What Was Your Starting Weight?
mamamareli replied to Mid West's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow--you look great! May I ask if you have had plastics? Your tummy looks really flat and I am impressed! I want that someday. To the OP: I started at 275 lbs 5 months ago. I am at 214 today. You are gonna do great! -
4 months out and falling off wagon
mamamareli posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm struggling. I've been eating things I shouldn't and until recently, couldn't. Bread used to be tough for me, but in past 2 weeks its fine (which is NOT a good thing). I've given in to too many snacks that aren't healthy. I'm exercising a lot more lately so I've been hungrier, but I need to reel in these bad habits. I'm about 60 lbs down, but things have definitely slowed down--probably due to my poor food choices. Help, encouragement, tips or even gentle reprimands welcome. -

Food not tasting good
mamamareli replied to karritous's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel like most food just didn't taste that good to me no matter what it was until I was at least 3 months out. Also, I got full so quickly and was uncomfortable, and I felt the same way as you--often wanted to go back to liquids. But with te, my taste buds improved and I was able to eat a little more/different food and enjoy it. The trick with that is as it gets easier and more enjoyable to eat, you have to be careful not to go overboard. It will get better--I remember feeling just like you did around that same time. I'm 4.5 months postoperative now, 59 down. -
4 months out and falling off wagon

I am the OP and I wish I could just close this thread now. I joined a group on FB called Drama-Free WLS so I could avoid this kind of thing. Thanks to those who have supported me and others in good times and in bad. I won't leave VST totally because there is a lot of good to be found here ( and I don't just mean people who will "tell me what I want to hear"-- I appreciate all kinds of feedback as long as it's respectful). However, I am leaving this thread. I encourage others to do the same--it's no longer productive for anyone. -
I can't find the panera secret menu!!! Help! I love that place!

Sounds like a great slider to have. Can be healthy, gives great satisfaction from chewing, etc. I wish that was my slider instead of crackers and chips (which I try to avoid as much as possible).

4 months out and falling off wagon
mamamareli replied to mamamareli's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for all the good advice and encouragement and advice. Today was a better day...not perfect, but I'm getting a handle on the carbs. And I need to stop striving for perfection anyway. That is a sure fire way to spend my days beating myself up. -
4 months out and falling off wagon
mamamareli replied to mamamareli's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think back to basics would be perfect. The carb cravings are what's killing me, and when I eat only food Protein, shakes and veggies I never get cravings. Stuff sneaks back in though. Time to kick carbs to the curb. And thanks for the support on the other posters comment. I agree, it wasn't particularly constructive or helpful! Good to know there are supportive folks still around. -

4 months out and falling off wagon
mamamareli replied to mamamareli's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did not post that looking for "permission" to eat junk. I was sharing my struggle and hoping for some encouragement to get back on track. And partly I was posting just to be accountable to myself by making it public. I was being honest. I really find that there is a lot of negativity and judgement on this forum. The best advice I've gotten so far was the suggestion about a therapist. The rest is just nasty and judgmental. And to the person who said "stop eating ****"... You are about 4 days out, right? I hope for your sake you don't struggle like I am at 4 months, but at 4 days food made me sick. That changes over time and it does get harder. I'm not making excuses for my choices. Just being real and looking for some help. -
Weight has slightly creeped up, whats up?
mamamareli replied to robocop12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started drinking this delicious iced protein coffee I make at home: 8 oz cold coffee (I let a cup sit and get cold from the pot my husband makes in the morning), 4 ounces of skim milk, and 1 scoop of pure protein frosty chocolate powder. I mix it up and pour it over ice and drink it for my breakfast all morning. I guess I could whirl it around in my vitamix blender if I felt like something "frappe-y". But I've really liked it just over ice, and I NEVER liked cold coffee drinks before. Give it a try!!! It's like 180 cals and also most 30 G protein! -
Regardless of the job, I was not permitted to lift more than 10 pounds for the first 6 weeks per the doctor. The concern is tearing the incisions, staples or causing a hernia( all bad stuff). Of you got back sooner than 6 weeks, please get your doctor to write a letter that says you can't lift right away.

No change in weight for 15 days at 3 months out
mamamareli posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi. I'm 3 months out (sleeved 5/8) and down 50 lbs since 4/24 (start of 2 wk preop diet) went from 275 to 225. But my weight hasn't changed for last 15 days. It bounces up or down a pound or two daily but basically averages at 225. Am I done losing??? I can't be, right? I know stalls happen, just scared maybe I'm only gonna lose 50 lbs with the sleeve. I hope not! Is this a common time for a stall (3 months out). Thanks for your input! -
I'm 42 but will probably be 43-44 before I'm ready for the plastics. Do you think it's worth it at that age? I mean, it's not like I'm in my 20s... Trying to decide (ps, I'm married and my husband says he is ok either way).

Hi. I'm 3 months post-op and I have lost a total of 50 lbs (including 13 during preop diet). For about a week or so, I have been stuck around 225..going up or down a pound or 2 each day. Is 3 months a common time for a stall? I had a 12 day stall at 2 weeks postoperative, then it broke and I continued losing. Just wondering if this is normal or if I need to adjust my eating. Live to hear some others experiences about when they had their stalls and what they did about them. Thanks.

Sleeved may 8, down 39 pounds since surgery, 52 since start of 2 week Preop diet.

Best Protein Bars in terms of taste, calories and protein?
mamamareli posted a topic in Food and Nutrition
Can you suggest some? I'm Just thinking about adding them for convenience and to get more Protein in. Thanks! -
I'm almost 3 months out. I get super sick on cashews. Bread, which I've only tried once or twice, makes me feel stuffed in a bad way with only a bite or 2. I haven't even bothered with rice or pasta. Only wish I had the sane problem with crackers. Those go down fine and they were one of my trigger foods before surgery. No crackers in my house!

And congrats, of course!!!

I moved into the 220s today, too!!! 228, down 47 pounds!

Wow! You look great!
