Oh sweetie, you're not alone...we are here!!! (and thank goodness VST was here for me, too!) I can't say I'm doing it all alone as my husband is my cheerleader and rock.....and one sister is aware of my plans and supportive as she's had an RNY years ago......otherwise, I am keeping it quiet---not discussing it with parents other siblings, nor co workers/friends. Please be sure to get a copy of your insurance policy in writing or in a PDF.....you can call for it....do not leave that up to the doctors, that's your responsibility. Sounds like our plans are similar, though. With regards to the BMI, some insurance companies state a 35 BMI with co morbidities OR a BMI of 40 or above w/o comorbidities....each doctor, nutritionist/dietitian, and insurance companies follow their own set of rules. Good luck....we're here for ya!

If you check on Lynda's picture, it will bring you to her profile.....once there, there is a little menu on the left....click on "gallery".....and that should pull up her pictures. PS Welcome!

Anyone else getting sleeved in August?
PGee replied to Living4Me's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for doing that list......a lot of us on 8/6, wow! I started the pre-op liquid diet on Saturday...it's not bad so far.....HOWEVER, this is self imposed rather than mandatory, so maybe because I know I can eat if I want to, that I don't mind it.....come tomorrow when it officially begins, I may not be such a happy camper LOL Have a great day everyone!!!!! -
Actually surviving the clear liquid diet!
PGee replied to karpouzian's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you really on a clear liquid diet for 2 weeks? Yikes! I'll be on a liquid diet, but doing the clear liquid diet only 2 days b/4 surgery.....do you have a flavor of Isopure that you like better than others? I was never a gatorade girl...... good luck everyone, here we go! -
So now the journey begins
PGee replied to determined1103's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good luck....love the pix....my 2 week liq. diet starts on Tuesday....it's been so many years since I was small, it'll take some work to find any skinny pictures of me LOL -

Any Scrapbookers Here? Too soon for a post-op Crop?
PGee posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been invited to a crop being held 11 days after my surgery......do you think that's too soon? or am I out of my mind? I'll be on full liquids at that point and can pack some strained Soup and Protein drinks and can pack light..... I'm thinking I should decline......but it sounds like fun! [you just have to say the word "fun", and I'm there LOL] -
Before altering, you may want to consider the consignment shops or goodwill.....I see new, brand name clothing in there with the tags still on.....always surprised at the high end designer names, too. Good luck!
-
Amy, glad you're doing so well! Mom2ris, I decided not to have a "last meal".....what did you end up having? Good luck!
-
Too funny.....I'm 5'1.5", and my PCP always rounds it up to 5'2"..........but with these bad knees (can't straighten my legs all the way), now I truly am 5'1

I'm right there with you! Good luck! It'll be here before you know it.

Thanks, GB! For months I've been drinking the RTD protein drinks, hopeful that it wouldn't be unusual for people to see me doing it LOL -
my delicious coffee house drink
PGee replied to TES's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds yummie......I've started a file with recipes people have posted...........thank you for sharing! -
congratulations!!!! So nice to hear @ five days you're doing so well. If you don't mind my asking, who did the surgery? I'm going with Dr. Floch out of Norwalk,....Yale would have been much closer.....but he came highly recommended by 2 people I know......plus...I know too many people at Yale, making it hard to keep this quiet LOL It's so nice your family was there to support you!

I've had a shaved ice machine laying around the house for years (someone gave it to me).....and I've finally taken it out....I saw a recipe online that used SF koolaid, water, and, no cal sweatener to make homemade SF syrup....not sure if this is a good thing for sleevers or not....

I'm preop with bad knees and can't do a treadmill....but what is GREAT if you have a Y or other gym with a pool is waterfit classes.....I can do anything in the water because the impact isn't there like it is on a treadmill.....we use foam noodles and barbells for various resistance/weight training.

Before/After Pics - 2 months post-op
PGee replied to Jen35's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Oh my goodness! What a difference 2 months can make! Thank you for sharing. -
Nancy, welcome! Luckily the waiting is typically 2 weeks or less (they can have up to 30 days I think, but most are quicker to approve). Good luck!

Effects of Protein Shakes
PGee replied to miss_cee85's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
PS My preop is all liquid.....If I am desperate enough for something to chew, I can use my ice shaver, pour SF syrup on it.....or protein drink..... -
Effects of Protein Shakes
PGee replied to miss_cee85's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your NUT or DR should have given you a list.....are you meeting with them b4 the liquid diet? Here's what I'll be doing....however, this is for someone with the 40-44 BMI range..... 6 Protein shakes (the goal here s 960 calories and 78g protein) Optional snacks: SF Jello, no added sugar popsicles, no cal flavored Water, herb tea, decaf coffee, crystal light, diet snapple, water, fruit-2-0, no cal iced tea, clear broth and non caloric sweeteners: splenda, equal, sweet & low, stevia/truvia Good luck! definitely ask your providers, because everyone is different.....best wishes --p -
Your manager has never walked a mile in your shoes.....until he/she does, ignore that person's negative remarks.. My surgery is 8/6 and will officially start the liquid diet on Tuesday for 2 weeks (do you only have a one week liquid diet?) However, I have been purging the kitchen, and decided to start it a few days early...... MrsWynter, you'll be coming up soon! Good luck!

Most embarassing moment so far
PGee replied to Ashlee K's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ashlee, other than this, how have you been post op? How many days out are you? This is one situation I'm really not prepared for....Sounds like your BF is a keeper! Not every man would assist in the clean up. -
Don't stress over it, plan for it . That's my new mantra LOL We had a wonderful lunch today, and I was thinking what would I have done differently if they had the luncheon next week as originally planned, during my pre=op diet?.....I would have had a shake before I left the office, and ordered a clear soup, just drink the broth and as a backup, bring a bouillon cube and ask for a cup of tea....and use it for my bouillon instead.....if that's what I had to do..... I really didn't have much notice of the surgery, and don't have time to plan for a food funeral. LOL To be honest, I think that would set me up for failure...I have 3 days left before I go all liquids...so I am making the best choices I can whatever circumstances I find myself in this weekend....may even go all liquids tomorrow. Shocking, I know LOL. I thought I wanted Chinese one day this week, but it didn't happen, and honestly, I don't see it happening---and I'm good with that It is H-O-T! for dinner, I just wanted something cold...still experimenting with protein powders....mixed a scoop of syntax nectar wild cherry protein powder with 4 oz of water with a stick blender.....then poured it over shaved ice......it was nothing like a sno cone, and I could only use 1/2 the drink, but it was cold, crunchy, wild cherry, and pretty yummie.....(someone gave me an ice shaver years ago, and I never knew what to do with it....now I know LOL) Right now a small batch of stew is simmering so it can be frozen for hubby.....he won't tell me what he wants while I'm on clear liquids post op (I told him I'm not cooking that week)....so I'm making what I want him to eat, and if he doesn't like it, well hopefully he'll have learned a lesson LOL Good night everyone....be good....

Anyone else getting sleeved in August?
PGee replied to Living4Me's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Welcome! The folks on here are terrific! I really enjoyed this post on attitude, his message is good for everyone: http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/87330-attitude-your-secret-weapon/page__hl__attitude this is my plan for the 2 week pre-op diet: understand it fully, make sure all ques. are answered...have everything in the home....make sure there is no excuse that could possibly set yourself up for failure....my day is unpredictable, so I will be sure to have plenty of shakes/water for the day in a cooler whenever I leave the house probably a little militant, but it troubles me when I read about people not following the pre-op diet 100%....logically, it doesn't make any sense...even worse, I'm scared that I'll find myself in the same boat.... I've purged my cabinets of anything I won't use post-op....setting up an area just for the 2 week stuff...food I have to have for hubby will be out of my sight.... Welcome!
