Mindless eating and daily no no's ...
LipstickLady replied to ChristyAZ's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Crunch. I love crunch. I snack on almonds, baked chick peas (costco), cheese crisps, and Protein chips from bariatric food websites. Cheese crisp recipe: http://www.joyfulabode.com/low-carb-snacks-homemade-baked-cheese-crisps-recipe/ -

Recommend Blenders?
LipstickLady replied to Beautiful Mess's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh, yes! That's a huge one. Many of those blenders throw a lot of air in your shake and that makes for a LOT of burping, foaming and fullness, at least it did for me. Great point. -
Recommend Blenders?
LipstickLady replied to Beautiful Mess's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I bought a bullet, I bought a ninja, I bought a smoothie machine, I tried them all. I then realized I hated the pureed stage, I only needed my blender for a few weeks and I am never going back. So...I returned them all and just used my Osterizer retro honeycomb blender that I bought when we got married. It's finally been used for something other than margaritas! If it chops ice, that's all you need IMO, unless you love pureed food, which I don't. My kids use my blender all the time for smoothies and milk shakes, so it's sufficient for those needs. Consider how long you are really going to use it/need it before you spend a lot of money on it. -
Eighteen months (and one day!) out here. I burp all the time. In fact, I eat 3-4 bites and I hope/pray for a burp to surface so I can eat 3-4 more bites. I do this little neck stretch thing that my kids make fun of to force one out, I "burp" myself and if I am desperate, I run up the steps and back down real quick. I don't see it going away any time soon. You will get used to it.

GOING TO SLEEP HUNGRY

So you haven't had surgery and aren't on preop? Just eat something. Yogurt, cottage cheese, almonds, anything high in Protein, low in carbs. -

Telling about surgery
LipstickLady replied to kimpossible67's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Kim... No apologies. You did nothing wrong. I welcome discussion and debate as long as it stay respectful. I totally support your choices and hold no judgement over those who want to tell the world about their personal decisions, I just wish it was the same in reverse. If the "other side" were to say, "I choose to tell everyone because **I** would feel dishonest or as if **I** was lying", this discussion/debate would be much more civil. Instead, there are a few here that insist that anyone who doesn't do what they do are "liars/dishonest" and that's rude, judgemental, and offensive. Big difference between "I would feel like a liar" and "YOU'RE a liar", don't you think? -
Feeling Hesitant...
LipstickLady replied to iwanttofitin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are normal to feel this way. Hold off, but don't quit. Put your surgery date off, but don't cancel. Work on a 6 month goal and see how you do on your own. Low carb was my perceived nightmare, it's easy now. I can't eat bread, rice potatoes because they make me feel horrid. Yuck but yay! You can't know how changing this is till you do it. Wait until you're ready. -

Telling about surgery

Since the topic was so eloquently brought up, I thought I would share MY reason for not telling the public at large about my decision to have WLS. No, I am not ashamed, embarrassed nor am I being dishonest with myself. I am not protecting myself from ridicule or dissension and I do not care if my decision is a popular one or unpopular. I know I've shared this before, so pardon me if I bore you with a repeat. I am a mom, a wife and a successful business owner. I am the VP of my HOA, I have held dozens of positions on the PTA both locally and nationally. I work with my sorority undergrad group, I volunteer at a women's shelter, I work with special needs children. I do mud runs, zumba and am a training instructor at my martial arts school. I organize charity 5ks, lock ins and I used to be a girl scout leader. I was a theater major before I wizened up about my talents and now I am a theater mom. I can't sing, but I can dance when I've had a few cocktails. I can cross one eye while leaving the other one straight. I've been skiing double black diamonds all my life and I am a diamond certified gemologist. I am currently writing a book on my field of business. I have broken my nose 4 times doing stupid things and still don't have a bump. I had a brain tumor. Both of my kids attend special high schools for extremely gifted children and they obviously get it from me, not my husband whom I've been married to for 20 years. I drive a minivan but I prefer to go offroading in a jeep. I am white Water certified in a kayak and a canoe. I have a wicked sense of humor and I hug strangers randomly. I am pro-choice, a libertarian, and a gay right's advocate. I could bore you with more, but I am sure that is more than enough to digest for ow. I am *so much more* than someone who has had WLS. I would much prefer to learn about the person I am with than explain what a sleeve is. I don't care for my weight loss to be the center of conversation every time I see someone nor do I feel the need to be the advocate for such a personal decision. When people ask, I tell them the truth. I sought the advice of a doctor and nutritionist. I follow a low carb, high Protein diet. I shake my ass a *lot*. I am eating healthier and have made the right choices for *me* to be successful at weight loss. I owe no one any more than that. It is up to me to choose how I want to be defined. My choice is NOT as a WLS patient. If you choose differently, so be it. I will not judge you or shame you nor will I try to decide for you. Your body, your choice. Run with it.

These examples are VERY relevant. People don't generally ask if one has had WLS, so why must I supply that information or be called a liar? To YOU this topic might not be as sensitive, but you are not me or anyone else. I'm not sure that you or Steve or anyone else can speak for me. In fact, I'm pretty sure you can't. Like Steve, I "appreciate" your opinion on acceptable responses from me along with your judgement of my level of honesty. -
FINALLY! I have found not one but TWO things I **HATE** about my sleeve.

Eating slowly..
LipstickLady replied to allliecortia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My best advice? BABY SPOONS. Seriously. I still use them from time to time. I bought a 20 pack of the little plastic gerber spoons that are dishwasher safe. I put some in my lunchbox, some in my cooler and the rest in the drawer. (I work from home, but I am in my car a lot, so if I am going to be gone all day, I pack a small cooler or my lunchbox to carry in the car.) They keep by bites teeny because I suck at chewing to mush. Also, walk a lap between bites. I get up, walk a lap around the living room and sit back down. It's a bit disruptive, and you can stop doing that once you learn how to pace yourself, but until then... -
Your opinion of me is *none* of my business.

Telling about surgery
LipstickLady replied to kimpossible67's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You're wrong. Do you expect men who use Viagra to tell people they have a little help in the boudoir or are they lying? Do you expect parents with fertility problems to let others know they used artificial insemination or is that also a lie? Perhaps women who are complimented on their figure should let the world know they've had a boob job, or you know, they are lying. Transgender people should give full disclosure instead of trying to live a normal life, because they really SHOULD be fighting that stigma. Or you know, they are lying, too. Whatever. Judge me as a liar all you want for not telling everyone who asks about my weight loss surgery. It's actually people like you that prevent me from wanting to do so. So thanks. After all, you ARE the expert at this, right? -

I hope I didn't offend you. I was simply addressing the issue as posted.

I'm curious. What brand plantain and flaxseed chips are you eating? I've searched google for low fat low carb varieties and have come up empty handed. Point me in the right direction.
