  1. I'm 12 days post op, and this morning I had 1/4 cup of nonfat greek yogurt.....with a a tablespoon of Protein powder mixed in. I ate 1/2 of it around 8 a.m. and the other 1/2 around 10 a.m.-----probably took 1/2 an hour both times, eating slowly and small bites.....it's noonish and I'm getting foamies........did I eat too fast? too much? I'm on full liquids, and didn't feel full....guessing I probably should have left out the Protein Powder.....I've been having yogurt and protein supplements since tuesday....but this was the first time I put the PP in the yogurt. Any input from those experienced with the foamies would be great......I feel like I've hit a milestone in my sleeved life LOL Thanks!
  2. I've struggled with telling people from the start of this journey. Mostly because I dread the negative reactions and rude comments. Another issue that I have is a direct result from a traumatic event that happened a few years ago. People focused on that constantly, for a couple of years....and it gets old---you try to heal, move on, live a normal life, and they can't help but ask about it, comment about it, and it can be a downer (even if their intentions are good). I don't want people to focus on this (I do enough of it on my own ) This morning I've figured at some point I may tell the truth when asked, but I won't put out a banner announcing it......and gmanbat's post below couldn't have come at a better time. THANK YOU GMANBAT! Source: VSG: status symbol?

    Tears of joy

My husband & I were talking, and I got a bit emotional about this journey and so thankful for his support.....the poor man, he is my sole support......well, that and VST! He's never asked how much I weighed, but knew I was over 200 pounds. I was 250 in January.....forget about getting to a healthy weight....I was feeling overwhelmed at the possibility at just getting below 200 and feeling I would never reach that goal. Today I weighted in at 217 and got teary eyed when I realized getting under 200 is possible, and it's in sight.....don't know how long it'll take to get there, but am giving it my all. My husband is hurt that I don't wear my wedding band/engagement ring. I already had them sized 5 years after we married...back in 1989....and I refused to have them sized again--unless it's smaller.....felt if I got them sized again to a bigger size it was acknowledging I'll never get to a healthy weight.....and I wasn't going down w/o a fight. He has no clue, but I can now wear my wedding rings......our anniversary is coming up in a few weeks....I plan on surprising him by wearing them....I'm so excited, I want to wear them now....but I don't want to ruin the surprise.....wish me luck!
  4. Today was a girls day out.....and we scrapbook together......I brought my meals....I'm still on full liquids.....and thought I'd be all set......then dinner was brought out..........total head hunger....... I nearly reasoned that I could have a bite if I chewed it very, very well. Note: I've had this dinner before....it's not that great LOL But I still wanted it.............desperately..........and no, I wasn't hungry.....haven't been hungry since being sleeved. I sipped my protein drink.....still wanted the dinner..........so I left the room and called my hubby........You're probably sick of me saying this, but I've come to far to screw this up.............After taking a walk, chatting with hubby, I was able to put this behind me.....just needed a distraction to focus on. We've heard it before......and it's worth repeating.......whatever struggles we experienced before surgery, we will have them afterwards......and they need to be worked on/addressed.......the sleeve is only a tool, not a magic wand.. I'm glad I didn't give in to my old habit "a bite won't hurt".
  5. Thanks.....yup finished it to get the protein in......greek yogurt is on my full liquids list. I put the protein powder in it for a different taste.....plain yogurt is getting old...I tell ya, Tuesday and pureed foods can't come soon enough

    Liquid diet before surgery?

I'll tell you what my 2 week diet consisted of.....3 Protein shakes and 2 cups of yogurt....and at least 8 cups of Water.....hope that helps......the Protein powder had 160 calories, 2g fat, 8g carbs, 27g protein.....I mixed it with unsweetened vanilla almond milk. The yogurt had to be plain, non fat, and no more than 100 calories per cup....danon all natural plain nonfat yogurt did the trick....I bought the 32 ounce container, and it had 4 servings in it. good luck
  7. even just the social stuff immediately after surgery is hard---wish I could be a hermit for six weeks...trying to come up with reasons why I'm not bowling, swimming, eating---it is a pain, and the list just seems to go on and on......and I'm not 2 weeks out yet..... A friend wants to get together for lunch....and I'm on full liquids......so I've told her I'm on a liquid Protein diet for a few weeks......it would be so much easier to be open about this, but I prefer to keep it private.....Good luck!
  8. sounds YUMMIE! I'm adding it to my recipe collection! Thanks!

    August 6'ers?

You guys are too funny! I had my post op today too.....10 pounds down......congrats on the BMI reclassification!!!!
  10. With regards to cheating, here's my take on it.......I didn't want to screw up this opportunity, so I didn't cheat....I will say on a couple of occasions, I reached for something, but pulled my hand back when I realized what I was doing......didn't realize how bad I had become at always looking for something.....I'm a grazer.....and an emotional eater.....it was my comfort, I ate when happy, sad, angry, bored......really, I didn't need an excuse LOL If you are having trouble, do you know why you are cheating? Are you ready for this lifestyle change? Are you committed to it? Are you worried you won't be able to have a specific food post op? Have you attended a support group? Often they are held at the hospital where bariatric surgery is done....they generally have a group that includes pre and post op patients---and you can ask them how they stayed on track for the pre-op diet. Are you working with a therapist? Perhaps a visit with one who specializes in obesity related issues can be of help.....your surgeon may even be able to suggest someone he's familiar with. Next time your hand reaches for something, call a friend....go for a walk....read a book......put some music on and dance......do some laundry......just get out of the kitchen and get your mind on something else..... following that strict pre op diet really helped me post-op.......I had my allotment of 3 shakes & 2 yogurts, and I was done for the day...it put a stop to always looking for something to eat, and so far it's made the first two stages post-op easier..................Sorry this is long......hope it helps.......
  11. So sorry you are going through this......good luck!!!
  12. Chicken already...wow...I won't be @ pureed foods until my 4th week out.......I can tell you each & every day it gets bettter, and getting in protein easier...best of luck to you!

    August 6'ers?

I just got on the full liquids today......and finding it trying to get in all the protein ....so I have a 15 minute timer, and take two tiny sips every 15 minutes...... About the bras....Walmart carries the genie bra......$20 for 2 maybe......they aren't the greatest for support, but that's what I've been wearing, and no problems...one insision is under the band...just wish these steri strips would fall off LOL

Yup....scrapbooking indirectly lead me to getting sleeved....I'll send you a PM.
  20. Definitely keep it private if you want.....I'm afraid when my swimming buddy who had gastric bypass notices the changes...I'm sure she will be blunt about them LOL And I haven't told people either.

26 lbs lost in 2 weeks

That's awesome! I'm starting to dislike male sleevers (just kidding)......you guys seem to lose weight much faster...I've lost 7 to your 15 (and very happy about those 7 pounds LOL) haven't had any pain--other than being a little bit sore the day or two after surgery....Keep up the good work!

    Connecticut Sleevers?

If you are in contact with a surgeon/bariatric center, they usually have support groups who welcome pre and post op patients.....if not, any hospital that does bariatric surgery usually offers support groups. HTH.....good luck!
  24. I'm one week post op......and on clear liquids.....crystal light, SF popsicles, SF italian ice were all on my list.....I had the diarrhea since surgery....I've switched to just water and my one protein drink....and no more diarrhea.......so the SF foods/drinks could be a possible culprit. HTH Good Luck!

    It's contagious!

Good for her---and how wonderful to have your best friend/sister as a support and cheerleader! You could ask on VST if anyone has used a doctor in her area as a recommendation and place to start....
