Help with pre-op shakes
PGee replied to Mandy Lemaye Morrison's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you have a walgreens nearby, they may have a 4 pack of the Premier shakes (so you can try them without getting a ton from costco,e tc.)....they aren't bad. I liked the unjury strawberry sorbet mixed with crystal light. -
I have no words of wisdom....I'm pre-op.....but just wanted to say welcome!

Lying about the surgery at work.... Please help!
PGee replied to anna eve's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One word of advice, please don't say you are having your gallbladder out......in some cases VSG'ers have to have that surgery later on.......that would be a bit difficult to explain if you told them you already had it out......Good luck whatever you decide (I'll keep it to myself, and haven't a clue what to tell people either) -
I'm so sorry you have to defend your decision....Some days I want to tell my sister, and some days I don't.....Luckily my husband supports me & is agreeable to keeping mum about it most days [{{wink}}} (he wants me to talk to his mom who is a Nurse....but that defeats the purpose of not talking to people about it LOL) Thank goodness for this website.....Good luck hon!

What is/was your pre-op diet? Please share.
PGee replied to BloomingFaith's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My understanding is twelve days of Optifast (protein shakes), then 2 days of clear liquids....can't wait! LOL And he expects a 20 pound weight loss....yowsa! -
About 2/3 of the way through for me........It'll take about 12 weeks to complete my insurance required appointments/tests......that goes back to the initial informational session to the last NUT appointment (I need 3 for the insurance)....I had to wait for availability for the initial endoscopy consultation, then waited another 2 or 3 weeks before they could schedule the procedure.... They told me I will be there for about 2 hours, but the procedure itself would only take about 2 minutes.....crazy! My surgeon didn't give me an order of what appointment to do first, etc......so I just called and made them as quickly as I could.. Good luck! Just a side note: I have to be at their office at 1:15 p.m. and Istop eating/drinking by 9 a.m.....no other dietary restrictions.

3 Months post surgery today and loving my sleeve!
PGee replied to newat52's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congratulations.......and thank you for sharing, your post is encouraging for us pre-ops! -
Went to the pre-op class last night at the hospital....its feeling a little more real.,....still have 3 more weeks of appointments to finish up. Mostly that class was a review of what I've learned through online/books......but there were a few specific questions pertaining to me that they were able to answer. I started this process April 9th by going to an informational session................and the time has just flown.........When I made my reservation for last night's class, it seemed sooooo far away... Hubby & I had a heart to heart talk last week and discussed pros/cons of WLS---after our discussion, I finally stopped making myself crazy over WLS....I was making myself absolutely nuts until laying everything out.....can't remember who suggested doing a list of pros/cons, but thank you! [although after the class, I think hubby is getting cold feet about this whole thing....he nearly passed out in class]

And something I found interesting about the pre-op diet.....we all know it's to shrink that liver since they surgeons will be working underneath.....however, the PA last night said it's also to see if patients will follow the diet......because they find the people who follow the pre-op diet are more successful after having WLS....thought that was interesting, hadn't heard that before. Enjoy your day!

I just realized today is your day....hope all went well!

I'm pre-op, and have decided to keep this to myself....went to lunch with a group of friends, including 1RNY patient, and one who is thinking about it.......they started talking about WLS, and I nearly told them what I've been up to.....would love to talk with them, but once you say the words, you can never get them back....and I'm just not ready to tell people....wish me luck, because I am not the best at keeping my mouth shut! LOL

That's great! I am so anxious to get through this pre-op stuff and get approved (thinking positively). [Gayle, good luck tomorrow]

Getting co-workers to trumpet your success....
PGee replied to gmanbat's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That is too funny! -
I'm so glad I'm not alone....and kudos to those brave souls who bared it all to their loved ones. My husband knows, and one sibling.......still on the fence about telling the rest of my family....DH wanted me to discuss it with his mom who's a nurse, but as you put perfectly, I don't want people to focus on what's on my plate, how much I've lost, etc. and forbid him to mention it to his family either (yup, I'm the enforcer in the family LOL) people are going to talk, regardless....if it's not about weight (too big, too small), it's about something else......so this is something else I'm not handing to them on a platter LOL Thank you all for your input!

Everyone's insurance is different....it will take me 3 months to get my appointments in......the NUT appointments is what is taking some time as I need to have 3.....so one in May, June, and the last one July 1......Some insurance companies require 6 months....or other requirements...Good luck!

Life Insurance and Affairs in Order
PGee replied to twsport's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No kids here either.....but will sure my will is up to date, DNR, and medical POA are in place...I have siblings, so anything I have from my grandparents will go to them, otherwise everything stays with hubby) (Vixynne....sorry to hear of your loss) -
I have no plans on telling anyone in the office. However, I have 4 weeks of vacation I can use.....good luck....

I was talking to my hubby about what to expect immediately after post op.....its just the 2 of us.....I told him the first week or two post op he'd be on his own for meals, while I was on Clear liquids. He thought I was joking. He's a wonderful guy, but nurturing (or cooking) doesn't come easily for him. As long as he knows what to expect ahead of time, he's fine....I figure with planning I could have some meals in the freezer for him to nuke......I can't imagine cooking while being sore and on clear liquids. How did you handle meals for your significant other/family immediately post-op? Thanks!

Clear Liquid Phase & Unjury Protein Powder
PGee posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Since the chicken broth flavor of unjury is similar to broth with the addition of Protein, did anyone use this in the Clear liquids phase following surgery? I'll see my NUT in a few weeks, but thought I'd ask my inhouse experts -
Clear Liquid Phase & Unjury Protein Powder
PGee replied to PGee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I found it to be a little on the salty side, similar to boullion......otherwise I thought it was good....the NUT suggested I experiment now so I have things lined up.... -
Clear Liquid Phase & Unjury Protein Powder

Go to www.unjury.com .....they have a sample pack, 2 each I believe of unflavored, chicken soup, vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry sorbet...I'm not a big strawberry fan, but they suggest mixing it with 8 oz of lemonade (crystal light variety) www.bjsbariatrics.com also has a sample pack for Syntrax nectar (you get to choose the flavors, there are quite a few....if you don't like coconut, avoid the caribbean one) They are currently out of fuzzy navel and vanilla bean, so my samples are back ordered....perhaps a 2 week delay unjury was about $28 and BJ's Bariatric was about $20 for the sample packs.....a nice way to try out the flavors w/o investing in a huge tub of it.... -
Thanks.....just sent you an email....we were away for the weekend....

What a difference 9 weeks can make! I want your arms and your flat stomach LOL Keep up the good work!

I don't even have a date yet, and I'm apprehensive LOL But, as someone else mentioned, I am more afraid of what happens if I don't have WLS
