    It's the STRAW!

Wait, whuuuuut!?!?!?! Drinking through a straw will "stretch" your sleeve? First, when your stomach is sleeved, the majority of the stretchy part of your stomach is cut out, leaving behind the denser, less stretchy muscle. Your stomach will relax over time as it heals, but it would take a LOT of over eating to stretch out the little fundus that is left behind after surgery. It certainly will not be stretched out by a little air in the tummy. Second, it's entirely possible to drink through a straw without sucking in any air. I do it with no problem. My doctor, too, gave out a manual that said no straw but it also recommended Water bottles like a camelbac which uses a.....STRAW!! When I questioned him on that, he said that the manual had a lot of contradictions, and to do what I thought was best. The reason you don't want air in your stomach is not due to stretching, it's due to discomfort. It hurts to have gas, and we have precious little space in there. If it's air and gas, there is no room for Protein and nutrition. I would never tell you to go against your doctor's orders, but I certainly advise questioning the absurd. The only way I can get in my liquid is through a straw, so I use one. I am almost two years out and I've used a straw since day 1. Surely I would have done some damage by now if damage were to be done. I can barely eat 1/2 cup to a full cup in a sitting. No stretching going on here.

    Drinking during meals

I don't think she was saying this is desired, simply saying this is what happens. OP: Here is a great visual in video form: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xR0VM3mnsgM

So What Would You Tell Yourself?

Suck it up. Whenever you have a nagging worry, a stall, a hunger pain, you are tired, you are frustrated, you are just plain old emotional, SUCK IT UP. Unless it's a medical problem like a sharp pain, you are nauseated and vomiting (and I don't mean because you are sick of shakes), etc. SUCK IT UP. Call your doctor if you have real concerns, ask questions here, vent away, but despite what some people think WLS isn't easy. It's not all fun and games. The weight doesn't magically fall off. You will not lose 10+ pounds a month despite eating only 100 calories a day. If you eat too fast or too much, you will most likely dump and or vomit. Your tastes will change. You will get hungry. You will get grumpy. People will not notice. Too many people will notice. No one will comment. Everyone will comment. Some people will be rude. Some people will be fake nice. Some people will be jealous. It is what it is. Suck it up, work your plan, ask your questions and be patient. This WILL work if YOU work.

    Can't eat anything... Help!

I am 22 months post op (almost) and it was 6 months before I hit 600 calories a day. Enjoy it. Relish it. Do what you can but don't force it. Worry about liquids and a sip of a Protein drink at a time. You will miss these days once you can eat more, I promise you.

    Can't eat anything... Help!

My seizure meds are huge ass pills and I couldn't take them both at the same time -- too full. I had to take one, wait an hour, take the other. I filled up on vitamins most days so eating food was a NOPE.

    Can't eat anything... Help!

100% normal. I couldn't get down an entire protein shake over the course of a day until week out, much less two. It took me a month to hit 300 calories a day and I stuck there until about three months.

    Help with steak?

Try different brands, too. I love Boar's Head meat but I do NOT like Boar's Head Roast Beef at all. It's flavorless. Don't avoid the rare if you are going to cook it, either. If you have it sliced really thin, it will cook in seconds.

    Help with steak?

All kidding aside, if you really want tasty tender steak that is well well done (shudder), go to your deli counter and ask for 1/2 pound of roast beef or top round. It's the meat you crave, no cooking required, you can have it sliced paper thin and it's still tender enough for you to chew. I buy roast beef all the time, chop it up, quick fry it with onions, top with provolone or Mozzarella and have steak and cheese for dinner.

Steak should MOOOOO when you cut it. Wear a blindfold.

    Bipolar Rant!

So uhmmm... You had surgery a month ago. How long did it take you to 275 pounds? If your expectation is to drop from women's sizes to lady's in a month, you are setting yourself up for failure. Big time. Breathe in, breathe out. Relax.

You've lost a pile of weight!

No, you only lost one. One pile.

Aren't piles another word for hemorrhoid?
  16. On the Internet, you can be anything you want. It's strange that so many people choose to be stupid.

    Evolution of eating post op

Just because your doctor says you CAN doesn't mean you have to. Go at your own pace. I was two weeks liquid, two weeks pureed, two weeks soft, and released for food at 6 weeks. Instead I was two weeks liquid, 3 weeks pureed (able to go through a strainer), 3 weeks REALLY soft, 3 weeks soft. I didn't eat "real foods" until a bit past three months. I also have a stricture, so...
  18. So what's weird? I am the exact opposite. When I was fat, I worried about every morsel of food even when I was eating with reckless abandon and then the guilt followed. I was always on Atkins of WWs or South Beach so food was always the forbidden fruit. Now, since my sleeve, I can eat anything and everything without a second thought because I can limit myself to a taste or two. I don't have a hard time stopping, I don't limit fat, I can't tolerate bread/pasta/rice well, so that's not even a desire. It's SO freeing.
  19. I have NO idea what you said. But yeah, that.

    "Thank God for My Sleeve!"

Meh. I'm not religious but I'm not offended by prayers. I appreciate the intention behind the words so I leave it at that.

Snacking - hard time staying full :/

You are eating carbs, carbs, carbs. You need to find protein you can tolerate.
  22. I miss the excess sweating, heavy breathing after climbing the stairs and the chub rub. Most of all, the chub rub.

Why do people feel they have a right to be rude now?

"I'm so tired of talking about MY weight. Let's talk about YOURS instead." Said with a smile...
  24. "Only" 7 pounds in 2 weeks? "Only" 17 total? What were you expecting?

    Shallow eye's upon us. *creepy*

Oh, and I'd happily lick cheesecake off Ottermode or Builtfat.
