The first thing is: Everyone's Experience & Pain Tolerance is Different (as you can see by the responses) I had no pain where the incisions were......just a slight soreness where the stomach was removed....I tend to handle the big things easily, but break a nail, and I'm a baby....no pain meds needed. I was walking in the recovery room (scared about that gas pain I had heard about).....eyes were still blurry from the anesthesia, had a nurse on each side, and I walked every hour until a room was ready 4 hours later.....

Oh gosh, I hear you......mine was always "would I fit?"........you should go with your family and have fun, live in the moment.....your girls would rather you were there with them.........hold your head up because you're a great mom/wife, and enjoy the game! Truly there's no time like the present....don't wait until next year to enjoy your family at a Cubs game.....our kids grow up and change so quickly, you don't want to miss out....

I just had to post....I made it to Onederland today......199.......Looks like I may be a slow loser.......sleeved 8/6 and down 26 pounds since surgery.......I am a very happy camper even though it's not dropping off as fast as some of my sister sleevers...... Last week my PCP put me in the ER due to a blockage......so this weekend I drank as much as I possibly could......don't ever want to go through that again.......word to the wise, drink up girls/guys! Glad to see everyone is doing so well.

After the mandatory informational session, I met with the doctor, who gave me a shopping list of tests and appointments I had to get through......and I had to meet with a nutritionist 3 times during a 3 month period.....some people have a 6 or 12 month requirement (depends on your insurance) once I got through that, we applied for appoval to the insurance, almost 2 weeks later, it was approved, and I was able to get a surgery date 2 weeks later.............the surgery date is dependent upon your schedule and your doctor's schedule.....your surgeon may not have openings for a month............everyone's experience is different...... I was not put on a diet by the nutritionist....we only discussed post op diet....the surgeon put on a 2 week preop Protein shake diet If you haven't already, call your insurance company and get a copy of their requirements for WLS approval.......good luck!

I had a fatty liver before surgery, they took a biopsy during surgery and found that it was chronically inflamed........PCP and Surgeon think both issues will get better with weight loss.....and the odd twinges on the right side have subsided since a couple weeks post op (I had my gallbladder out years ago).....I had some bloodwork done last week and interested in the liver results........good luck, and please let us know what the doctor has to say.....best wishes, --p

How long did it take to schedule surgery?
PGee replied to Lenac0001's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
After my last Nut appointment, it took about 2 weeks to get approved.....once approved, my surgery was scheduled within two weeks. -
When did you start seeing a difference?
PGee replied to dwhitten's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Agreed. I started seeing a difference at about 25-30 pounds.....now that I'm down more, people are noticing.....don't know if height is a factor as to when you start seeing a difference, but I'm on the short side at 5'1" -
What are people doing to keep constipation at bay? I was in the ER all day yesterday due to a blockage....(I don't recommend it----it's ugly and so is the procedure to get rid of it)....they fixed me, and all is almost good......but I can't help be concerned about recurrences......I drink 40-60 oz and include 1 or 2 premier Protein drinks a day....and being made of whey, which is from dairy, I'm wondering if that's constipating? The ER docs said to stay away from dairy......I'm still only able to eat 2oz at a time....3oz if it's very moist.....so I have depended on those drinks..... So, what are you doing to keep regular? Many thanks (sorry if this was TMI)

No food funeral here. After that initial informational session, I was very conscious of what I ate and had the kinds of things I'd eat post op.......it was a good practice for me (I'm a person of habit---good or bad)........not quite 2 months out, and I don't regret that decision....I figure eventually I could have a taste of something if I really wanted it post op......just not right now. Good luck everyone! This isn't an easy journey, but well worth it.

Many thanks!

I have a Kitchen Aid hand blender and a regular blender like yours.........and found no need to upgrade....just thought I'd put that out there.....I try to save $ where I can, and wanted to share.....good luck whatever you decide.

I've kept mine pretty quiet....even from friends & family.....the inlaws know, but they don't live nearby and don't see my family/friends....it's hard, and you'll find yourself in difficult situations....I tell people I eat less and watch my carbs.....during meals I tend to ask questions of family/friends I'm eating with....keeps them focused on themselves rather than me (just a little tip) A friend who's had the gastric bypass noticed the weight loss the other day.....and assumed it was from exercising (since she was supposed to go with me, and blew it off all summer).....I keep wondering when she'll figure it out.....

I'm so sorry Mokee! Wishing you both the best.....I think it's just as hard on the cancer patient as their loved ones.....you're in my thoughts. --p

Can anyone point me to a list of local Support Groups
PGee replied to ItsMe2033's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I haven't seen a list like that....as Kathy said, check local hospitals......The ride to the support group my surgeon's office offered are hell to get to.......there's a closer hospital (who doesn't typically do VSG)......and they welcomed me with open arms....Good luck -
No longer just lurking, I'm officially scheduled!
PGee replied to Neal's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Wishing you all the best, congratulations! -
I read someone puts them in her smoothies.....I stir some into my yogurt....let it sit for 15-25 minutes so they absorb the liquid. pre sleeved, I made up some chia gel and would eat a three teaspoons a day (not all at once) You may want to do a search on hear for chia seeds and see what comes up

Thank you for that! They gave me Zofran, but it did nothing.....so I'm thinking it's an acid or heartburn problem......tried Pepcid over the weekend, and it helped tremendously (not sure why Prilosec made it worse)

That's great news!!!! I am one of those who has kept it rather quiet--not even my family knows.....but I did tell my inlaws....didn't want my SIL who struggles with her weight to think I found some magic cure......They are so very supportive.......and with any luck I've planted a seed; perhaps given my SIL some hope....

Jamie, what medicine did they precribe that makes you tired? My Dr. is sending a prescription to the pharmacy for nausea (I'm almost 6 weeks out) ...I'll be driving 7 hours Sat & Sun....can't afford to be sleepy Sorry I couldn't add anything useful to the conversation.....good luck!
