  1. I am a physical therapist assistant. Still pre-op hoping to submit to insurance next week!
  2. I currently have GERD and my surgeon mentioned at my consultation that sleeve to bypass is a possibility if I have an exacerbation of reflux after the sleeve. I have done some research and it seems like some people end up have relief eventually of their reflux after the sleeve. I am hoping that I won't need to revise the sleeve to bypass, but my surgeon was clear that I will have to go in knowing its a possibility. Good luck to you. I hope it all works out for you.
  3. My surgeon has an 8 week lifting restriction. I am a physical therapist assistant in a nursing facility so I do a lot of lifting. My company won't allow me to work with that restriction. Even if I only work with high level patients and have an aide to help me. It's a liability I guess.
  4. My surgeon has an 8 week lifting restriction after surgery. No lifting over 5lbs. I am a physical therapist assistant in a nursing facility, so I have to take off the whole 8 weeks. >_< I plan to ask my surgeon for a little leniency on that. I do have short term disability, but I will go nuts staying home for two months!

    Butterflies!

Exciting! I have my final appts next week, then hoping to submit to insurance shortly after. I am hoping to have surgery the end of September. :-)

    Greek yogurt equals yum!

I love Chobani, but it has so much sugar! Yoplait makes a 100 calorie greek yogurt that tastes great and only has 9g of sugar. The tropical fruit flavor is my fav!

    I'm a leaker

So sorry for what you are going through. I hope you heal fast. Good luck to you.

    IM GOING CRAZY

Your doctor hasn't mentioned protein?!? That is pretty much the number one thing that has been told to me. I am still pre op, but everyone says get your protein in! That and Water to stay hydrated. Did you go to a nutritionist pre op? They should have explained it all to you.
  9. I'm pretty confused about the liquid pre op diet anyway. My paperwork just say liquids for the 24 hrs prior to surgery. But I was asked to lose 5-10 lbs while continuing my pre op appts.
  10. Personally, I have to take 8 weeks off. My surgeon has an 8 week lifting restriction of nothing over 5 lbs. I am not allowed to work with a restriction like that, but likely have short term disability. I am expected to get quite bored, cuz I know I will be ready to go back way before that. The only silver lining is I will get through my liquid and purée stages and be moving to more "normal" foods by the time I am back to work. That will make things easier.

    Group NUT class

Well the group mutrition class was pretty much going over the information that I already got from the surgeon. I still have an individual session to schedule, so I am sure that will be even more helpful. The support group was great. There with a lot of post-op folk even one over 3 years out. They have a lot of knowledge and experience to share so that was great. I am required to go to two support groups, but I am going to try to go to more and continue to post op. It's nice to be able to be open about everything and share.
  12. Sitting and waiting for my first nutritionist appt which is a group class. I am pretty excited oddly enough. It makes me feel like I am really on the road toward surgery. I am also excited to learn and to meet others in my position. Right after, I am heading to a bariatric support group. This morning I had an appt with my enterologist and scheduled my endoscopy. Productive day for me toward my sleeve! :-)

    Always cold

Am I the only one looking forward to that? I am always hot. I wouldn't mind putting on a sweater once in awhile if I get cold. There is only so much you can take off when you get hot! Hah
  14. Mine is 36. I have high blood pressure and GERD, low back pain (bulging disc and disc degeneration). Not sure if they all count. My blood pressure is high, but not yet being medicated. I think my insurance only requires one comorbidity, so hopefully one of those will be enough. I have had a higher BMI in the past, but I don't think they look into your history, though I think they should.

    Ricotta Recipes?

I don't know any cooking recipes, but years ago I did the south beach diet and you can make very tasty snacks with ricotta. Just added some Splenda and cocoa powder or any flavor extract you like. Put a small dollop of cool whip and its super tasty!

    Need motivation

I have started using myfitnesspal again recently, but have never added friends. What does the friend feature do? Do you just share your diary? I am still pre-op, but trying to lose 5-10 pounds per my surgeon. Also hoping I can show my insurance company that I am serious about losing weight.

Look out world, here I come in a bikini

Good for you! You look great! I have never worn a bikini in my adult life! I don't ever expect to. Maybe in the privacy of my own back yard or something. Haha But who knows, I guess only time will tell.

    Syntrax Nectar so far...

I ordered a pack of samples on eBay and got one of each flavor. The chocolate truffle and double stuff cookie are both fantastic! I mixed them with soymilk. The cappuccino was tolerable, but not terrific. I am still pre-op and didn't feel that any of them have given lasting fullness as a meal replacement. I am hopeful that will change after surgery. I also have tried the lemon tea and apple ecstasy mixed with water and an evening "snack". The tea wasn't great, but the apple was ok. I def plan on buying a full size container of the chocolate truffle!
  19. My husband works at the Keswick facility in the finance dept. I have a lot of appts to do. Endo, psych, both NUT and also the support groups. I have most scheduled already.
  20. I also did a weight loss clinic that uses phentermine last year. I lost 40 lbs, but have since gained almost 20 back. The coordinator advised me not to use that with my submission since I gained after stopping the med.
  21. Weight watchers is included in the options for the 6 months weight loss classes. I do have to do two NUT appts as well. One group and one individual.
  22. I pretty much have to tell some people at work. Just my department though. I work in healthcare and can't work with lifting restrictions. My surgeon does 8 weeks of lifting restrictions, so I will be out 8 weeks. I don't want to lie, but 8 weeks will lead to questions. I already told my director because she is double checking the rules for restrictions for me. I am hoping we can work around it. But if it is a liability for the company, then they won't let me work. As for others in my life, of course my husband knows. I have told my sister and a couple friends. My immediate family and Close friends I plan to tell, but that's it. If extended family ask I won't lie. I am really happy about my decision and excited for my jounrney. I don't want to feel like it is something to be ashamed of. But I also don't want to have to defend myself for skeptics over and over. My body, my decision. And I know this is the right decision to finally be happy and healthy. :-)

    Any friends from Maryland?

I am in maryland, but Carroll county. I am going through John Hopkins Bayview.
  24. Yeah, that is partly my concern. I started weight watchers in January and lost some weight but then gained some, so I am actually up since my first weigh in. The surgeon advises me to lose 5-10 lbs before surgery and to do a food journal. I have lost 2 pounds, but haven't filled out the journal. I use my weight watchers app, so I amazing to see if I can print that out. Hopefully the 5-10 will be enough. My BMI is only 36 but I have high blood pressure, GERD, and back issues. The back issues aren't caused by my weight, but certainly worsened by it.
  25. I am very much pre-op, but I wish I could just have the surgery tomorrow! I have met with the surgeon and I am getting all my other appts set up. I am hoping to have the surgery in late August or early September. This evening my husband said, Hey, how about we go to the Chinese buffet one last time. I thought, sounds good! We really don't go to the buffet often at all, so this really would be the last time for me. Of course, at the buffet I ate "all I can eat." After we are we were waking around the mall and I just felt disgusting. I felt horribly fat, full, and gross. Makes me wonder why I ever do that to myself. It just makes me feel horrible about myself. I am supposed to lose 5-10 lbs before surgery. I even weighed in at weight watchers this morning and was down 1 lb, which I am sure I negated then some at dinner. I know I can do this. I feel that the sleeve will give me the physical restriction when my mental restriction fails me. Otherwise I will stay in my roller coaster of losing and gaining weight. I know that the sleeve is the right thing for me. I am ready to start my journey, just hope my insurance company feels the same way.
