How do you get a dr. to approve surgery????
AmberWaves replied to MariMari's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Are you going to a baratric doctor or just your pcp? -
Fred Phelps and Westboro Church
AmberWaves replied to SlimTarnishedDiva's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think that Fred Phelps and his cronies are proof that evil walks this earth. The "truth" they spew is completely nauseating and terrible. If there's a hell, they have a special place all ready for them. -
How do I feed my spouse?
AmberWaves replied to zippykat's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I told my husband that once I can eat "real" food him and the kids will be eating what I eat, I'm not cooking different meals, it's just not happening. I don't really see that being a bad thing, if I'm eating healthier, they should too :heh:. As far as different meal times go, we already deal with that because my hubby works until midnight, he still eats what I cook for the kids and me that night, he just heats it up, thank god for microwaves...lol. -
I only have one, I actually just got it about a month ago, it was a spontaneous thing...lol. I got a butterfly on the back of my neck. I want at least one more.

PROGRAM FEE?! You're kidding, right?
AmberWaves replied to k_podski's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My Doctor has a program fee too of $400. Just when I thought I was going to get out of this not paying anything out of pocket besides copays, I get hit with that. It sucks but I guess it's better than having to pay for it all out of pocket, I definately wouldn't be able to do that. Here's what my Program fee with pay for: Nutritional follow-up Tanita body Composition Analysis Therapeutic group interaction After Care and on-going Educational opportunites It also registers me, reserves my surgery date and guarantees a number of post surgical services. I don't have to have it until my pre-op appointment which is good too. I'm not even planning on having my surgery until January of 08. -

Did anyone happen to see the girl and her mother on Good Morning America this morning? Diane Sawyer was interviewing them. I feel sorry for that girl. I agree with everyone else, that girl is not emotionally ready for something like this, she is too worried about having fun and getting boyfriends. She didn't look that big, and she didn't look 13 years old, that's for sure. I'd be willing to bet it's the mother pushing her. The Mom was pretty much getting pounded by Diane Sawyer too, but I also didn't like a lot of the things she was asking too, it made me a little defensive myself...lol.

Whats the biggest weight loss myth you have ever heard?
AmberWaves replied to She Smiles's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've heard of just about everything already mentioned. I've done the grapefruit diet several times. You couldn't pay me to do the weinie diet though, gag! I finally told a good friend of mine about me wanting the lap-band, and her response was "Why don't you just diet and excersize like the rest of the world?" Gee, why didn't I think of that? Hell, I've been on a diet since I was 15 years practically! :phanvan I'm not saying anything else about it to her, I need support not cynicisim. -
I'm just really bummed right now! My actual consultation isn't even until the 20th, but I've gone to the seminar and hubby and I were ready for me to do it ASAP. But he got sick and had to use the rest of his vacation time for the rest of the year and some other financial stuff came up all of a sudden, so now I'm going to have to wait until the beginning of next year. I'm not even going to bother with the consultation I have for this month, I need to just cancel it. I just really had my mind set on getting it done as soon as I could. I've been researcing and reading and I know I want it. And now I have to wait nearly 6 months, it sucks and I feel like whining about it :ohwell:. Anyhoo, thanks for letting me vent!

I think I am going to go ahead and go to the consultation. But I know that no matter what it's going to be next year regardless of what they say. As far as I know my insurance doesn't require the supervised diet, my aunt had it done and her husband works mine and we have the same kind of policy. It may be different for me, I don't know for sure. So, I am going to get the consultation over with and get the insurance hassle out of the way. Wish me luck!
-
Hey! I'm from Shreveport too!
-
I know that my insurance will cover the procedure 100% but I don't know about the post stuff. I was just wondering if your insurance covers 100% too, do they also cover the fills?
-
I'm scared and I'm excited at the same time. I chickened out once already, before I even had the consultation.:rolleyes But I'm going through with it this time, at least get through the consultation and seminar before I decide it's for me or not for me. I go for my consultation July 31st. With Dr. George Merriman in Shreveport, LA.:whoo:

I have decided to not really tell anyone about it for a while. The only people that know that I'm thinking about it is my Husband of course and my Mother. As far as I'm concerned that's all that needs to know.

:)Hi, I just wanted to pop on and say HI and introduce myself. I have been lurking for a while now and decided to go ahead and sign up and get started. My name is Amber, I'm from Shreveport, LA. I haven't even had my consulation yet, but I finally called yesterday and got it going. They are verifying my insurance and they'll call me back soon (I hope!) if I don't get a call back by Tuesday I'm calling them back...lol. I called my insurance company yesterday to even see if they will pay for any of it, and get this, they pay 100%, I about cried when he told me that...lol. BUT, they do have to evaluate it and all that. I'm excited and nervous and scared all at the same time. I have so many worries and what if's going through my mind, what if it goes wrong, what if I don't do anything, what if I'm never the same? It's a big decision to make. I'm lucky to have a supportive husband standing behind me, he's not ecstatic about it, but he is going to be there for me no matter what I choose. He's going to go with my to my consulation and all that too. Who knows he might decide he wants it if I do good...lol. I'm scared of the surgery itself, that creeps me out, but I guess if I can handle a c-section like a pro, I can surely handle this, right? lol Anyways, I'm glad I found this board and I hope I can stay aboard and share my journey with ya'll!

I hope this isn't too personal of a question. But I was wondering if you are allowed to take an anti-depressant and get the lap-band? I haven't even had my consult yet, but I was wondering if me being on something like that will have an effect on my psyc evaluation?
-
Congratulations, that's fantastic!
-
Thanks ya'll! Good luck with your upcoming surgery! :gluck:
-
Thank you for the quick response! that makes me feel better! I was worried since I was on a mood altering med that that I would be an automatic no. Good to know! And I definately plan on sticking around, I'm so glad I found this board!

Thank you! I am trying to get my consulation with Dr. George Merriman at Surgical Specialists in Shreveport, LA.
