  1. I am still pre-op.....but I've told my hubby & one sibling who were both threatened with death if they uttered even a single word about it LOL......
  2. Welcome BB! If you are going through your insurance, find out what they cover and their requirements.....everything varies from policy to policy.....Some require 6 months of visits with a nutritionist/dietitian.......others require 3......plus a lot of other tests and doctors appointments......fun stuff LOL If all goes well, I should have surgery in 4 months from that initial informational session. Good luck!

    Problems with insurance?

Welcome, Jenn! I've heard of folks whose insurance used the original weigh in......you'll have to see what happens.....keep us posted.....my paperwork was sent to Cigna last week....but my BMI is higher.....best wishes

    Lottery Winner!

    WOW, that's wonderful! Lucky you!
  5. Oh Kailie, that's great news!!!!!! Congratulations.....will want a full report after you get home I'm waiting for the call......and today I'm getting anxious.....and it's only been a week LOL
  6. These are a couple of my surgery experiences....you'll do fine. One time they had me counting backwards from 100, and I'm thinking "this is never going to work".....got to 97 and the next thing I knew I was in recovery. One other time, I was quite nervous, the dr was trying to get me to relax and kept having me describe to him my favorite vacation spot......I thought he was nuts.....then I look around the room, and there is like 7 people all standing there around the operating table, just staring at me.....waiting, and I realize, oh, this is the part that I'm supposed to be out LOL I closed my eyes, thought of a beach, and that was it. With a general anesthesia, I'm very groggy and typically grumpy when they wake me up LOL I was hoping they'd do a twilight type anesthesia for this operation--no such luck. LOL
  7. I have one too....found it during the endoscopy..............as SassyGirl said, they told me it will be taken care of during the VSG surgery....good luck!
  8. Is anyone else on tamoxifen? How were did the side effects differ after surgery, if at all? Thanks

    OS Trim High Protein Snack

I tried these years ago......I couldn't eat the pepper flavor.....really spicy (IMHO)
  10. Welcome, and congratulations!!!! It's interesting to see how doctors' recommendations differ.....for me it will be a week of clear liquids, then a week of full liquids, then a week of puree.....and perhaps by the 3 or 4th week soft foods.....Best wishes
  11. I am so glad yo posted this.....I am obsessed....absolutely, positively obsessed. Paperwork was submitted a week ago, and I've been pretty calm about it until this morning.....and, today I want an answer now LOL.....I hope to know by the end of the week if it's approved......I am trying to read up on everything I can about this, watching videos....etc. While being pre-op, has anyone gone to a support group for WLS? I'm thinking about going to one tonight, but don't look forward to the hour long drive.....
  12. This is a toughy for me.....I'm pre-op and still working on what to tell people. If your husband isn't going to the party, could you just show up that day alone and say he's not feeling well? (I'm sure he'll be sore at least and not feeling his best)

    I hate skinny Beotchs

my sister was one of those underweight kids through her 20's....she once told me she learned to hate the word skinny....no matter what she ate, she couldn't gain weight....it was hard to get clothes that fit her growing up....I think that's the part she hated. As an adult, she started gaining and became obese...however, the two of us can follow the same diet, and she will steadily lose weight, while my body wants to hold onto it. It's been so long since I was thin....I don't think I was every skinny.....but hope to be a skinny beotch soon LOL Thanks for the giggles!

    almost time...

Best wishes! (did I understand that, you & your sister are doing it together?....good luck to you both)
  15. Thank you all for sharing your input....like the original poster, I want to know the good, the bad, and the ugly. Thanks.
  16. That mirrors my story.....I'm putting off the knee surgeries as long as I can....this surgery cant' come soon enough.....
  17. Wishing you all the best today!

    Closet Sleever

I wasn't planning on telling anyone other than DH & my sister (by the way, I can so relate to the Mom relationship LOL and I'm 49 as well).... I have 2 friends who have had WLS and we exercise twice a week together--and both were open about their surgery.....I feel badly not telling them, but once it's out in the open, it's out there, and I'd rather keep this close to home....
  19. My surgeon's office said the approval process generally takes about 10 days (this is for cigna, and I'm in CT).
  20. Thank you...I'll look into them.
  21. I lost 2 pounds each month during the pre-approval phase....they didn't put me on a diet at all...it's now in the hands of the insurance....the 3 months all we did was make small changes and talk about pre and post surgery diet. Good luck

    What's different?

Thank you all! I'm officially in the 'waiting for approval' stage....but I'm not that anxious about it.....maybe it's age LOL I haven't hit menopause....but I am on medicine that prevents my period...I'll be on it for another 4 years (to fight off breast cancer recurrence)...it'll be interesting to see if that has any effect.... Good reminder not to compare the rate of weight loss success with others....thanks again!
  23. Okay you fabulous & 50 sleevers, had a quick question...is there anything different for VSG patients 50 and over (for instance is the weight loss slower?) Anything I should know? I'm hitting 50 in a few short months, and was just wondering if there's anything age related that's not being discussed on other boards....Many thanks! On a side note, my NUT has seen permanent weight loss success more often with patients in our age bracket than patients in their 20's...thinks its a maturity thing (this is her personal experience only)....that's encouraging! I don't have a surgery date yet, but after talking with the surgeon's office, and if approved, I may be looking at a mid August date for surgery. Many thanks!
