    Moving to CT

Dr. Craig Flock was my surgeon, too.....wonderful, wonderful.......congrats, and welcome to the losers' bench.....I don't live in that part of the state, but one of these days I hope to make it to one of their support groups.....Best wishes!!
  2. congratulations, that was definitely a victory! Good luck on your journey!

    spouse

My husband was not supportive--don't get me wrong, he wanted me to lose weight and become healthier and grow old together......and he wanted his small wife back......for him it wasn't a matter of insecurities......he just didn't approve of surgery.....now he sings a different tune. His attitude started to change after going with me to that initial seminar with the surgeon......I think it was when the surgeon said most diets have a 95% failure rate.......afterwards he became more involved/interested, and most importantly supportive. I'm thankful I didn't have comorbidities at my age with the high BMI.....but it was just a matter of time before I had a mountain of health issues (that may bring your spouse around, too, if you touch on the health problems you'll have if you don't lose the weight)......I hope he comes around and will support you......good luck
  4. WooHoo! GamerGirl, You look great!.......your waist is more defined, and your tummy is so flat, lucky you!

need help with my 'newly sleeved' diet

You lucky girl.....when I was on Clear Liquids, it had to be clear......muscle milk, Protein powders, even the chicken unjury were not allowed..........had to wait until I was on full liquids for those. You can add torani syrup to your drinks for a different flavor (look for the sugar free versions.......grocery stores may have them, and amazon has a good selection). I think I read that some people put a little yogurt in their shakes to get the whey flavor out....not sure if it's too soon for yogurt on the stage you're at. Good luck.......you're doing great!

    August Sleevers?

I have to force the liquids......but that's been a lifelong problem.....it's just harder to guzzle to get caught up to the 64 ounces the DR wants...........good luck.......glad you didn't ignore those sharp pains......hope you are feeling better!

    Huh....I really AM getting smaller!

K, congratulations...........keep up the good work................I see the scale go down, I see the clothing getting smaller, I can look in the mirror and see my body is smaller...........but when I'm in front of the mirror doing my makeup, looking at my face, I just don't see it......when I pull out my before picture, however, THAT's when I see it.

    I KNEW IT! :p

Oh my gosh, I haven't had one in years............and someone left oreos in the kitchen to share......Oh, such temptation! I'm not even a big fan of Oreos, but man I wanted one LOL

    Moving to CT

Any of the hospitals should have some support groups. Dr. Flochs' group meets in Norwalk (I think) about 1/2 hour away---by the way, they are moving one of their offices to Shelton which is close to Naugatuck.....they have the bariatric center of excellence title......they are great.....there are 2 surgeons (brothers) and a third surgeon/partner......lovely, lovely people, met them all.... There's Yale New Haven Hospital, St. Raphael's Hospital (both in New Haven, and merged recently) St. Vincent's hospital, bridgeport There's a hospital in Milford, but last I knew they didn't do WLS and didn't have a support group. If none of these are viable options, please send me a PM, and I'll do some digging around......welcome to CT!
  10. I took vacation time and said nothing about the surgery.....so if the omission of telling someone is a lie, than I guess yes. I did plant the seed with 2 friends & an inlaw (all live far far away) because they have mentioned WLS for themselves......and they won't share it with anyone. Good luck!
  11. Don't worry about it.....each of us is different.......plus initially you are on liquids and can only drink so much at a time......it's more present with solid foods.......as long as I eat slowly, I can feel when I'm full.....it hurts if I eat one bite too many.....did that a couple times, don't want to do it again......thankfully it passes quickly. Hope this helps......good luck on your journey!
  12. Once I started eating solid food I had a couple of very minor issues......but the surgery/recovery was easy peasy....and most of the time I don't feel like I had surgery at all......unless we go out to eat....seeing the huge portion sizes that we used to eat....just unbelievable.

    When can you drink

At the initial appointment with my surgeon, I was told carbination was out of the picture after being sleeved. I never drank another soda after that......and don't see myself ever drinking bubbly anything again......it's been 7 months and I don't miss it..... For me, I figure it's one of the concessions of having the sleeve.....plus it might be a slippery slope once I start, if I ever did have soda......Good luck!!!

Why do women have to be so competitive?

I'm competitive, but only at sports or with myself at the gym........That's way too competitive......but as someone said, people of all sizes and shapes have self image issues......you are very kind to her! My sister learned to hate the word "skinny"......she was underweight.....we'd all just think "wow, she's lucky, she can eat anything she wants and not gain an ounce"......all the while she was fighting to keep on what little weight she had and hated how she looked in the mirror.....we just never know what's going on inside someone's head...... Can I just say moving from a BMI of 42 and going to a 28 is FABULOUS? You're doing great!
  16. I'm 10 weeks out today.......felt hunger 4 days ago for the first time since being sleeved. Have really enjoyed not being hungry.....I don't like feeling it again, not one bit LOL

    Am I wrong?

Couldn't have said it better........HK, I hope you made that call........I know I would have said something......this process is hard enough w/o someone saying crap like that......sending you warm wishes!

    discuraged

I was sleeved on 8/6 and am down 30 pounds since surgery......figure I'm a slow loser (I'm happy with the weight loss)......maybe you're eating too much or too fast......try taking smaller bites (if possible) and slowing down.......I'm still trying to find that point before one bite is too much.....I can drink rather well at this point, but eating is still only a few bites at a time......good luck.....

    Where are the 50s ???

I'm hitting 50 in just a few short weeks, 2 months out from surgery........still have a long way to go, but I'm feeling wonderful, everything in my life has improved---more flexible, more active, more energy, less pain in the knees.....stronger, too...... Welcome to VST.......and best wishes on this journey.
  22. I left the hospital larger than when I arrived (I think it's from the gas they inject in the belly).........that took some time to go down.......can't remember how long......Good luck!
  23. Just watned to say Happy Birthday!!!! (otherwise, nothing I can add to Susie's post)
