Surgery was May 22nd 2013 and I am down 59 pounds!!!!! Start weight was 218 current weight 159 and I'm 5 foot 6

I had to hear the same line of BS from my friends and family. "What about the drug cartels" "what about the sub standard care" "what happens if you have problems down there" etc. etc. Blah Blah Blah!!! My husband finally had to step in and shut them all up!!! Then to top it all off I came on here to tell people about my journey ( I thought that's what you did on here). Boy was I wrong!!!!! I immediately got jumped and accused of being paid by the company to post and that I was a coordinator!!! I won't name a names.. you know who you are and its obvious you have given yourself the title of "forum police" & that you have no life. Anyways enough of that rant. For me Mexico was GREAT, I had no other options. I had a great surgeon, I did my research and felt totally comfortable with MY DECISION. Is there good surgeons in the states? Of course there is!! There are also equally as good of surgeons outside the states!!!! Don't listen to the bashing, do what you feel in your heart is right!!! Also I wanted to add that my surgery was on May 22nd, 2013. I am down 59 pounds!!! Im 5ft 6 and start weight was 218 and current weight is 159!!!! Only about 15-20 from goal weight. I haven't had ANY problems and I am so happy I went to Mexico and had it done!!! Plus no red tape insurance BS of jumping through hoops to get this done!!! Good luck to everyone!!!!

I would like to add a #11 to your wonderful list. #11 ~ The last bite that you know will put you over the edge, will haunt you for at least 30 minutes after. (Took me a few times to learn that lesson!!!!) The worst was an egg roll!!!! Burping up pork & cabbage is not fun!!!

Well thats ODD, for over 2 years Dr.Lopez & Dr.Ortiz have been partners working as a team with A Lighter Me. I guess its funny how the bashing starts when someone decides they want to start their own company.. This is a reference for you... I went their in May and did months of research before I went. Dr.Ortiz was great and his bedside manners were impeccable... He has done plenty of surgeries ( over 600) He is more than qualified.. Also kinda funny how your user name was just created and you have only 3 post all questioning Dr.Ortiz & his credentials!!!! Sounds kinda like you are a LURKER!!!!!!!!!

I cut thru all the red tape BS and went to Mexico. I had a good time and I am down 56 pounds so far. Surgery was on May 22nd

Leslie... For me it is not only startling it is equally devastating. I didn't even realize the real difference until I put the 2 pics side by side. Its like you look at yourself every day in the mirror so you see some changes but not really. I still see a huge person in the mirror even though I have lost what I have. My mind has not yet caught up with my body.

Ok weight update!!! Lost another 3 since Friday!! I wish every weekend was that good!!! Total lost: 55 High weight: 218 Current weight: 163 Height: 5ft. 6" Surgery date: May 22,2013 Only 28 pounds from goal!!! 9 pounds from being considered normal weight range on BMI calculator!!!! Yahoo!!!

I'm in Virginia and was self pay. But I went to Mexico. I went with alighterme.com. With plane tickets & surgery cost it was still under $5000.

Yes they were.. Lol I finally had to break down and buy some new ones. I was in a tight 16 and now I'm in 10s & 12s.

Ok as of this morning.. Down 52 pounds!!!! Surgery was on May 22,2013. Bmi was 35.2 And now it is 26.8!!!! I am almost in the normal weight range!!!!! And very very happy!!!!!

First I want to say Wow this has been quite a journey so far!!!! Everything that had to be done to get where I am at today is beyond being worth it!!! Second I want to thank my partner in crime Karen for telling me about this surgery to begin with. I would have never known about it or gone to have it done without her!!! Thank you Buttercup!!! Third I want to thank my husband for supporting my decision even though he thought I didn't need to have it done. He even stood up and said something to my family when they were being turds about me having it done. Thank you Pookie!!! So to finish up here, this is what has happened so far & what is not so far away!! Surgery date: 5/22/2013 Height : 5ft. 6" Age: 39 Start weight : 218 Current weight : 171 Only 3 pounds away from hitting 2 goals. 1st: hitting the 50 pound mark 2nd: hitting 168 ( the weight I was when I met my husband) I also am only 36 pounds away from hitting my goal weight of 135!!!!! Thank you everyone for being there even when I was whining & complaining!!!! XOXO

You can get heating pads at Walmart,Kmart,target,walgreens,cvs. Just about any store like those should have it

I swear it gets better!!! I'm almost 3 months out and I feel great. Finally feeling normal. The heating pad was my friend for awhile. It seemed to help with the gas pains and other discomfort. Good luck to you!!!

I went to Mexico and had it done on May 22nd. I'm down 47 pounds!!!! It was $4650. My insurance doesn't cover any type of WLS & I couldn't afford to self pay in the states. Good luck to you!!!

I thought I would share this site that I found the other day. Its hard to tell sometimes what you actually look like and what you will look like at what weight. The site has a graph where you find your height & weight then you can click at where they meet at and you can see actual pictures of people that are your exact weight & height (not a misleading virtual model. Lol) I loved it and found it very helpful. I also wanted to know what do other people see when they look at me & helped me figure out where I want to be at. I hope it is helpful to others!!! My all time favorite.. " Can I get a Large Big Mac meal with a diet coke" "oh and do you guys still super size your fries?" I had a friend that was giving herself the shots and they would make her pass out. She would wake up on the floor with a needle in her thigh..... but swore by it.... Lol Lol she lost about 20 and like everyone else she put it back on. Then tells me I'm crazy for getting the surgery.. Lol Ok honey....
