wait. I'm 16.5 months out. 1/2 will satisfy me for a two hours or so, depending on how active I am. -

I love deviled eggs. I can usually only eat half, I don't worry about the fat from the mayo because I don't worry about fat and I don't use that much. I make mine as flavorful as possible with horseradish, bacon bits or mustard, too. I have figured out that I need a strong punch of flavor to be satisfied. Edamame is another staple. I prefer hot, but cold will do in a pinch and the time it takes to eat them calms me need to eat a lot, fast. -

Easy answer, for real. When you are tempted to reach for the carbs, give yourself permission to eat a few bites of something you will truly enjoy. Before you eat it, though, have a hardboiled egg, a chunk of cheese, a palmful of almonds or a slice or two of lunchmeat. Wait 10-15 minutes and then enjoy your carbs. I would bet you will only eat a bite or two if you even choose to have any at all. I keep cheese cubes in the fridge at all times. I only buy my most favorite of cheeses, and I buy the expensive stuff, full fat and full flavor. I also keep roast beef, deviled eggs and some sort of shrimp salad in the fridge at all times so if I'm starving, I can grab and go. Being prepared is a huge deal because most grab and go stuff that is pre prepared is carbs and that doesn't hold me long. And beef Jerky. I always have beef jerky! -
Agreed. Hurtful and sh!tty? Yup. Should she be reported, absolutely. More than that? Not at all.

Having surgery is still sinking in.

Girl ... the best is yet to come. And then a few months later, it gets better. Then it gets great! Celebrate each success. -

Sorry. We will have to agree to disagree. I'm not really into this trend of calling bad behavior "bullying", "fat shaming", etc. I do think there are obvious examples of it, but sometimes people are just ignorant asshats, no label needed.
-
I don't think at all that this is "fat shaming" but I do think this was a perfect example of someone who is in real need of sensitivity training. I would make some phone calls, write a letter and send some emails about how you were treated immediately. You are on the path to better health but in the meantime, it's very important that you demand to be treated with the dignity and respect you deserve. Hugs, girl. You are amazing now and you are going to be amazing post op, too.

If you love it so much, why don't you MARRY it!?!?
LipstickLady replied to LipstickLady's topic in Food and Nutrition
Oddly, I am not at all a fan of roasted edamame. -

I try to snack on things that take a bit more effort so it slows me down a little. Beef Jerky and edamame are two favorites. -
Dumping syndrome? Tmi
LipstickLady replied to vbm510's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sorry you went through that! I wouldn't discount all dairy, though. I'd suggest trying small amounts of various products, first. I cannot eat "better" ice cream like Ben and Jerry's or Haagan Daz. I can only eat 1/4 or so of fro-yo or less rich brands of ice cream but more makes me hurl. I've never had a problem with cheese, pudding cups, greek yogurt. Weird, huh?
