It's just so much easier to tell the truth - plus, you might just really help someone who really needs to talk with someone who's been through it themselves.
Yesterday I met a patient who is really obese, and her hip is wearing out quickly and she's only 48 years old. So even though I just met her And I'm her doctor, I told her about my experience, and now she's going to see my surgeon.
I feel that I can use my experience to help people.
When you tell others, they are almost always supportive. I don't worry too much what people think about me as long as they keep it to themselves

When did it become a requirement to tell people all of your business? I think what we do with our own body is our own business. People have boob jobs all the time but I do not expect an explanation as to why their boobs look obviously perfect all of a sudden and I do not ask.

I take collagen daily to help with my skin.. so far 60 pounds down and im as tight as i was before.. Really good for hair as well. I've experienced no shedding either!

I had posted before in a separate topic, but will post here too! I love seeing other pictures and find them inspirational, so I will post mine too!

I would think you would be more along the lines of "Poor guy. Wish he could have the surgery I had. Wish he had a chance." but everyone is different.
Society has programmed us to think that eating better is about will power, even when we KNOW it's not. So now, after your sleeve you're eating right so it's easy to overlook the fact that you needed 80% of your stomach and 65% of your hunger hormone removed to do it.
You can also get caught up in the self-righteousness because you are extending some effort to eat right but that effort only comes after having major help. If you remember that it took the skills of surgeons, anesthesiologist, nutritionists, psychiatrists, and risking your life to have the "will power" you do now, you'll look on others with more grace and gratitude than judgment and self-righteousness.

You look fabulous!!!! Wonderful job!! You really are a great motivation to all of us awaiting our surgeries )

Great idea about the Iron skillet! Let me know if it works. I use to have very low iron, I chewed ice all the time! I received two iron skillets for Xmas and have been cooking with them continually, bc I love them, and my iron was perfect I thought maybe it was my diet never imaged it was my pans.

This is exactly how I feel too. I want to crawl in a hole until my surgery in 3 months.

I feel as though you are talking about ME!! I feel exactly the same way....I have let myself go and given up on everything! I use to have a great career and traveled all over. Then, I got married decided to settle down, had children and gave up! I became a stay at home mom and decided to focus on my family....and now I'm so ashamed of who I have become I won't go anywhere, not church, social functions, or anywhere i may run into people who use to know me. I won't even go out to dinner with my husband bc I feel like I would be such an embarrassment for him. My husband tells me all the time that I am just as beautiful as the day we met and everyone puts on baby weight. He's offered to go to the gym with me and walk around our neighborhood after he gets home from work....but I'm so ashamed for people to see me I tell myself that I am being overly vain but I honestly don't know what to call it.

I was also deciding between the two...I have done my research, and with my insurance covering o ly 1 per lifetime 100% I went with the one that I felt I would have most success with. Sleeving may 24

I love that comparison!! That is a lot of butter, you are doing great!!!

The horror stories are scary but motivational. The horror stories for me are the people who eat fried chicken "without the skin" two weeks after surgery and wonder why they aren't losing. I am going to work my first six months like a full time job.

Hey all,
Just wanted to share my progress. I am 1 month post op (technically 32 days) I had my surgery with Dr. Garcia at MiDoctor. As of today I have lost 22lbs (forever!) and feel great.
The only issues I still have are minor incision pain (from the biggest one), I can only sip little bits of plain Water (I think I gulp too much air with it and gives me a big air bubble in my chest) and a gurggly stomach every night when I lay in bed. But those are such MINOR things that don’t faze me at all.
I have no trouble getting all my Protein and liquid in daily, and am able to exercise for at least 30mins 6x a week. I got the greatest compliment the other day, I went and got my hair cut (felt like going short after losing this weight) and my stylist (who has known me for years) said I looked great and was "glowing" and wanted to know what I was doing (she thought I was preggo LOL). When I shared my sleeve experience she was super happy and excited to see more progress at my next appointment

Edit to add: would I do this again? Yup I would. It's not all been sunshine and flowers, but "nothing worth having comes easy" and this is worth having

Only 2 weeks out down 24 pounds . Every pound is equal to 4 sticks of butter. So there are 96 less sticks of butter on my body

About 8-1/2 months out and down 114.

Including pre-surgery and 10 weeks post op I am happily 63 lbs lighter. Best decision I ever made!
