  1. awwww, that's so nice! Mine has been locked away for a few years.....will be a celebration when that sucker fits! Congratulations!
  2. I have a warped image of myself.....when I see pictures, it's not what I think I look like.....but having mirrors that go from shoulder height and up doesn't help LOL

    First Consultation with Surgeon

Welcome! I happened to have a physical/bloodwork done earlier that week, so I grabbed a copy of the results and brought them with me.....otherwise they would have sent me to have it done.....may depend on how recent your blood was drawn, too.... They figured my BMI while I was there......however, in the letter of necessity from my physician (for the insurance company), he put down my height and weight.....which is what I'm guessing they'll use for approval.
  4. if you do a search on here for Protein, you should find a lot of information.......I am preop, so for what it's worth, my NUT recommended: unjury, Syntrax nectar, Isopure (they have clear liquid Proteins at GNC), Premier Protein--already mixed or in powder form (a 4 pack premix is available at walgreens.....and by the case at costco) I've tried the unjury and Premier Protein (premixed).....isopure liquid is expensive, so I'm saving that for the clear liquid phase. You can get sample packs for about $20 each (includes shipping) of Unjury (on their website) and Syntrax nectar (BJSbariatrics.com)....hope that helps.....good luck!

    Last Day

Looking back you'll laugh at that particular meeting......."I'm ready fully without a doubt".....what wonderful, powerful words.....so refreshing/encouraging to us pre-ops! Good luck tomorrow.
  6. Just got off the phone with my surgeon's office.....cigna has apparently changed their requirements for the 3 NUT visits, and has specified they be scheduled in a period not less than 89 days.....when I first made my appointments, I assumed that anyway, just seemed logical.....but at that time the NUT visits just had to be in 3 separate months............I was quite ecstatic because that meant I could do them in a much shorter time period.....so in 2 weeks I have my 3rd NUT visit......didn't realize how much I was counting on the insurance approval process to start then......but if Cigna enforces this new rule, it will push out my last visit for another month....dang, that's disappointing.......Anyway, thought I'd share for my fellow pre-ops.....good luck ya'll!
  7. Lucky you (both)! The surgeon's office did say that 10 out of the 11 Cigna submissions submitted since the change were approved with the old guidelines......so we are going forward as planned.........but this could possibly mean that rather than late July/early August, I may be looking at September for a surgery date............it's not that bad, I guess....but it's easier for me to take tie off in the summer.....once September hits, so is my office LOL.......so the timing will stink if I have to go further out.....anyway, thanks for listening to my griping!
  8. I think that's a very normal concern, not crazy at all.........these are my thoughts, for myself......hope it helps....... I've researched WLS on and off for about 6 years.......if I had had the surgery, I may have had loose skin or hair loss......but I now have that--w/o surgery .....in addition, I now have a lot of health issues due to my weight......and they are just going to keep coming unless I do something So, if I could go back 6 years, I would run to have surgery if I could.......even if it guaranteed loose skin and thin hair......at this point, those are the least of my worries......it may be an age thing.....the big five-oh is looming..... I have REALLY struggled with this decision ever since that informational session--drove DH nuts! Two weeks ago, I had an epiphany and now going full speed ahead with WLS.....I still have some concerns, but I think they are normal....it helped to write down all the pros and cons of having/not having surgery...that may help you, too. Good luck with your decision.....typically you don't HAVE to schedule the surgery right away.....when you hear from your insurance company, find out how long the approval is good for (I think they may give you X amount of months to have the surgery before the approval expires), and use that time to come to a decision if you are still on the fence......again, good luck!

    New to the Group *waves*

Hello from Connecticut! I never knew this "fun sized sleever" board existed---I saw it on someone's info block....I'm 5'1.and a quarter inches LOL My PCP always bumps it up to 5'2", but when he filled out the paperwork, I made sure he put 5'1" (since it's closer to the truth.....plus bumps up my BMI!) Can't wait to be a healthier weight! Two more weeks before my last appointment......then the waiting game LOL
  10. Thank you all! (And thanks for the info on age.....will be 50 this year.....will take that into consideration as well, thanks!)
  11. I'm guessing for me it will be almost 4 months.......My journey started April 9th with the initial informational session.......My last appoint will be July 1st, and the surgeon's office will probably submit it to insurance the 2nd......and then the biting my nails, waiting game begins LOL I am hoping to have surgery July or August, because it's easier and less noticeable to take time off during the summer.....PS Welcome M! Good luck!
  12. Question for those post ops.......assuming surgery goes w/o any complications......how much time off would you have liked for recovery? One week, two? Thanks for sharing your experiences! My last appointment is fast approaching before submitting, and I'm hoping surgery is just around the corner.....I have 3 weeks of vacation left, and was planning on using 2 weeks of vacation since I haven't shared this with co workers. Thanks again!
  13. Thank you for posting about costco.....a number of years ago I picked up some at $5/pound.....but haven't seen it that low in a long time....I have put them in yogurt as mentioned, but let it sit for awhile so they aren't so seedy.

    New wanted introduce myself

Welcome to the group! The people here are so friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful! Good luck!
  19. I was given my packet of paperwork from my surgeon's office, and was told once I completed these appointments to call them.....I've always had to have doctor's offices make the initial calls, so I was a little uncomfortable about this (but my insurance doesn't require referrals, so maybe that's why) Thought it'd take forever......it's 2 months later, and I have my last appointment in a couple of weeks.....don't know where the time went. The only thing I didn't see listed was a cardiologist's clearance....I had to do that.....Good luck!
  20. I am choosing the VSG over RNY/DS because my sibling had RNY, and has horrific malapsorption issues, has to get hooked up to an IV to fill in the nutritional gap.....this doesn't happen to everyone, but I worry because our genetics are so close....plus I'm not comfortable with getting parts rerouted What WLS has your surgeon suggested? Good luck whatever you decide!

    new here :)

Welcome, and good luck on your journey. Six months seems like a long time, but it'll fly by. Like someone mentioned, peruse the message board...ask questions. I did pick up the big book on the gastric sleeve.....I think if I had a tablet, I'd prefer to have a download rather than the physical book.....that book is BIG.....the tablet would be easier to cart around, and less conspicuous to read in public, since I'm keeping my WLS quiet......Good luck!

I don't even have a date yet, and I'm anxious! LOL The gal that did my pysch eval said she'd be concerned if patients didn't have concerns before having the procedure. Good luck!
